Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: If sexual intercourse is the beginning of life, then why it is not always successful? We say that when the life, living entity, is there in the semina and it is put into the woman's womb, then body develops. Therefore, the beginning is the life. This is practical. And this life is the part and parcel of the supreme life. Therefore the beginning is God. Janmady asya yatah [SB 1.1.1]. Athato brahma jijnasa. So we have to establish this theory in this misguided world that... And besides that, why they cannot produce life from matter? What is the value of their statement? That they have not been able to do. Where is the proof that from matter life comes? You do it.Svarupa Damodara: Proof is under investigation. (laughter)
Prabhupada: Eh? That is nonsense. That is nonsense. This proof, that from life, life is coming, there is proof, so many proof. A man, animal, trees -- everything is coming from life. Up till now, nobody has seen that a man is born from a stone. Nobody has seen. Sometimes it is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. You know that? Vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Vrscika means scorpion, and tandula means rice. Sometimes we see some heaps of rice, the scorpion is coming. But that is not that the rice has given birth to the scorpion. You have not seen in your country? We have seen it. From the rice, heaps of rice, one scorpion, small scorpion, is coming. The fact is that the parent of the scorpion, they put their eggs within the rice and, being fermented, the scorpion comes out, not that from rice the scorpion is coming out. Therefore it is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Vrscika means scorpion, and tandula means rice. So "Life is coming from matter" -- this is called vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Life cannot come from matter. Besides that... Just like when there is life, living entity, the body grows, body changes or grows, as you say. But if the child is dead or come out dead, then the body does not grow. Then matter is growing on life. Why, a dead child born, it does not grow? What is the reason? What is your scientists' reason?
Svarupa Damodara: They will say that somehow the chemical reactions are not going right in the body, in the dead body.
Prabhupada: But you give the chemical. You rascal, you have got so many chemicals. Why don't you give it? What is the use of saying like that? Now the child is dead. Now you give some chemical injection and bring it into life. Why you cannot do that? If you cannot do that, then what is the nonsense, saying that some chemical is missing? If it is missing, you replace it. Why you cannot replace?
Svarupa Damodara: Because they haven't found out the chemical.
Prabhupada: Therefore you are rascal. You do not know what is that chemical, and still you say that some chemical is missing. This is going on, bluffing, cheating. This should be stopped. You do not know what is that chemical missing; still, you say, "Some chemical missing. Why do you say like that?"
Svarupa Damodara: Recently there were some journals that came out. The title is called "The Origin of Life." I will bring in school when we discuss... It started about from last year. And they have got an international association of scientists, and they discuss about the origin of life. And then... I wrote a letter to the editor of that journal, and they replied me that they're going to have another meeting, international meeting, in Japan in 1977. And there will be several meetings in Europe in the coming years. So their aim and object is to prove that life started from chemicals. It is a big group, all international scientists. So he asked me to become a member of a research group.
Prabhupada: So you become member and protest, "No," and prove. You just become the opposite.
Svarupa Damodara: I also asked whether they...
Prabhupada: Don't say, "Yes, it is all right." No, don't say. That will be your duty.
Svarupa Damodara: Right now we are planning to write that book all together, all the Godbrothers so that for the God we have some background and what we have learned from Prabhupada, and then we can...
Prabhupada: This kind of answer, that if I ask you that "You produce life from chemicals," and if you answer that "Yes, we shall do it in future," that is not very scientific answer. What do you think? Is that very scientific answer?
Madhava: No. But that's what they think is scientific.
Prabhupada: How it is scientific? Life is already there. Not that the life production is depending on your future scientific research. The life is already going there, hundreds and thousands and millions. You say that you do not know. Why you are claiming that "In future we shall know"? There is no need of your knowing, it is already going on. You do not know. That is your position. And still, you are declaring yourself as scientist. You are misleading. You can make a fool's paradise, that is another thing. But you do not know at the present moment, but the things are going on. Life is being produced without your knowledge. So you admit that you have no knowledge. And without having knowledge, you are declaring yourself as scientist -- how much cheating it is. It is not that it is depending on your future knowledge. It is already going on. Life is being produced. So if you think that in future, by chemical combination you will produce life, so that chemical composition is already there, going on. So you have to find out who is that scientist, not that chemical composition. Who is that scientist who is producing so many lives and chemicals? That is real intelligence.
Svarupa Damodara: That's why we title our book as "The Origin of Life in Matter." We do not talk simply "life" because...
Prabhupada: Origin of everything.
Svarupa Damodara: Yes. Matter, crude matter, origin of the chemicals, the, this carbon, hydrogen, these elements, these also, there is a brain behind it who made these chemicals.
Prabhupada: Yes. So we have to find out who is that brain, who is that scientist. That is real research. Athato brahma jijnasa. This is brahma-jijnasa. Jijnasa means enquiry, that "Who is that brain?" Because things are already going on. It is not depending on your so-called research. It is already going on nicely. So your business should be: "Who is that brain behind it?" That should be your research, not that how chemical combination can be... It is already being produced without your so-called scientific knowledge. It is already going on. So as you are taxing your brain that "How this chemical combination produces life?" So that brain is already there. Otherwise how life is coming? What do you think? So why you are trying to find out the chemicals? You find out the brain. As you are taxing your brain to find out the chemicals, the original brain has already done it. Now you find out who is that person who has got such a nice brain.
Svarupa Damodara: That is the real research.
Prabhupada: That is real research. You point out this, not that, your chemical combination. It is already done. And people are already taking advantage like that. If there is some discovery by some scientist, he praises the man who has discovered this.
Rupanuga: He names the man, experiment for the man.
Prabhupada: Yes. The man is important, who has done it. The person is important. So am I right or wrong? So find out the person, who is that person.
Tamala Krsna: Suppose they say that it just came about by chance.
Prabhupada: That is kick on your face with boots. Immediately: boom! (laughter) That's all. That is the answer, only answer. Rascaldom answer, "chance." The only answer is to kick his face with the boot, that's all, as soon as he says chance.
Svarupa Damodara: So Richard Prabhu is going to write a topic, a chapter, that mathematical proof of the idea that chance comes into play, that...
Prabhupada: Your mathematics is also imperfect because you are imperfect. You are imperfect. There is nothing chance. There must be cause. You do not know the cause. You cannot find out. You are taking a loophole, chance. Then why you are making so many scientific research? Chance, let it happen, everything, by chance. Then what is the use of your scientific research? Let everything happen by chance. There is no chance.
Svarupa Damodara: Another answer that we come across when we talk with these people...
Prabhupada: There is nowadays the chance theory.
Svarupa Damodara: No, chance is not so much popular, but the answer that "chemicals were supplied by nature," that's a very...
Prabhupada: No, what is nature? That you cannot explain.
Svarupa Damodara: That is the answer, theirs. When we ask the scientists...
Prabhupada: But what is this nature?
Svarupa Damodara: Yes, the nature is not understood.
Prabhupada: You see? That means you are rascal. You have not understood. You have no knowledge. As soon as you cannot explain, you prove your foolishness, that's all. That is not scientific answer, "chance," "nature." What is the nature? Who is conducting nature? How the nature is going on so nicely?
Rupanuga: You said before they were acting as teachers, but actually they are still students.
Prabhupada: No, they are cheater. They are cheater, not teacher, cheater. They have no full knowledge; still, they have become teacher. You cannot become teacher unless you have got full knowledge. That is cheater.
Tamala Krsna: Srila Prabhupada, suppose that they acknowledge the fact that they do not know, but they challenge, "How do you know what you believe is right?"
Prabhupada: Because I have approached the Supreme, the supreme brain, Krsna. He is the perfect person in knowledge. Aisvaryasya, jnana. Vedaham samatitani [Bg. 7.26]. He knows everything. He is conducting nature. Mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram [Bg. 9.10]. Yasyajnaya bhramati sambhrta-kalacakro. Janmady asya yatah [SB 1.1.1]. So we know from the perfect. Therefore my knowledge is perfect. I am not perfect; that's a fact. But my knowledge is perfect. Just like I am not an electrician. But the electrician has told me that "You push this button. There will be light." So I am doing that. What is the use of becoming electrician? I want light, and the electrician told me, "Just push this button." I am doing that, and light is there. That's all. You cannot say, "You are not a electrician. How you can say the light...?" And I know from the perfect person, and it is acting. This is our position. It doesn't require that I will have to become electrician. The electrician has told that "You push this button," and there is light. That's all. Does it require that I will have to become a electrician to conduct this light?
Rupanuga: No, it simply requires that one listen and take instructions.
Prabhupada: That's all. Therefore sruti, Vedas. Tad-vijnanartham sa gurum eva abhi... [MU 1.2.12]. Hear from the guru and do it. That's all.
guru-mukha-padma-vakya, cittete koriya aikya
Now, what is that song? Who knows this song, sri-guru-carana-padma **?
Nitai:
guru-mukha-padma-vakya, cittete koriya aikya,
ar na koriho mane asa
Prabhupada: Koriho mane asa. Do not try to research anything. That is final.
ar na koriho mane asa.
If the guru is perfect, your knowledge is perfect. And how guru becomes perfect? He has heard from his guru. That's all. Evam parampara-praptam [Bg. 4.2]. Krsna is the original guru. Imam vivasvate yogam proktavan aham avyayam, vivasvan manave prahu [Bg. 4.1]. This is parampara system. You hear... Just like Lord Brahma heard from Krsna, tene brahma hrda adi-kavaye. He gave the knowledge to Brahma. Brahma distributed the knowledge. Therefore Vedic knowledge is perfect. The Vedic knowledge comes from the Supreme Person. Vedaham. Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyam vedanta-vid vedanta-krt caham [Bg. 15.15]. So Vedic knowledge is coming from Krsna, and it is received by Brahma, and then Narada receives. Then Vyasadeva receives. Then he gives us all these Vedic literature. We understand. That's all. It is not by so-called rascal's research. Research means they are rascal. That's all.
