Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: In the Bhagavad-gita it is said that one who is intelligent, he will see four things before him. You may be very great scientist. You may be very much advanced in material science. You may be able to construct very high building, skyscrapers, and many millions of motorcars, but you have to think whether you have solved the real problem of life. The real problem of life is birth, death, disease, and old age. Not that to live in a high skyscraper our problems of life is solved. No. The problem of life is how to stop these four things: birth, death, old age, and disease. But we have neglected the real problems of life. And we are misusing our intelligence for constructing big buildings and constructing or increasing the so-called bodily necessities of life. The bodily necessities of life are four only. What is that? Eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. To maintain this body you require to eat something. Everyone is eating. You are eating, the cats are eating, the dogs are eating, the birds are eating. They have no economic problem. Eating is there already. Have you seen ever that a bird is dying for want of eating, eatables? No. So these things are already arranged. That is no problem. In every form of life your eatables are there by nature's supply. Similarly sleeping. The bird is sleeping, the dog is sleeping, the cat is sleeping, and you are also sleeping. But you have got a very nice apartment. Does it mean that you have solved the problem of sleeping? No. Then defending. The birds, the dogs, the cats, the animals, everyone knows how to defend in their own way. You go every day in the, what is called, Stowe Lake path. And as soon as you go, the swans immediately jump to the water because that is their defending. As soon as they go to the water, they know that "These human beings, they cannot come to the water. We are now secure." So that defending process is there even in the swans, in the birds, in everything. You don't think that because we have manufactured atomic bombs, therefore we have become very good. What is this atomic bomb? Killing. Killing is going on. Have you manufactured anything by which you can save from death?

So our problems of life, as it is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, is to solve these four things: no more birth... Because we are... Always remember that we are all eternal. Just like in this body, beginning from my mother's womb up to this old age, I am the same eternal soul, but my body is changing. So after changing this body also, I shall remain the same. Simply I shall have another body. This plain truth, there is no difficulty to understand. Now if I am eternal... If I am eternal means no death, no birth, no disease, no old age. That is eternal. So if I am eternal, whether it is possible to get an eternal body? Or eternal happiness? That is the problem of human society. If you can solve that problem, then you be proud of your civilization. Otherwise there is no difference between cats' and dogs' civilization and your civilization. Because you are simply trying to solve the problems of eating, sleeping, defending and mating. But these problems are already solved by nature's law.

So our developed intelligence should be utilized for solving these problems by Krsna consciousness. We are presenting this movement before you, your country, because you are intelligent, you are materially advanced. You are greater than all other countries. Therefore I present this movement, scientific movement before you. You just try to understand it. Lord Caitanya's movement... This is Lord Caitanya's movement. And the author of Caitanya-caritamrta... That is in Sanskrit. We have translated it into English, Teachings of Lord Caitanya. If you like, you can purchase that book. So in that book it is stated that caitanyera dayara katha karaha vicara. "Ladies and gentlemen, you just..., scrutinizingly you try to understand the mercy of Lord Caitanya, this Krsna consciousness movement, how it is solving the problems of our life." Vicara karile citte pabe camatkara. If you scrutinizingly test it and try to understand this movement, then you'll feel yourself that it is wonderful. And actually it is wonderful. So... And the process is also very simple. You do not require to be highly educated or philosopher or talented or rich or poor, or black and white. Doesn't matter what you are. It is universal. Any human being with little intelligence, he can understand. And even he does not understand, this process is so nice that if you continue this process for a few weeks you'll be able to understand. This chanting of Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare is transcendental vibration, sound. Sound is the origin of all creation. So this transcendental sound, if you vibrate, you will understand very quickly this philosophy of Krsna consciousness. And there is no loss on your part. Suppose you chant Hare Krsna; you do not lose anything. But if there is any gain, why don't you try it? We simply request you with folded hands that you kindly chant Hare Krsna. We are simply requesting you. We're not asking you to pay us something or to suffer something or be educated or be engineer or be lawyer, then come to us. Never mind what you are. Stay in your position. Simply try to chant these sixteen words, Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. You can try for one week. And there is no hard and fast rules. You can chant anywhere and everywhere. While walking you can chant, while driving you can chant. Nobody is going to tax, that "You are chanting. Give me this tax." It is very easy.