Rupanuga: Krsna says, "Take it from Me."
Prabhupada: Yes. And if he wants to make research, that means he is a rascal number one. If you want to make research, then search out what is the original brain, not the process. Process is already going on. What is the use of your research, nonsense? Suppose by chemical combination, if you produce one life... You will never be able. But still, if you think that you will be able or you become able, then what is credit to you? Without your help there, millions and millions of life are being manufactured, without your help. Then what is your credit?
Tamala Krsna: Imitating a barking dog.
Prabhupada: That's it. So millions of dogs are barking, and one man has learned how to bark like dog, and people will go to see him by purchasing ticket. This is their foolishness. Suppose if you somehow or other become able to produce life from chemical, then what is your credit? It is like barking dog. Millions of dog are barking. Now you have learned how to bark like dog. So what is your credit? It may be for the rascal fools that you are scientist, but we are not so rascal.
Rupanuga: They will clap. The fools will clap.
Prabhupada: Yes. Yes. "How nice barking. Oh, how he has learned to bark." Just see. We are not so fools. Krsna yei bhaje sei bado catura: "The first-class intelligent man is he who is Krsna conscious." Sei bado catura. All rascals. Krsna said, na mam duskrtinah mudhah. "Oh? Also very scientist?" mayayapahrta-jnana: "They have no knowledge, all rascals." Krsna says. mayayapahrta-jnana, that he is not thinking, that "Suppose I can produce life by chemical combination, then what is my credit? The life is already there. It is going on very nicely." What do you think, Balavanta? If the things are going on nicely, then where is my credit? Either you say, "by chance," or "by God's arrangement," "by nature," but things are going on nicely. So it is same thing, to learn how to bark, that's all. Barking is going on, but he wants to take credit by learning how to bark. That's all.
Madhava: They try to imitate God.
Prabhupada: That's all. That he cannot, and that is his foolishness. Therefore we say that you are cheating. Things are already there, going on. What is your credit?
Rupanuga: The scientists are trying to be the hero. Krsna is the hero. He has done everything first, and the scientist wants to be the hero.
Prabhupada: So you have to present like this, that "What is the credit? Suppose by chemical composition you can manufacture one ant. That is not possible. Be assured you will never be able. That we are assured. But even if you are able, then what is your credit? The credit is the man has learned how to bark like a dog. That's all, this much credit."
Svarupa Damodara: No, if they are able to make life, then they are going to say that there's no God.
Prabhupada: Yes, but first of all you produce. Then say. Why you are anticipating that you will be able to...?
Rupanuga: Still, who is the bigger God? If I make one ant, and there's already many, many ants made by a bigger God than me...
Tamala Krsna: Yes, so He is God. Whoever has made the most, He should be God.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Rupanuga: So we must recognize Krsna as the big scientist.
Prabhupada: That is... This foolishness is going on throughout the whole world, and scientist and people are after the so-called scientist, Darwin. So we want to stop this misleading. That is our duty.
Svarupa Damodara: Actually, the way they study the origin of life is nothing but the origin of molecules. It's not actually of life, the way they are studying. So there is a misunderstanding what is life and what is matter.
Prabhupada: No, no, whatever they are studying, this rascal cannot make life even with combination of those original molecules. Where is that proof? Our challenge is that because they cannot do it, therefore they are rascals. And that vrscika tandula nyaya, that a scorpion is coming out of rice, that's it.
Svarupa Damodara: Their claim depends on the...
Prabhupada: There are life manifestation, according to Vedic literature, that some of the life, they are coming from eggs, some of the life, they are coming from perspiration, some of the lives come from a seed, and some of the life comes from embryo. This is all stated there. Sveda-ja, udbi-ja, anda-ja, jarayu-ja. They already there. Jarayu means embryo, and sveda means perspiration. Life is everywhere. When they take little advantage, they come out, manifest. You will find even on the pavement, footpath, as soon as there is crack, some grass is coming out. So life is everywhere, it is struggling, and as soon as there is favorable circumstances, they come in a form. That's it. Life is not created, na jayate. Read Bhagavad-gita. Na jayate: "Life is never created." It is existing eternally. Therefore it is said, na jayate. So unfortunate rascals, they do not take advantage of Bhagavad-gita and making research. So we want to stop this rascaldom. They are trying to create life, and it is stated in the Bhagavad..., na jayate: "It is never created." It is already there. Simply it is coming out, being manifest by different bodies, 8,400,000 forms. That I was explaining last night. According to his desire. The life is already there, and according to his desire, he is coming out in different forms. That is going on. This is a false theory, that chemical can create life. It is nonsense. Life is never created, life is already there. God is already there, and the part and particles, molecules, life, was already there. Na jayate mriyate va kadacit. This word is used, kadacit, "at any time." So we have got perfect knowledge. Why should we say, "Yes," with these rascals? We have got perfect knowledge.
Rupanuga: They say matter can never be created or destroyed, but they do not know that life cannot be created or destroyed.
Prabhupada: Nothing cannot be created. Life also cannot be created. They are already there. But matter is manifest, not manifest. Just like this body is manifest because the life is there. Now, this body will be destroyed, but I will exist. Tatha dehantara-praptih [Bg. 2.13]. I will accept another body, and it will grow. Therefore the matter grows on the basis of life, not that from matter, life comes. This is all rascaldom. So now, by the grace of... We have got scientists. Let them protest. Save the people from this ignorance. Mudha. That is our mission. Give them chance. They have got human body. Let them become Krsna conscious and give up all this nonsense thing. Hitva anyatha rupam svarupena avasthitih. Mukti, this is mukti. They are mad after something wrong. So they should be saved, and they should give up this so-called materialism and come to service to the Krsna, his eternal job. Then that is mukti. He is liberated.
Rupanuga: So this book actually, is directed to scientifically-minded people because in this age people are getting educated. They are getting scientific-minded.
Prabhupada: But that creating problem. The psychiatrists came to see me, where? Caracas. So I said -- he admitted, both the psychiatrists -- that "You are not treating the real person who is diseased." I gave him the example, that "You have got good car, but the driver is a madman, and he is creating disaster, and you psychiatrists are going to cure it. You never say that 'The driver is bad. Change him or just educate him. Then there will be no disaster.' But you are taking your fees and giving some repairing in the car. But you do not know what is the original cause of disaster. It is not chance. Due to the bad driver." So our propaganda is to give the bad driver nice knowledge so that he can drive the car to Vaikuntha. That is our position. And these rascals, the materialists, they are simply painting the body of the car. And the driver? "Let him starve."
Rupanuga: They are like the cheating mechanics.
Prabhupada: That's all. All these medical men, psychiatrists, they are simply painting the body of the car. That's all. What is that?
Vira-laksmana: Srila Prabhupada, the scientists, they've reported in one journal of theirs that by taking some chemicals of methane, ammonia and carbon and injecting it with electricity, that equation or that formula equates them to an energy that is called amino acid in due course of time. That is, they say, the building blocks of life, of protein.
Prabhupada: So why do they not do that?
Vira-laksmana: They've made an experiment...
Prabhupada: That means they are not in knowledge. That I am speaking, the barking dog. First of all make experiment, produce life. Then come and say. Otherwise don't bark like a dog, imitation. Simply big, big words. Produce. Our theory is that... In the sastra it is said harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalam, kalau nasty eva nas... [Cc. Adi 17.21]. That practical proof we are giving, that these Europeans, Americans, they are simply chanting Hare Krsna and how they are coming out, this practical proof. They did not know five or six years ago what is Krsna, what is Krsna's name. But we are taking the conclusion of the sastra: in this age, if one chants Hare Krsna, he becomes spiritualized. That is becoming, practically. It is not theory. How so many devotees are in this Atlanta, here? Anywhere, wherever we have started, how they have become devotee? Caitanya Mahaprabhu said that "You follow this formula and you will become God conscious." That is being practically proved. It is not theory. So that is Vedic knowledge. You adopt Vedic knowledge and get the result, not that "This ammonia, this chemical, that chemical, but I cannot do anything." The rascal said, "That I cannot say." You...
Svarupa Damodara: Yes.
Prabhupada: He asked him, that rascal chemist, that "If I give you the chemicals, can you manufacture life?" That time he said, "No, that I cannot say." Why do you say like that? In the beginning, in New York, that store front, the Satsvarupa is with..., and Hayagriva and... And you chant simply. You were also there. So this chanting is proving efficient. That is Vedic knowledge. It is not theory. Our, this Krsna consciousness movement is not theory or mental speculation. It is a fact. So therefore it is said,
guru-mukha-padma-vakya, cittete koriya aikya,
ar na koriho mane asa **
So whatever little success I have got, it is only for this reason. My Guru Maharaja said that "You go and preach whatever you learned in English language." That's all. So I came here with this faith, that "My Guru Maharaja said. I must be successful." I did not show any jugglery to you, gold-making jugglery. Where is my gold? I came with forty rupees first. (chuckles) So these are Vedic instruction, guru-mukha-padma-vakya **, and:
sri-guru-carane rati, ei se uttama-gati
That is real progress. So this is Vedic instruction. We have to follow the Vedic injunction. Then you will be successful. Not these rascals' theory. It is useless.
Svarupa Damodara: The standard of knowledge has to be there, but they do not know that there is a standard. The scientists, these researchers working in different fields, not only scientists, any field of knowledge, there must be a standard.
Prabhupada: The standard is given by... That is standard, as that Vedic language, Vedic instruction. Just like Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave the standard, harer nama: [Cc. Adi 17.21] "Chant Hare Krsna." Immediately successful. That is standard. Otherwise how you will find standard? Therefore it is said, guru-mukha-pad... That is standard. What you hear from a bona fide guru, that is standard. Krsna says, man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg. 18.65]. Anyone who will do this standard, he will become devotee. And as soon as he become devotee, he is fit for going back to home, back to Godhead. Yes, this is standard. What Krsna says? Find out this verse. Man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg. 18.65]. Whatever Krsna says, that is standard. All nonsense. Ar na koriho mane asa. Don't accept anything. This is standard. What is that?
Paramahamsa:
man-mana bhava mad-bhakto
mad-yaji mam namaskuru
mam evaisyasi satyam te
pratijane priyo 'si me
 [Bg. 18.65]
"Always think of Me and become My devotee. Worship Me and offer..." (end)

Religious or Wretched

Hari-sauri: Now they are putting out the same kind of propaganda about Mars that formerly they were putting out about the moon -- that there may be life -- so that they can use that as an excuse to go. I just read a little bit where they say that due to information sent back by the last spaceship that they sent to Mars, now they think that there's more water vapor in the atmosphere than they at first thought. So that means that there's a good possibility that there may be some bacterial life on Mars. So (laughs) they don't... And then they state that the temperature ranges from-130 to +40 degrees farenheit. So that means that there could be life there in a bacterial form.Prabhupada: And why there is no life in moon planet? Some scientists say the temperature is two hundred degrees less than the zero.
Hari-sauri: Yes, at night when they said, because there's no atmosphere.
Prabhupada: But why these rascals say it is full of dust, and how from the dust so much light is coming, illuminating the whole universe? What is their logic? They have already brought the dust. That dust does not illuminate.
Hari-sauri: Well, they say just like when the sunlight hits the earth, then the earth appears very bright from outer space. It appears very illuminating.
Prabhupada: Who says?
Hari-sauri: This is the scientists' excuse. They showed some pictures taken from outer space that shows the earth glowing very brightly, like the moon. So they say in the same way when the...
Prabhupada: Why the glow of the surface of the earth does not illuminate? It does not come between illumination?
Hari-sauri: Just like when the sun is here everything is bright.
Prabhupada: That's all right, when the sun is there.
Pusta Krsna: The moon is actually illuminating.
Prabhupada: Why it does not illuminate?
Hari-sauri: They only say it reflects the sunlight.
Prabhupada: Kick their face with shoes. That is the only reward for them. And foolish persons accepting. Just like sun is illuminating. It doesn't require illumination from any other planet. Similarly, if earth is also illuminating, why does it require moonlight in darkness? This common sense does not come into the brain of these rascals who believe that?
Hari-sauri: They put their scientific reasoning to explain the different things.
Prabhupada: What is their scientific reasoning? Talking like fools and rascals? If something is illuminating, why extra illumination required to illuminate.
Pusta Krsna: Their theory is that there's a dark side of the moon that we've never seen.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Pusta Krsna: Their theory is that there's a dark..., that actually the moon is reflecting the sun's light. So there's a dark side of the moon.
Prabhupada: So far the world is, where is the dark side and the bright side? If you compare like that, then so far this globe is concerned, which one is dark side, which one is bright side?
Hari-sauri: No, they say the earth is spinning on its own axis, so all parts of the earth at one time or another receive sunlight.
Prabhupada: The moon does not do that?
Hari-sauri: The moon does not revolve on its own axis.
Prabhupada: Another foolishness.
Pusta Krsna: Just to fit their speculation.
Prabhupada: Just see. Simply speculation and misleading people.
Hari-sauri: There's no basis for it, there's no truth to it at all. (laughs)
Prabhupada: And you people believed that? I'm surprised. (laughter) You are also fools and rascals.
Hari-sauri: This is what they teach in all the schools.
Pusta Krsna: They have little models, Srila Prabhupada, made out of plastic.
Prabhupada: Ah, they are... Let them, we take them as rascals, that's all. Mudha.
Hari-sauri: That other argument that you use about how the moon rays give life to the vegetables... So how is it that there's no life on the moon? If the rays from the moon give life, then how is it there's no life where the rays come from?
Prabhupada: They have never gone to moon. (laughs) All bogus. And this Mars expedition will be a failure. Let them spend millions of dollars. I told about moon planet ten years ago. It is childish, simply a waste of money and energy. I told this. Now it has proved.
Hari-sauri: There's no more interest in the moon at all.
Prabhupada: No? Kirtanananda said "It is inhabitable." Ten years ago I said there's no use going there. It is childish, waste of money. But who hears about us? We know moon planet is inhabited by high-class living entities. (laughs) (sarcastically:) And they will allow these rascals to go by their machine.
Hari-sauri: When they originally started sending sputniks to the moon, they couldn't even land them properly. They would crash, they said that they were crash-landing spaceships into the moon's surface.
Prabhupada: Crashed?
Hari-sauri: Crash-landing. The spaceship was supposed to just smash into the surface of the moon, like that.
Prabhupada: They have never gone. Simply propaganda. Even they have gone, what is the result? Simply with big report that it is inhabitable. (Prabhupada is eating something:) What is this fiber? Finding? What are other things are there in the... Hmm? What is this? (Hari-sauri laughs) Hmm? Do they add anything more? Something reddish there?
Hari-sauri: Sometimes there's a few bugs in it. (laughs) There's some..., it's probably some strands from the mango, fiber from the mango.
Prabhupada: Do they add mango?
Hari-sauri: Yes, sometimes they put different fruits in it.
Pradyumna: Little oranges in there. You can put orange?
Hari-sauri: Strawberry and mango and this and that. They make it with some kind of ice cream machine.
Prabhupada: Hmm? This is not from machine?
Hari-sauri: No, this is from machine.
Pradyumna: You first made ice cream in New York, Srila Prabhupada? Someone told me that in 26 Second Avenue, did you make..., you made them ice cream when it was very hot?
Prabhupada: Hot?
Pradyumna: It was hot, no, the weather was hot, so you made.
Prabhupada: No, you can make ice cream in this, what is called, refrigerator. You can make.
Hari-sauri: Just make thick cream and put it in the fridge.
Pusta Krsna: "Ice" cream.
Prabhupada: (Prabhupada speaks some gibberish). Big, big words.
Pradyumna: They put everything in language. Then everyone is fooled. No one knows...
Hari-sauri: Speak as many big words as possible and don't make any point at all, and then everybody will proclaim.
Prabhupada: So gradually they'll go up to Saturn?
Pusta Krsna: If the money holds out. Actually, they've already sent some exploring rocketships way out to Saturn years ago.
Hari-sauri: Takes several years to reach.
Pusta Krsna: It's such a bluff.
Hari-sauri: How long does it take them to go to Mars?
Pradyumna: Mars and Venus also, they say.
Hari-sauri: Venus is the other one they concentrate... They think that Venus, there's a good chance there may be some life there.
Pradyumna: Venus is covered by clouds. So no one can see what is there. There's clouds all around the planet. Heavy, what do they call, so that no one can see. So they sent a rocket inside or something to go through the clouds to see what is there. Russians also tried. Fermament. In the Bible, they say that on earth there was also..., above the earth there were all clouds at one time according to the Bible. And then at that time men used to live very, very long, and then the clouds went away at some point. They call it a firmament. So the same thing is on Venus. No one can see what the planet is like, no one has ever known. That is also a heavenly, we say also... That is Sukracarya's place?
Prabhupada: Not Sukracarya's, just Sukra.
Pradyumna: Just Sukra.
Prabhupada: May be Sukracarya's place. What benefit they will have? Nothing. This is science. Without any aim, without any objective.
Hari-sauri: What they're doing is entirely pointless. There's no proper reason for any of it. Because they aren't improving their actual living standards by it. They are... It's just like a jnani, he thinks advancement of knowledge, just to simply acquire any amount of knowledge.
Prabhupada: Kevala-bodha-labdhaye. They are described: Klisyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye. Simply works hard simply to know things. No benefit. These rascals are like that. Kevala-bodha-labdhaye.
Hari-sauri: That's the futility of the university system now. They are going and they're accumulating knowledge which is worthless for living. It has no practical value, so all the youth are becoming very frustrated.
Prabhupada: Any sane man will be frustrated. Why you are spending money and going there? Kevala-bodha-labdhaya, klisyanti kevala, bhaktim.... Klisyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye tesam asau klesala eva sisyate nanyad yatha sthula-tusavaghatinam. Just like the husk... The outer portion of rice? If there is rice, you husk, beat it, rice will come. The rice is not there, simply husk, what is the use of this beating? It is like that. Rice will not come, simply they are trying to beat it. So the result is they become tired, that's all. They only result is they'll become tired. Klesala eva sisyate, that's all. The result of hard labor is tiresome. So they'll get that only, that's all. They are satisfied, "Now we are tiresome, let us sleep." What you have gotten? "Dust." That's all. This is the philosophy. Bhaktim, what is that verse?
Pradyumna: Srama eva hi kevalam [SB 1.2.8]?
Prabhupada: Huh? That's not it. Klesala, klesala.
Pradyumna: Klesadikataras, klesa?
Prabhupada: Klisyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye tesam asau klesala eva sisyate nanyad yatha sthula-tusavaghatinam.
Hari-sauri: It's from the Bhagavatam?
Prabhupada: Yes, it is mentioned in the Caitanya-caritamrta. Any process you accept, rejecting devotional service, the result will be that there is no profit. You simply labor for nothing, as much as to beat the husk, you'll never get the rice, you will simply be tiresome, that's all. Just like so-called religion. There is no faith in God. There is no need of God, and "religion." This is nonsense. Religion means without God? This is going on. God, you can accept anyone, Ramakrishna Mission. Any rascal...He was a fool, illiterate rascal, Ramakrishna. He became God. No standard, and they are propagating Ramakrishna Mission. As we are preaching Krsna is God, they are preaching Ramakrishna. And who's accepting them? For the last hundred years, they are preaching. So who has become a devotee of Ramakrishna?