So kirtaniyah sada harih [Cc. Adi 17.31]. Ceto-darpana-marjanam [Cc. Antya 20.12]. If you chant, the result will be that your mind will be cleansed. The whole misunderstanding is that "I am not this body. I am spirit soul. But I am identifying myself with this body -- 'I am Indian,' 'I am American,' 'I am Christian,' 'I am Hindu.' " These are all your designations. You are spirit soul. Just try to understand that you are spirit soul, and try to understand on the platform of spiritual understanding. All problems will be solved. And so long you are standing on this designated platform -- "I am American," "I am Indian," "I am this," "I am that" -- there is no solution of problems. Take it for granted. There is no solution of problem. You stand on this platform of spiritual understanding; there will be solution of all problems. This is authentic, and those who have followed, they have got result. And take it from me that there is no cheating, there is no bluff. Simply chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare, and see the result practically. With my request, you can chant for one week and see the result. We are always prepared to serve you. We have got our temple here. Not only here, we have got our temple in Los Angeles, we have got our temple in New York, in Santa Fe, Montreal, Boston, and recently we're trying to open one temple in Buffalo. And two of my students, they have gone to Florida. They are also trying to open. So it is very nice movement, and it is very easy to chant. Now before me... I am Indian, you are all Americans. This Hare Krsna, this vibration may be foreign to you, but there is no difficulty to chant. The words may be in Sanskrit, but it is not difficult to chant. And if you simply chant, you get the result because it is transcendental vibration. Just like when television or radio vibration is there, either in India, America, everywhere the vibration is equally beneficial. Similarly, this transcendental vibration is coming down from the transcendental world. It is not material sound. It is not hackneyed. If you chant, if you practice, you'll realize it. So our request is that without any charges, without any fee, without any bluff, we say that you please chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

Thank you very much. [break] Raghupati raghava raja rama. Can you sing? I'll sing if you can repeat. You can note down. Raghupati raghava raja rama, patita-pavana sita-rama. Can anyone play in this harmonium melodious?

Devotees: Malati. [break]

Prabhupada: ...raghava raja rama, patita-pavana sita-rama. R-a-g-h-u-p-a-t-i. Raghupati. Raghava, r-a-g-h-a-v-a. Raghupati raghava raja, r-a-j-a, raja, rama, r-a-m-a. Raghupati raghava raja rama. Patita, p-a-t-i-t-a, pavana, p-a-v-a-n-a. Patita-pavana sita-rama, s-i-t-a-r-a-m-a. Raghupati raghava. (end)

Big Chunk Of Nonsense

Caitanya Caritamrta Adi 1.9
Mayapur, April 2, 1975

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Nitai: "I offer my full obeisances unto the feet of Sri Nityananda Rama, whose partial representation called Karanodakasayi Visnu, lying on the Karana Ocean, is the original purusa, the master of the illusory energy, and the shelter of all the universes."

Prabhupada:

maya-bhartajanda-sanghasrayangah
sete saksat karanambhodhi-madhye
yasyaikamsah sri-puman adi-devas
tam sri-nityananda-ramam prapadye
 [Cc. Adi 1.9]

Yesterday we discussed about purnaisvarya, sankarsanakhyam, nityananda-ramam, the Deity, the superintending Deity of the spiritual world. Here also, anywhere, the master is Krsna in His different forms. So just like for management we expand some secretaries, or personal representatives, similarly there is good management also in Krsna's affairs. The original person is Krsna, and His expansions, they are also as good as Krsna, but departmental.

So we have discussed yesterday that in the spiritual world, Sankarsana is the supreme manager. And so far the material world is concerned, the same person is the Supreme, but His name is different, Karanabdhisayi. In the spiritual world, the name is Sankarsana, and the material world, the supreme superintendent is also the same person, but name is different -- Karanabdhisayi. This Karanabdhisayi is maya-bharta. Bharta means husband. Just like a husband begets children in the womb of the wife, similarly, all these universes are impregnated in the total material energy, maya, by Karanabdhisayi Visnu. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita: aham bija-pradah pita.

sarva-yonisu kaunteya
sambhavanti murtayo yah
tasam mahad-yonir brahma
aham bija-pradah pita
 [Bg. 14.4]