Pusta Krsna: It's absurd to even think about becoming a devotee of Ramakrishna.
Prabhupada: You have got Caitanya-caritamrta?
Pradyumna: I think it is Tenth Canto. Sreyah srutim bhaktim? I've been making a list of all the verses that you quote most.
Prabhupada: That's nice.
Pradyumna:
sreyah srutim bhaktim udasya te vibho
klisyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye
tesam asau klesala eva sisyate
nanyad yatha sthula-tusavaghatinam
 [SB 10.14.4]
Prabhupada: There is note?
Pradyumna: Bhaktim vina jnanam tu naiva siddhyed ity aha (indistinct) sreyah srutim iti; sreyasam abhyudayapavarga-laksananam srtih saranam, yasyah sarasa iva nirjharanam, tam te tava bhaktim udasya tyaktva sreyasam marga-bhutam iti va; tesam klesalah klesa evavasisyate. Ayam bhavan (indistinct) yatha alpapramanam dhanyam parityajya antah (indistinct) kanahinam sthula-dhanyabhasams tusaneva (indistinct) vaghnanti, tesam na kincit phalam, evam bhaktim tucchi-krtya ye kevala-bodhaya prayatante, tesam apiti.
Prabhupada: Yes. Simply tiresome, that's all. Religion, no God. There are so many religions.
Hari-sauri: Soon as they forget the actual religion then there are so many concoctions.
Prabhupada: "This is our religion." What is religion? "No God." What is religion? Then, those who are godless, they have got religion. Atheism has got religion. Then why bring this religion? What is the meaning of religion? Just see.
Pradyumna: One time we went to a church in Boston to speak. They had only a pulpit for the preacher, and behind, no altar, no crucifix, nothing, just big map of outer space with planets on the wall. Not even any Christian church, but no cross, nothing. Only universe. Universalist Church, it's called. The Universalists.
Prabhupada: That's nice, but give some information of the universe.
Hari-sauri: Says, "Religion: 1. monastic condition, being a monk or a nun, enter into a monastic order; 2. practice of sacred rites; 3. one of the prevalent systems of faith and worship, i.e. Christian, Muhammadan, etc.; 4. human recognition of superhuman controlling power and especially of a personal God entitled to obedience, effect of such recognition on conduct and mental attitude."
Prabhupada: This is religion. Personal conception of God.
Hari-sauri: And then "5. action that one is bound to do."
Prabhupada: Yes. Everything is there. Any one of them you take. That's good idea, but special conception of personal God, huh? What is that?
Hari-sauri: "Human recognition of superhuman controlling power and especially of a personal God entitled to obedience."
Prabhupada: That's all, clear. What are the other items?
Hari-sauri: Then, "the effect of such recognition on conduct and mental attitude." And then "action that one is bound to do."
Prabhupada: One is bound to do. Dharmena hina pasubhih samana. If he does not do, then he's animal. It must be done. There is no question of optional. If you are human being, you must be religious, you must recognize the supreme controller. Otherwise, you are animal. What is the other interpretations? Beginning one?
Hari-sauri: "Monastic condition, being a monk or a nun."
Prabhupada: Just like every religion has got some condition, monastic, is it not?
Hari-sauri: Yes, every religion has a system of priests.
Prabhupada: (Coughs severely for a few minutes) Monastic condition?
Hari-sauri: "Practice of sacred rites."
Prabhupada: So, without reference to God, what is the meaning of sacred rites? Everything is reference that accepting the supreme controller. That is the real meaning. At least, Christian religion accepts God, Muhammadan religion accepts God, or Hindu religion accepts God. So without God, how it can be religion? If there is no understanding of God, the conclusion comes that there is no religion. Fictitious. "We trust in God," but do not know what is God. This is going on. So we have to fight against all this nonsense. Nonsense scientists, nonsense religionists. What do you think? It is not easy-going, sleeping business. We have to fight with so many demons. Otherwise, kava dava adakanam (?), my Guru Maharaja used to say. Beg some rice and bring it and cook it and eat and sleep.
Pradyumna: Kava daka?
Prabhupada: Kava dava adakanam. As all our Godbrothers are doing. They have got a little temple, and a few devotees go and beg rice and cook it and eat and sleep, that's all.
Pusta Krsna: Like being dead almost.
Prabhupada: No fighting spirit. Thakura dekhiya (indistinct). Just make a Deity, show. Our Tirtha Maharaja is doing that. His whole idea was, that "I have now captured the birthplace of Caitanya Mahaprabhu by high-court favor. Now I have got everything. People will come and they'll pay something, and that will be my income for my family." As the caste gosvamis do in Navadvipa and other... A means of livelihood. He has no devotion. He wanted as a means of income. Like the Vrndavana gosvamis, Navadvipa gosvamis do. Little devotion, automatically, there is. They are, after all, worshiping the Deity. But their purpose is different. Just like we have established Radha-Vrndavanacandra not that people will come and pay something. Who will come here, in this foreign country or in this secluded place? So our aim is to make the devotees real devotees. Not for earning money. When we establish a center in a place like this, where is the idea of getting money? (laughs) Who will come here? One, it is a foreign country, nobody knows what is Krsna. And one has to come with so great difficulty, on the mountain. And who is coming to pay for it? After spending so much money, they will come here to pay? Our process is that wherever we stay, we worship Krsna. As far as possible. That we are doing. Not for earning money but spending money. Now Tirtha Maharaja is seeing that without getting Caitanya Mahaprabhu's birthsite, Swami Maharaja, he is attracting lakhs of people. Without the favor of high-court, he is attracting. That is his envy. This year, you were not present?
Pusta Krsna: At Mayapura?
Prabhupada: Oh, you were present?
Pusta Krsna: Oh, yes. There was always...
Hari-sauri: That leaflet that he put out that we saw, he put one leaflet advertising that...
Prabhupada: No, no. Apart from that leaflet... Let him do whatever nonsense... But actually, on the birthday of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, there was the greatest crowd in our temple.
Pusta Krsna: Oh, yes, there was a constant... It was just always packed.
Pradyumna: Every year, before, last year, year before, year before, Caitanya Math, only, not...
Prabhupada: Nobody goes.
Pradyumna: No, only their Math people, and some people they invite from Calcutta. But the regular people all come in to our place.
Prabhupada: Sometimes we went to Madhava Maharaja's temple?
Hari-sauri: In Vrndavana.
Prabhupada: In Vrndavana. Who was there?
Pusta Krsna: Empty. Completely no one.
Hari-sauri: They didn't even have any of their own men living there.
Pusta Krsna: They had to unlock the Deity.
Prabhupada: And that is on the prominent roadside. And our temple is off. Still, so many people are coming. Neither there were inhabitants nor their outsider, visitors. Gate was closed, we had to open and then enter. And he constructed temple at least for the last twenty years.
Pusta Krsna: They have no vision of expanding, except maybe their...
Prabhupada: They make this money-making machine. They do not know the money will automatically come you are sincere. You haven't got to make it a machine. Money Krsna will send. But they have no faith in Krsna. They have faith in their own ability. "Yes, we shall earn money in this way, by showing the Deity." They don't recognize Krsna's everything. They think "By high-court judgement, if we capture this place, then money will come."
Hari-sauri: Practically speaking, they're finished. They're on their last legs.
Prabhupada: Similarly, other svamis and yogis they are finding that this Bhaktivedanta Svami alone is preaching all over the... "We, combined, we could not do anything."
Pradyumna: They are all wondering what your secret is. They always wonder, they cannot understand.
Prabhupada: All the yogis, svamis are there. How it is possible? The Ramakrishna Mission, they are working here for the last hundred years. What they have done? If they had actually preached something, so so many American boys and gentlemen are coming to our temple, we cannot give them place. We have to find out some other, and who is going to the Ramakrishna temple?
Pradyumna: They have empty house.
Prabhupada: If actually Vivekananda preached something, out of inquisitiveness they would have gone there. So "We have heard so much about Ramakrishna and Vivekananda. Let us see what is there." Nobody goes. They do not know even the name. And we are already advertised all over the world, Hare Krsna Movement. At least, everyone knows. Who knows Ramakrishna, Vivekananda?
sreyah srutim bhaktim udasya te vibho
klisyanti ye kevala-bodha-labdhaye
tesam asau klesala eva sisyate
nanyad yatha sthula-tusavaghatinam
 [SB 10.14.4]
This is Brahma-stotra?
Pradyumna: Yes, Fourteenth Adhyaya. From brahmovaca, brahma-stuti.
Prabhupada: Just stick to this principle, then you will be successful. Bhakti sreyah srutim. That is the real welfare. Sreyah srutim means "expands auspicity." (apparently talking about a picture) And they want to become one with God. And here is not one, but God is so lower that He carries the shoe of His devotee. Have they got any conception like this? (laughs)
Hari-sauri: They are always talking about...
Prabhupada: There is a verse sruti mahapure sruti mahapure. You know this?
Pradyumna: Sruti apare?
Prabhupada: Sruti mahapure. (indistinct) yasya linde param brahma. "Let others worship the srutis and others smrtis, all these Vedic literature, and others Mahabharata for liberation. But I shall worship Nanda Maharaja, because in his courtyard the Param Brahma is loitering. I shall worship Nanda Maharaja. He's so powerful that he's made the Param Brahman come here and carry his shoes." Sruti mahapure (indistinct) yasya linde param brahma.
Pusta Krsna: That was by a Muslim who became Vaisnava? Once you quoted that, I think that verse, in London.
Prabhupada: That is another similar verse. Yes, you quoted me. And there is another verse by Bilvamangala, in Krsna-karnamrta. The Muslim, he said "I was searching after the Param Brahma, and now I see here He is playing with the gopis." What they will speculate? Everything is there in Srimad-Bhagavatam. Where this picture is given? (Prabhupada is being massaged)
Pradyumna: Which book is it in?
Pusta Krsna: It was on the cover of one Back to Godhead magazine.
Hari-sauri: But it's in one of the books.
Pradyumna: Lord Caitanya did the same thing. He did the same thing, and it was compared Krsna also had done.
Prabhupada: If there is no such acceptance, where is religion?
Hari-sauri: It just becomes a show. Religion nowadays has degenerated so that people more or less accept it just as some moral code now, because there's no knowledge of God.
Prabhupada: So where is that morality?
Hari-sauri: (laughs) There's no morality either.
Prabhupada: While hunting, drinking, meat-eating, is that morality?
Hari-sauri: No. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: They are holding some meeting? Today we have got very good article in the Sunday Chronicle. Everyone is reporting about us very nice, and still there are some envious persons, they are creating doubts about us.Commissioner: They cannot create any doubts, Swamiji, as long as you are establishing the equality of man in the eyes of God, only one God. That is being done, I think.
Prabhupada: Yes, we have no discrimination.
Commissioner: Accha. No discrimination. And that is the... I don't think anybody called...
Prabhupada: Samah sarvesu bhutesu.
brahma-bhutah prasannatma
na socati na kanksati
samah sarvesu bhutesu
mad-bhaktim labhate param
 [Bg. 18.54]
Unless one is samah sarvesu bhutesu he cannot reach the platform of devotional...
Commissioner: And how can there be anything greater service to humanity than...
Prabhupada: Here is the first thing, that brahma-bhutah, Brahman realization. Then prasannatma. He is no more under the material tribulation or anxiety. We are in anxiety on account of our material conception of life. Prahlada Maharaja said sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat [SB 7.5.5]. Because we have accepted this asat body, material body, which will not exist, and we are concentrating our attention only on this body, therefore we are always anxious. Asad-grahat. Sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat. On account of asat. So this is going on all over the world. Simply anxiety. They have created United Nations, but where is the United Nation? The people go there with anxiety, that's all. And come back again with anxiety. Because their asad-grahat remains. The Indian is thinking, "I am Indian, this body." And the American is thinking, "I am American," and the Pakistani is thinking, "I am Pakistani." So asad-graha is there. So how the anxiety will go away? But they do not know this. There is no education. They want to keep him... "Feel always that you are Indian," "Feel always that you are American." "You feel always you are Hindu," "Feel always you are Muslim." Asad-graha. How there can be no anxiety? Sada samudvigna-dhiyam asad-grahat. So asato ma sad gamaya. This is Vedic injunction. Don't remain on the asat platform. Come to the sat platform. Asato ma sad gamaya. Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya. Don't remain ignorant. But unfortunately people are so absorbed in asat things they do not know what is sat. They cannot go to the sat platform. They cannot go to the light platform. And they are struggling like that. No solution. Punah punas carvita-carvananam [SB 7.5.30]. The government may change, but the men are the same, in darkness. What improvement will there be simply by changing government? The persons who are governing, they are in the darkness. So how, by change of government, there will be change of situation? I said in, where? That the United Nations is an assembly of dogs barking. Where did I say it? It was published in the paper. I said that if you keep them as dogs, and if you ask some dogs, "My dear dogs, please do not bark. Live peacefully," is it possible? The dog will bark. That is their business. So we are not enlightening them what is actually we are. We are keeping on this bodily conception. That is the dog's conception. And how there will be peace? There cannot be. Simply by agreement, by treaty, there can be any peaceful? No. Just like children. They agree, "Yes, we shall not fight." Next moment they'll fight. And again they will make agreement. This is going on.
Commissioner: What could we do, the devotees staying(?) here in Andhra Pradesh state?
Prabhupada: You become guided by Bhagavad-gita.
Commissioner: (Hindi) If you think that everything could run then ahobalam(?) is there. They are now (indistinct). But if you are going. Tomorrow they have to (indistinct).
Prabhupada: You have counted? Not yet. Counting? No.
Hari-sauri: I've got it listed. 182. 1-8-2. All their temples should be reorganized on the... People should come there for being educated. Temple means it is an educational center.
Commissioner: Educational center.
Prabhupada: Oh, yes. Brahmanas means they are teachers. Pathana-pathana-yajana-yajana-dana-pratigrahah. So every temple should be educational center, and the brahmanas should be engaged. They should be properly educated and they should teach others also. In this way, temple means education in spiritual life. And actually spiritual life is life. This material life, the bodily conception of life, is dead life. Apranasyeva dehasya mandanam loka-ranjanam. This nice shirt you have changed because there is life. When there is no life, who is going to change dress? The body is there, but why you are not interested in changing the dress? Better interest... The sooner the body is thrown away or burned, better. So similarly... [break] There is a proverb that a vulture goes very high, but his ambition is where is a dead body. As soon as he finds a dead body, (growling sound) immediately. And we see, "Oh, how high he has gone." So what is the going up so high if your aim is to find out a dead body? And actually, these aeronautics, they went to very high, suppose they went to moon. But after going there they find, "Where is Moscow? Where is this?" The same vulture business. So this Krsna consciousness movement is the only hope to give relief to the human society. So everyone should cooperate with this movement. Unfortunately, there are so many envious persons, they are writing against us, talking against us. They should be envious. Because they want to exploit, keeping the people in ignorance.
sarpah krurah khalah krurah
sarpat kruratarah khalah
mantrausadhi-vasah sarpah
khalah kena nivaryate
So our preaching is very difficult task, still we're trying our best.
Commissioner: That's what I find, Swamiji. My work is also very difficult. Work is very difficult. We have about 30,000 temples in this state, properties that have temples, the (indistinct) of temples, interest in temples...
Prabhupada: No, it can be... If government takes our advice, we can give them advice how to organize, how to utilize.
Commissioner: Definitely. We want a scheme. Definitely. Fortunately, it is the land of this Krsna and Godavari. It is a sacred land. Tungabhadra, Krsna, Godavari. We are finding everywhere there has been some kind of ups and downs. It has been studied.
Prabhupada: It is the government's duty to settle up. But they must know how to settle up. If they do not know then they cannot do anything.
Commissioner: No, we want guidance.
Prabhupada: That guidance we can give you. That guidance we can give. Because we have taken the brahmana's position. The brahmana's duty is to give guidance to the ksatriya. Government means ksatriya. So if the ksatriyas take guidance from the brahmana and they try to execute, then everything will be all right. So we can give you sufficient guidance provided you accept it. (laughter)
Commissioner: The end is common. And we have found yesterday some of your sisyas had come. They're so happy. They said, "This is what the requirement is," and we accept him as a sisya.
Prabhupada: Temple means a center, educational center, education. Give them prasada. Bring. Hare Krsna.
Commissioner: And we have centers through Tirupati all over the country in our important centers, we have got some centers.
Prabhupada: Now the thing is that, say, for Tirupati, it has got biggest income. But I understand that this income is being engaged for industrial purpose. But that, how to utilize in industrial purpose, that you do not know.
Commissioner: But just one thing, let me explain Swamiji. We are not directly giving to industry. What we are doing is we are depositing in a fixed deposit in certain banks, getting the highest interest. That interest we are utilizing for Sanskrit studies, Vedic studies, etc. We are not directly giving. What we are doing is this: we invest in your bank, but bank shall invest in a productive industrial purpose. We put a condition. We are not directly putting in the industry, and that's a wrong propaganda that's being done. What we are doing is the interest that comes, the funds that are there, they are safely there in a bank. The interest that comes we utilize only for religious purposes, like, as I said, the dharma-pracara, veda-pracara, all that we are doing.
Prabhupada: So, I have taken this veda-pracara. Why not come and join with us?
Commissioner: Yes, definitely.
Prabhupada: All over the world they're accepting. Now these foreigners, they're accepting. I have done it single-handed. So if the government comes forward and join with me, we can do at least ten times work.
Commissioner: How, kindly give us sir... I don't know if I'm taking your very valuable time. We are very sincere about it. We are having Himalayan opposition for some of our schemes. But when I studied yesterday, because before I came to you I thought I shouldn't just come for wasting your valuable time. Therefore I have found that your aims are what we have been thinking of for the society. The veda-pracara, we were thinking that we have also started on a small scale, not on your scale. And if it is that we were thinking in these terms-translation of these Vedas...
Prabhupada: First of all, first of all, you must know what is Veda. Vedas, vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyah [Bg. 15.15]. Vedic knowledge means to understand Krsna. So Krsna is explaining Himself, to understand Him. That is Bhagavad-gita. So if you accept the principles of Bhagavad-gita, the whole Vedas are accepted. Because purpose of Veda is to understand Krsna. And that Krsna is explaining Himself -- "I'm like this." So where is the difficulty to understand Vedas?
Commissioner: May I explain to you what we have, we are doing, Swamiji? In the religious we have now taken statistics of our veda-panditas. There are three hundred of them. Now they have said they don't want to come out of their villages. We have said wherever they are, in their own village, for one or two hours, they meet, chant the Veda in the temple or the village.
Prabhupada: They'll not do that.
Commissioner: They are now willing to.