The bija-pradah pita, the father, is the seed-giving person, and the mother is receiving the seed, and then she is impregnated and they develops the body. As we have got experience, the creation, the creative energy, this is going on, the same process, everywhere. So this Karanabdhisayi Visnu -- we have already discussed to some extent -- is the origin of this material creation. That, the scientists says, that... I do not know exactly what is their theory, but so far I have heard, that... There are so many theories. One of them is "There was a chunk, and from that, this material world..." They have no idea what is material world or spiritual world. But in that way a creation take place. Can anyone say what is the theory or..., of creation? Can any one of you say? What do they say about the creation?

Trivikrama: Their one theory is that there's a big chunk, and them from that, everything else came.

Jagadisa: It exploded.

Rupanuga: An explosion, a big bang.

Prabhupada: Eh?

Rupanuga: A big bang. An explosion.

Hamsaduta: There were some chemicals.

Prabhupada: So wherefrom the chunk came? That is not... That is their brain fag, that they are simply trying to get everything from matter. That is their material brain. But we see here that the origin is not matter. Origin is Visnu, Maha-Visnu. So Maha-Visnu is the supreme soul, maha, Maha-Visnu. So we cannot accept such nonsense theory, that chunk exploded. Where is the evidence that a chunk explodes automatically? How nonsense theory it is. We haven't got experience. There is explosion of big, big mountains when there is dynamite, and the dynamite is given by some person. So how explosion can take place without the hand of somebody else, some living entity? This simple theory they cannot understand, that where is the evidence that matter acts automatically? Where is the evidence? How you can say that there was a chunk? Suppose there was a chunk. First of all, the question will be: "Who made this chunk?" And then again, next question will be: "How explosion took place unless there was some living being to explode, as we have got experience that sometimes we explode, explode the mountain with dynamite, and that is arranged by a living being?" So they have no common sense even, and they are passing as big, big philosopher, scientist. Then where is the evidence? Can anyone say? Is there any evidence that matter explodes without a living being's touch? Is there any? No.

Pancadravida: The sun. There are so many explosions are going on in the sun every day.

Prabhupada: That is the same thing that, that vrscika-tandula-nyaya. Explosion is going on, but behind that all these explosions, all these transformations, is the Supreme Lord. That is here. And it is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita:

mayadhyaksena prakrtih
suyate sa-caracaram
hetunanena kaunteya
jagad viparivartate
 [Bg. 9.10]

They do not see who is behind this explosion. That is their ignorance or poor fund of knowledge. We have got practical experience that no explosion takes place without the touch of a human being. Similarly, even there was explosion going on, but there is a touch of the Supreme Being. That is the statement in the Bhagavad... Mayadhyaksena [Bg. 9.10]. We are seeing the explosion. Just like child sees the explosion. He does not know that there, behind the explosion, there is a management of a superior being. This is childish observation. Because in sastra we see that behind everything the hand of the Supreme Being is there, and by our practical experience also, we see that matter does not act automatically without being touched by a living being, so how we can accept this argument, that the explosion is going on automatically? What is the evidence? There is no evidence.

So this is not... Besides that, we have to accept the Vedic injunction, sastric injunction, not nonsensical theories. If we are guided by nonsensical theories, then we'll never be able to understand how things are going on.

panthas tu koti-sata-vatsara-sampragamyo
vayor athapi manaso muni-pungavanam
so 'py asti yat-prapada-simny avicintya-tattve
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
 [Bs. 5.34]

You can go on observing, one after another, by many, many years, many, many years. Just like if you start your jet plane from here to see where is the original cause, panthas tu koti-sata-vatsara, and go on for many, many millions of years with the speed of mind, panthas tu koti-sata-vatsara-sampra... Koti-sata-vatsara... Millions and millions of years. And panthas tu koti-sata-vatsara-sampragamyo vayor athapi. These airplanes, vayu-ratha... Vayu-ratha means airplane. There is airplanes. There are different speeds. What is the speed? The speed is mental speed. Now their speed, say, eighteen thousand miles per hour. But if there is question of mental speed, it is more speedier than the vayu speed. We have got experience. Many thousand miles, by your mind, you can reach within a second. So with the mental speed, airplane, if you start today and go for many millions of years, still it will be not possible to find out wherefrom the explosion is coming. That's it.