Prabhupada: There may be some percentage. If you do not accept the recognized process... Just like Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Caitanya Mahaprabhu, He was a great scholar. So He was chanting and dancing. So some of the sannyasis, Mayavadi sannyasis in Benares... (to servant:) You keep it there, they will take. There was a meeting, and the question was that "You are a sannyasi..." This question was put to Caitanya Mahaprabhu, that "You have taken sannyasa, you do not read Vedanta, and you are mixing with the sentimental persons, chanting and dancing. What is this?" This was the question. So He explained that, "Yes, My Guru Maharaja found Me a great rascal." Guru more murkha dekhi' karila sasana [Cc. Adi 7.71]. You understand Bengali? No. "My Guru Maharaja saw Me a rascal number one. Therefore he has chastised Me." What is that? Guru more murkha dekhi' karila sasana. "He has said that 'You are rascal, you cannot read Vedas and Vedanta. You are rascal. You chant Hare Krsna.' So I'm doing that."
Commissioner: Chanting, yes. Yes.
Prabhupada: So He's Krsna Himself. He's neither rascal nor fool. But He represented the rascal and fools that who will read Vedanta. Everyone is after this Veda. No student will come to study Vedanta. That is not possible in this age. You see? Maybe somebody interested, but generally they'll not come. Even if one is born in the brahmana family, he is no more interested.
Commissioner: May I submit, Swamiji, therefore what we did was, these three hundred people, if they chant, three hundred rupees for a dana-patha,(?) and two hundred rupees for him and a hundred rupees a...
Prabhupada: No, no, brahmana, why he will take money?
Commissioner: It is, no, we are giving it as daksina.
Prabhupada: No, daksina. But they are chanting in exchange of daksina. Because you are giving daksina, therefore they are chanting. And you stop that daksina, nobody will come.
Commissioner: True. You are correct. (laughs) That we have told them. If they teach their own children, hundred rupees for him for teaching, forty rupees for a child who learns.
Prabhupada: That they will do, but when the hundred rupees will not be sufficient, they'll give up.
Commissioner: One thing is that at least one child is learning in each and every...
Prabhupada: No, I mean to say that is not the process. If you want to satisfy with money, and in exchange of money he wants to chant Vedas, that is not...
Commissioner: No, Swamiji, some of them didn't care either for the money.
Prabhupada: Some of them maybe.
Commissioner: And they were starving, and they were starving.
Prabhupada: But generally, generally, that Caitanya Mahaprabhu's process should be taken. As Caitanya Mahaprabhu represented Himself that "I am fool." He is not fool. He's representing the fools of this age. So if we take that process, it will be successful. It will be successful.
Commissioner: That also, (indistinct) that bhajana and every.
Prabhupada: Yes, let them come. Let them come in the temple and there may be sumptuously offering of bhoga. Let them chant and take prasada. In this chanting illiterate, literate, rascal, fool, lower, higher, everyone can join. And give them prasada. See the effect.
Commissioner: Yes. That is also part of the, that is the other part of it. We are having dhana-prasthanam,(?) bhajana group, hari-katha group...
Prabhupada: But kalau sudra-sambhavah. The Vedas are meant for the brahmanas. So there is no brahmana practically. Neither there is training of brahmanas. Brahmana means he must speak truth. Satya sama dama titik -- and if you ask nowadays anybody that "You don't speak lie, you speak truth," he will laugh, that "What a rascal this is. By speaking truth one can live nowadays?" he will say. The first business is satyam. And if you ask him, "You speak truth," he will laugh. So where is brahmana? A brahmana is so simple that if you ask him about his secrecy, he'll tell you, "Yes, this is..." Satyam. Just like Jabali? Upanisad, he was asked, he went to Gautama Muni. Satyaka, yes, for initiation. Gautama Muni asked him, "Who is your father?" He said, "I do not know." "Go to your mother." He went to the mother. Mother said, "Oh, my dear son, I do not know." He was a prostitute's son. So he came to Gautama Muni and said, "Sir, my mother does not know, I do not know." So he said, "You are a brahmana. Because you don't keep any secrecy you are brahmana. I'll initiate." So it is not the birth, but the quality-truthful. But these qualities will come when you make him a devotee. So this process should be taken, how to make him a devotee. And the easiest process of making devotee is let them come to the temple, chant Hare Krsna mantra and take prasada. Then gradually they'll become... I began this movement on this. Very simple. And they have come. I never asked them to study Vedas in the beginning. What they'll read Veda? What do they know? But this process has become successful. So if you take this process it will be very quickly successful. And then literature. I never gave them literature. I have got about eighty books. Not that in the beginning I asked them, "Come here and read books." No. "Chant Hare Krsna and take prasada." Now they are interested in reading books, in publishing them, in selling them and everything. They are doing everything. So if you take the authorized program it will be successful. Otherwise, it will not be successful.
Commissioner: Well... And how long the Swamiji will be here? I'll take up the program. We will. As a matter of fact, somehow...
Prabhupada: I am always at your service.
Commissioner: Somehow, the coincides, our program, we have taken a small scale. Every temple has been asked to have this bhajana, hari-katha, then this puja...
Prabhupada: There must be some competent man to induce. Everything will be planned.
Commissioner: Therefore our training has to be started perhaps here. Some of those people who could go. These are all the ideas of course. If you could give an impetus, that's exactly what I wanted to... Take advice from you. Now if a center is established. What we lack very badly are those people who can competently take up this work in the whole state. The temples are there, the funds are there, organization is there. Men who are, as you say, the real brahmana, who could go and preach this, we are lacking. We are lacking. And he has to be trained. And the right training you are giving. Anywhere I see your men are...
Prabhupada: So we can give men.
Commissioner: Yes. And a training institute has to be started. Very badly we need it. My department also. Having any number of people. It is suffering because we don't have the proper people with that objective to govern...
Prabhupada: Because the culture is lost. Culture is lost.
Commissioner: Because we take the local people as trust board members. We appoint officers.
Prabhupada: Therefore I said if you keep them dogs, what is the use of United Nations? You cannot make the dogs united. That is not possible.
Commissioner: Yes. Therefore recently in Tirupati we have been thinking of starting a training institute along with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
Prabhupada: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, they have no idea.
Commissioner: They have no idea. Ramakrishna Mission we asked.
Prabhupada: They have no idea.
Commissioner: They don't have people. They said, "We don't have men even for our own missions."
Prabhupada: No. How long they can go on with false pretense? And these people, they have no idea what is spiritual life. It is a profession for collecting money. So if you... We do not like to criticize. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kanayalal Munshi, he did not believe there is life after death or he did not believe there is Krsna, fact. This is the founder. So what is their knowledge? And Vivekananda made Narayana daridra. So this is their manufacturing ideas. They have no sound knowledge, vacant. They are misled themselves, and they will mislead others. This is going on. But if you say that, "You are the only man?" I can say, "Yes, I am the only man" at the present moment. You believe or not believe. And why? Because I am following Krsna's instructions. That's all. I do not touch anything. That is our process. What Krsna has said, we say, that's all. Therefore there is little success. I don't manufacture. I have no extraordinary power or I cannot show magic or jugglery of words. But I do sincerely to present what Krsna has said. So if you do that, you'll be successful. If you do not do that, you'll never be successful. If you manufacture idea... We must know that we are defective. Our manufacturing of idea all defective. We must take standard instructions from Krsna. Then everything... So if you stick to this point, then we can guide you. And you'll be successful. Guidance is Krsna. Our duty is to present Krsna. Just like somebody has sent you money order, 1,000 rupees. I am a peon. I am not giving you the money. The money is sent by somebody. But I do not open it, adulterate it -- that is my honesty. That is my honesty. So the instruction is Krsna's. If I honestly deliver the same message to you then you are benefited, I am benefited. And as soon as I pilfer it, then it is useless. I am useless and you don't get profits, success. So if you decide to take Krsna's instruction rightly, then we can give you very good guidance. Everywhere you'll be successful. Everything is there.
Commissioner: Any plans to have training and...
Prabhupada: Anything. It must be sanctioned by the instruction of Bhagavad-gita. Then it will be successful.
Commissioner: For success the people, the local language, so that they may...
Prabhupada: Language difficulty is there. That we have to solve.
Commissioner: Therefore training has to be done here and in other places, and a center has to be there. You could plan one of those with...
Prabhupada: Yes, plan is there. Just like we are doing. And we can give you in detail. Provided you accept this principle that we shall abide by the instruction of Bhagavad-gita.
Commissioner: Who questions the Gita and the Upanisads?
Prabhupada: It is very difficult. Very difficult. You see. Big, big scholars, big, big politicians, they are supposed to be preaching Bhagavad-gita. They take their photograph in front of Bhagavad-gita, but without Krsna. They'll never talk of Krsna any time. Banish Krsna. Even Gandhi has said, "My imagination of Krsna is different." Perhaps you have read in his Gita-Press edition.(?) Krsna is speaking... Radhakrishnan said when Krsna says man-mana bhava mad-bhaktah, he says "It is not to the Krsna person." Krsna says man-mana bhava mad bhaktah, and he says it is not to the Krsna person. Just see how misleading it is. And if a person like Dr. Radhakrishnan, Gandhi, misleads, then who will hear me? What I am? There is one big person in Bombay, he said that he has set aside ten lakhs of rupees for Gita-pracara. But when I proposed Gita-pracara means Krsna pracara, so he said, "No, I want Gita without Krsna." Everyone...
Commissioner: Then who is the Gita-pracara? Gita-pracara.
Prabhupada: They are doing that. You can see from this big, big person. Gandhi used to say that he believes in Gita and Gita gives him solace in difficult times and so on, so on. But has he ever preached about Krsna? Tilok has ever preached about Krsna? Radhakrishnan has ever preached Krsna? Nobody. Their policy is take Sita and kill Rama. Ravana's policy. Take away Sita. Take away Gita and kill Krsna. So Ravana's policy will never be successful. Ravana's policy means he will be destroyed. You cannot do any harm to Rama, but he will be destroyed. This policy, that take Sita and kill Rama, means he will destroy himself. So this is going on. Take Gita and kill Krsna. This will destroy the whole thing. This Ravana's policy. And Hanuman's policy is somehow or other rescue Sita and get her seated by the side of Rama. Therefore he's worshiped, Vajrangaji. That is the difference between Ravana's policy. Sita is the via media. But one is trying to bring back Sita and seat her by the side of Rama, and another is trying to take away Sita and kill Rama. This wrong policy will not take. We have to accept the instruction of Gita and accept Krsna as the Supreme Lord. Then everything will be all right. Prasada? So thank you very much for your coming. So, kindly if you will agree to take the instruction of Gita, I am always at your service. I'll give you such guidance, our men, our everything. But you have to decide this. You cannot take up this policy, take Gita and banish Krsna. That is wanted.(?) (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: So this is documentary. And the Europeans and..., they are not fools and rascals that they are interested in purchasing other religious book, not their Bible. You see? So it has got very great potency. So under the circumstances, we should now make combined effort that it can be pushed on more organizedly. I am doing now alone with the help of these... But no Indians are coming. This is the difficulty.Guest (2): I think, with all due respect, many Indians are trying to do things in their own religious sect or in their own districts.
Prabhupada: Nobody is doing.
Guest (2): Well, I mean, if you had been to Bharatpur recently, about 5,200 beds were there for netra-yajna, for the eyes operation.
Prabhupada: I know that. That I know. But I am speaking of this culture.
Guest (2): Culture, yes.
Guest (1): That is a difficulty one is giving.(?)
Guest (2): Because in observing karma-phela, somebody's taking care of. In bhakti...
Prabhupada: But one thing is that we are preaching Bhagavad-gita as it is. In Bhagavad-gita there is no such statement that you take care of the eyes of the people. There is no such statement. That is your manufactured idea. But we are preaching Bhagavad-gita as it is. That is the difference. Our preaching is that instead of giving relief to the eyes, give him relief in such a way he hasn't got to accept any more this body with eyes. You cannot make a solution of the problem. Somebody is taking care of the eyes, somebody's taking of the finger, somebody of the hair, somebody of another, genital, and so on, so on. This will not solve the problem. The problem is, as it is said in the Bhagavad..., janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi-duhkha-dosanudarsanam [Bg. 13.9]. This is intelligence. As soon as you take birth, then you'll have eyes, you'll have eye trouble, vyadhi. Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi. If you accept janma-mrtyu, then between janma-mrtyu there is vyadhi and jara. You have to accept. You may give some relief, but you have to accept. So that is not solution. The solution is how to stop this janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi. That is solution. That is bigger solution. So we are giving that thing -- there will be no more eyes' trouble. The main disease... Suppose one man is diseased, so sometimes he is feeling headache, sometimes eye-ache, sometimes finger-ache, and you are applying some medicine for headache. That is not the solution. The solution is that this man is suffering from this disease. How to cure it? So Bhagavad-gita is meant for that purpose. Tyaktva deham punar janma naiti [Bg. 4.9]. And as soon as you accept body, klesada... Na sadhu manye yato atmano 'yam asann api klesada asa dehah [SB 5.5.4]. Asann api. This body is not permanent. So because the body is not permanent, the disease also not permanent. So Krsna's advice is tams titiksasva bharata. Matra-sparsas tu kaunteya sitosna-sukha-duhkha-dah [Bg. 2.14]. You make the solution -- that is the greatest solution -- that how to stop janma-mrtyu. But that they do not know, that this can be stopped. They are simply busy with their temporary problems. And they are taking it as very great. What is great? Suppose if you have got a boil here. Simply by pinprick. (makes blowing sound) Will it cure? There must be surgical operation. Get out the pus. So this movement is for that purpose. It is not for this janma-mrtyu, I mean, temporary jara-vyadhi. That is all right, but Krsna says -- if we take Krsna's advice, Bhagavad-gita -- that is not problem. If there is little trouble, tams titiksasva bharata. Real problem is that janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi [Bg. 13.9]. Try to stop it. That is intelligence. Tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti [Bg. 4.9]. That is culture; that is education, not to be very much bothered with the temporary. That is not very intelligence. Give them this culture, Krsna consciousness. So we have got this body. So long you have got this body, you may give relief to the eyes, but another trouble will come. It is not guarantee that by giving them relief to the eyes he gets relief from all kinds of disease. That is go... That will go, going on, janma-mrtyu..., er, matra-sparsas tu kaunteya [Bg. 2.14]. So give relief, and the real relief, how to stop... That is our Vedic civilization, that you should not become father, you should not become mother, if you cannot give protection to your children from the cycle of birth and death. Pita na sa syaj janani na sa syat na mocayed yah samupeta-mrtyum. This is real problem. Real culture is that "This child has come to me, so we shall train him in such a way that no more accepting body." Because as soon as we accept body.... It is very difficult subject matter, of course, to understand, but Bhagavad-gita teaches yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati [Bg. 4.7]. When people forget this problem, janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi, Krsna personally comes to teach them that "This is your problem."
Guest (3) (Indian man): Guruji, just now the problem is of starvation.
Prabhupada: Well, starvation... Suppose you are diseased, and if your father does not give you to eat, that is your blessing. Guest (1): And what about...? He will die or...? Or this will go away?
Prabhupada: Why you are complaining? Suppose your father, he gives you everything. But when you are diseased, if he said, "My dear son you cannot eat everything," is that starvation?
Guest (3): But...
Prabhupada: First of all give me answer this. Is that starvation?
Guest (3): No...
Prabhupada: That is cure. This is cure. In the Vedas it is said, nityo nityanam cetanas cetanam eko yo bahunam vidadhati kaman. God is giving food to the cats and dogs. Nobody is starving. If you are starving, that is your blessing.
Guest (3): But then, Guruji, suppose you see somebody...
Prabhupada: We do not suppose. We get the reference to the sastra. That is our disease. We don't manufacture. We don't manufacture anything. Our point of view is if there is starvation, then we take it: mercy of Krsna. Tat te nukampam su-samiksamano bhunjana evatma-krtam vipakam [SB 10.14.8]. When we are put into starvation, we take it: blessings of God. We don't complain, that "I did something wrong or there is something wrong, so God has put me into this position. It is His blessing." This is our view.
Guest (2): Guruji, my father mentioned about this very beautiful picture just above your head. He was saying it is one of best pictures he has seen of Krsna and Arjuna. And you indicated that there may be a card or something.
Giriraja: Yes, I have that.
Guest (2): Oh. Very good.
Guest (1): You want big picture? I can give you one.
Prabhupada: No, you have got cards printed?
Guest (1): I have got lot of the big ones. I think big ones you don't have.
Giriraja: He's asking for a card.
Guest (2): I have been asked that he wants to keep it on paper.
Prabhupada: I have given that picture in my Bhagavad-gita in so many languages.
Giriraja: Here we have it in all different languages. This is Chinese.
Guest (2): That I wouldn't be able to read. (laughter)
Giriraja: We're just showing that we are placing the Bhagavad-gita in all languages. This is German. Oh, yes, yes. You're German.
Guest (2): I'm a little bit of that.
Prabhupada: So this starvation point, we take it as blessing. People generally question that "How God is unfavorable to somebody and favorable to...?" That is foolishness. God is good, but that we do not know. Because we are less intelligent, we think that "One man is in starvation; therefore God is not good." That is our fault. We are not good. We do not understand God. But a Vaisnava says, "Oh, it is blessing." And if he takes like that, then the result is mukti-pade sa daya-bhak. His mukti is guaranteed. In any circumstances, if somebody takes God as good, then his mukti is guaranteed. And if he blames God -- "Oh, He has put me into starvation" -- then he has to suffer. This is the common argument sometimes we meet, "Oh, why God has made somebody so rich and somebody some poor? He is unjust." That is foolishness. God cannot be... He's just, always just. That is God. So unless we have got that firm conviction, then we cannot become devotee.
Guest (1): That is why Indians are not joining then. Because they are not joining because of that; they cannot understand what is the reality. Because we try to comment upon the God's actions, "Somebody's poor, somebody's rich, somebody's this."
Prabhupada: But actually you don't believe in God. That is the disease, godlessness. If we believe in God...
Guest (2): If we fully believe... But there are a large portion of...
Prabhupada: Yes. Yes. They don't believe in Him. They think that "God is my servant, or order-supplier" -- "God, why you have not done this. If you don't do this, I don't want You." This is our position.
Guest (2): (Hindi)
Prabhupada: Yes. That means "God is my servant order-supplier." Actually... This is European mentality. One, my Godbrother, German Godbrother, that Sadananda, he told me, in the last war, when the war was going on, generally women were left. All men were in the battlefield, somebody's husband, somebody's father, somebody's son. So they went to the church. They were going church. Even Churchill also recommended "Go to the church. Pray." Duhkha se saba hari bhaje sukha se bhaje kaya. So, but nobody returned. So all of them became atheist: "Oh, it is useless to go to church. I prayed so much for my husband coming back, but he did not come. Useless." So this is the position. "I ordered God that 'My husband has gone to the war. Let him come back unharmed.' And God did not bring him back. He did not carry my order. I don't want this God." This is going on. When the war was declared, there was no consultation with God. (laughter) Rascal. That time there was no consultation. And when the husband is going to die, he goes to God. This is our position.
Guest (2): When war was to be declared...
Prabhupada: Ha. There was no consul...
Guest (2): They had found a final solution to the Jewish problem.
Prabhupada: These politicians, they're everything. And when the war is very acute and the husband is going to die, then God is required. When he does sinful activities, God is never consulted, but when he suffers, then God's consulted. "And if You don't supply my order, then I don't want You." Means he remains: "Don't want You." That's all.
Guest (2): Swamiji, may I ask one question which I had much discussion with your sisya here. Brahman, the sort of, what we in Hindu philosophy consider as the ultimate Godhead...
Prabhupada: No.
Guest (2): Brahman you consider Krsna. But He is, of course... He was incarnate. He was one of the avataras.
Prabhupada: That is your opinion. That is not...
Guest (2): That is our point which I want to clarify.
Prabhupada: You have to take the sastra, authority. Brahmano aham pratistha. Read Bhagavad-gita. You read Bhagavad-gita? Now, did you not read this?
Guest (2): Well, that's what I want to clarify.
Prabhupada: Find out this.
Trivikrama: 14.27.
Prabhupada: Read that.
Guest (2): I am... This, even on the Eighth Chapter you'll find.
Prabhupada: Yes. Brahmano 'ham pratistha. Read. Just here.
Giriraja:
brahmano hi pratisthaham
amrtasyavyayasya ca
sasvatasya ca dharmasya
sukhasyaikantikasya ca
[Bg. 14.27]
Prabhupada: So He is the pratistha. Just like in this room there is illumination. The illumination is spread all over the room. (Hindi -- "Please hear") So the illumination is important or the light is important? What is important?
Guest (2): The original light. Source of the light. Isn't Brahman the source of the light?
Prabhupada: No, first of all try to understand. Just like the sunshine. The sunshine is important or the sun is important?
Guest (2): The original sun.
Prabhupada: Yes. Similarly, this impersonal Brahman illumination or effulgence, that is the bodily rays of Krsna. Yasya prabha prabhavato jagad-anda-koti [Bs. 5.40]. So ultimately Krsna is important, not this impersonal Brahman illumination. Brahmeti paramatmeti bhagavan iti sabdyate [SB 1.2.11]. You see practical example and learn here in the sastra. You'll understand Krsna is the origin. Aham sarvasya prabhavo [Bg. 10.8], personally says. Mattah sarvam pravartate. So Brahman also pravartate. But if you don't believe Krsna and sastra, that is different thing. Then you cannot be convinced. Sastra-caksusat. Your eyes should be through the sastra, not by manufacturing ideas. So sastras says this.
yasya prabha prabhavato jagad-anda-koti-
kotisv asesa-vasudhadi-vibhuti-bhinnam
tad brahma niskalam anantam asesa-bhutam
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
 [Bs. 5.40]
This is sastra, Brahma-samhita, that "This brahmajyoti is the bodily rays of Krsna. Govinda." So the rays of Govinda is not so important as Govinda is important. Govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami **. And Govinda personally says, aham sarvasya... Sarvasya means everything, including Brahman.
Guest (2): With all due respect, I was talking of Brahman.
Prabhupada: I am speaking of Brahman. Brahman means this brahmajyoti. You mean that. Yes, I am speaking that. This brahmajyoti...
Guest (2): Isvara is different from Brahman?
Prabhupada: Isvara everyone. But isvara parama is Krsna.
Guest (1): Paramesvara.
Prabhupada: Paramesvara. There is two words. One is isvara; one is paramesvara. You may be isvara. You may be isvara in your business. So many workers are working under you, and you are ordering, you are regulating, but you are not paramesvara. Similarly, you take each and every one, up to Brahma. They may be isvara, but he's not a paramesvara. Paramesvara is one. Mattah parataram nanyat [Bg. 7.7]. That is Krsna.
Guest (2): Then the last question. Rama, how do you relate?
Prabhupada: Rama means Krsna, the same. Ramadi-murtisu kala niyamena tisthan [Bs. 5.39]. Krsna is always existing with His different incarnation, expansions, ramadi-murti-Rama, Nrsimha, Varaha.... There are hundreds and thousands of expansions. Advaita acyuta anadi ananta-rupam. So Rama is expansion of Krsna. He's God. There is no difference between Rama and Krsna. Just like one candle, and if you light another candle, another candle, so one may be the first, second, third, like that, but in candle power they are all the same; similarly, Rama is expansion of Krsna. That does not mean Rama is less than Krsna. Rama, Nrsimha, Varaha. There are many.
Guest (1): That is what Hare Krsna mantra is, Krsna and Rama both.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Guest (2): But the translation of the word Hare in...
Prabhupada: Hara.
Guest (2): Hara, in English...
Prabhupada: Original hara. Just like lata. The lata, when you address lata, it is late. Similarly, when you address hara, the sambodhana is hare. Hare Krsna.
Guest (2): Sambodhana is to remove the evil, remove the bad part isn't it?
Prabhupada: No, no. Where is bad? There is no bad.
Guest (2): Hare Krsna means what? "Brahman, please remove from me the... " Isn't it?
Prabhupada: No, no, no. Why? It is addressing.
Guest (2): Only addressing.
Prabhupada: Yes. Addressing means with some purpose when I address Mr. such and such. Then if you say, "Yes, what do you want to say?"
Guest (2): It has no relation with the...
Prabhupada: Relation is there. Relation is there. Otherwise, how can I address him? Relation is there. So this form Hare, means Hara, is the potency of Hari. [break] Just like you are a grhastha. You have got your wife, you have got your maidservant. The maidservant is doing something, wife is doing something, but you have many potencies. The managing director is there, but he has got many assistants. Similarly, the Supreme Person has got multi-assistants, potencies. So they are all accepted as Hara, Hari's potencies. So we have to approach Hari through the potency: "O Hare. O the potency of the Lord. O Lord, be merciful." We cannot jump over the Lord without going through the potency. So those who are impersonalists, they cannot understand. But those who are intelligent, they can understand that God is person, He has got multi-potencies, and through the potencies He's working so nicely. This is Vedic injunction. Parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate svabhaviki jnana-bala-kriya ca [Cc. Madhya 13.65, purport].
na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate
na tat samas cabhyadhikas ca drsyate
parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate
svabhaviki jnana-bala-kriya ca
God has nothing to do personally. As we see a very big rich man, he hasn't got to do anything personally, but he has got so many assistants. They're doing everything. Similarly, parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate. But when the things are done, svabhaviki jnana-bala-kriya. The knowledge is so perfect and things are done so nicely that it is automatically being done. And the rascals who cannot see behind there is God, they simply see this nature: "The nature is working automatically." It is not the fact. That is also explained in the Bhagavad-gita: mayadhyaksena prakrti suyate sa-caracaram [Bg. 9.10]. There is adhyaksana. Yasyajnaya bhramati sambhrta-kala-cakro. Even the sun planet, such big illuminative, powerful, it is also rotating by the order of God. So similarly, we are addressing the potencies of the Lord. We cannot jump over God, because potencies are so important. They are actually helping hand to God. So if they are pleased, then God will be pleased automatically. Why we address, "Hara"? "Hare Krsna." The Krsna's potency, Radharani; Rama's potency, Sita... Therefore, first of all, Sita-Rama; Hare Krsna; Radha-Krsna; Laksmi-Narayana. We address the first, potency. So if I request your wife, "Mother, give me this help," and if she gives that "This man is very nice," you cannot refuse. You cannot refuse. So this is the process, the appealing to the potency of Krsna, "So now I am so much harassed. Kindly lift me and engage me in Your service. Hare Krsna." This is Hare Krsna. "I have served so many life the dictation of my senses, kamadi." Katidha na katidha palita durni desah: "My lusty desires, my senses, they have dictated me in so many ways which I should not have carried. Still, I have done it." Kamadinam katidha na katidha palita durnidesah. Nidesah. You are my master. You are asking, "Bring me a glass of water." That's very nice. But sometimes you may say, "You go to that person and speak this lie." I don't want to speak lie, but because I am your servant, I have to do that. Otherwise, my service will be cancelled. So similarly, kamadinam katidha na katidha palita durnidesah. Nidesah is all right, but durni desah. So we are doing this life after life, dictated by the senses, which we should not have done. But we have done it. Kamadinam katidha na katidha palita durni desah. So "All right, you have satisfied your master." No, no. That is also not the fact. Tesam karuna na jata na trapa: "They are neither satisfied, neither they are kind upon me that 'This man has done so much. Now don't order him.' " Tesam na karuna jata na trapa. "Then what you do...?" "Now I have rejected him. I have come to Hare Krsna-'Please engage me in Your service.' That is my life. I have done all this nonsense life after life. They are not satisfied. So therefore my business is to serve. 'I have come to You. Please accept me.' " That is Hare Krsna. Because "I have to serve. I have no other business. So I have served these rascals, but they are not satisfied." Na trapa nopasanti. "So why shall I do this business anymore? Yes. You are asking sarva-dharman parityajya mam [Bg. 18.66]. I do that. That's all."
Guest (3) (Indian man): With guru-krpa it can be revealed.
Prabhupada: Yes, you cannot have krsna-krpa directly. Guru-krsna-krpaya paya bhakti-lata-bija [Cc. Madhya 19.151]. That is Caitanya. You have to go through guru.
Guest (4) (Indian man): And how do we get guru?
Guest (1): Guru finds you.
Prabhupada: Not guru finds you. You have to find out guru. Guru is there. Guru is there. But if you want to be cheated, then you find out. And if you want to be cheated, the cheaters will... Guru-krsna-krpa. If you are actually serious to serve Krsna, Hare Krsna, then Krsna will give you: "Here is guru." Guru is there. Guru is there, but unless you are actually serious, you cannot get real guru. If you want to be cheated or if you are a cheater, then you'll get a cheater guru. (aside:) Hare Krsna. Give prasada. Bring prasada. Now we go to guru for some medical help. We go to guru for some economic development. So you'll get cheater. That's all.