So that is not the way. Therefore sruti-pramanam. Sruti-pramanam means from the Vedic evidence we have to understand. Now, just like in the Vedas it is said, jalaja nava-laksani. In the Vedas, all knowledge was there, all the living entities described fully and with minute, exact quantity. Now, within the water, we understand from the Vedic literature, there are 900,000 forms of aquatics. Now, the modern scientists, how many they have observed or studied? But it is said exactly, 900,000. Jalaja nava-laksani sthavara laksa-vimsati. Of course, you cannot enter within the water. But on the land, now different, and that is two million. How many species of plants and trees, and that is two million. How many the botanists have studied? Two million. Sthavara laksa-vimsati. Even in your country, in your village, you'll find daily some new vegetable. You see? So these are the Vedic calculation. And not only that, there are different species of life, and how they are working, what senses are predominant in each and every life and everything is described. Everything is very minutely described. Therefore, if we want to have knowledge, you cannot do it by mental speculation. We should know that our mind is very, very limited. Simply by theorizing, it is not possible. Therefore tad-vijnanartham sa gurum eva abhigacchet sampit-panih srotriyam brahma-nistham [MU 1.2.12]. So we have to know from the supreme authority or the Vedas. Then the knowledge will be perfect. Otherwise...

So original creative energy is coming from this Karanabdhisayi Visnu. This is confirmed in Brahma-samhita. Yasyaika-nisvasita-kalam athavalambya jivanti loma-vilaja jagad-anda-nathah [Bs. 5.48]. The jagad-anda-nathah... Here it is also said, ajanda. Jagad-anda or ajanda, the same thing, or Brahmanda, the same meaning. Aja means Brahma. So the Brahma is the head of this anda. It is egglike. This whole universe is like an egg, anda. So as from the anda, from the egg, a bird is coming out; similarly, from this egglike substance, Aja has come. Aja means who does not take birth like others, human beings or animals, but from this anda. So the Karanabdhisayi Visnu another name is ajanda anghasrayanda. His whole body is producing universes. Ajanda-sanghasraya. Sanghasraya means aggregate, congregation. Just like we have got holes on the body, pores in the body. So we do not know even how many pores are there in my body, but it is a fact. We cannot, even in a localized head, we cannot count how many pores are there from which the hairs are coming. Is it possible to count? And how many pores are there in our body? This is a little body. And just imagine Maha-Visnu. Therefore His name is Maha-Visnu. From His pores of the body, the universes are coming. From His nostril, with the breathing, universes are coming. So just imagine how many universes are there. The whole body is full of potency to produce universes. And it is continually being produced. Brahma, brahma brhatvad. brhannatvat. This is the creation. And how you can accept this theory that there was a chunk and explosion and the universes became manifested? And these things are being accepted. Mudha nabhijanati mam ebhyah param avyayam. These rascals, mudhas, they do not know, and misleading... Andha yathandhair upaniyamanah [SB 7.5.31]. These rascals are blind, and they are leading some other blind men, and they are satisfied that "We have got all scientific knowledge." That's all. That is not the way of scientific knowledge. If you want scientific knowledge, then you should know from Krsna. That is scientific knowledge. Jnanam me paramam guhyam yad vijnana-samanvitam. Vijnana-samanvitam.

So we do not, I mean to say, become proud to have very, very scientific accurate knowledge by speculation. We are not such people. We are taught by the parampara system that we are humble servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and what our master says, we accept it. That's all. We do not like to be foolishly proud to have full knowledge of this universe, of this creation. We have full knowledge, but we understand in this way. This is called parampara system. Just like in the Vedas... Take for example the Brahma-samhita. It is spoken by Lord Brahma. Brahma has got the full knowledge. Tene brahma hrda adi-kavaye. Because the full knowledge was given..., full knowledge of creation was given to Brahma. We do not accept this nonsense theory that there was no human being, and later on, they became gradually civilized, and for the last two hundred years only they have got the intelligence, scientific knowledge. We do not accept these nonsense theories. We... Our understanding is: the first creation is the most intelligent human being, Brahma, not that there was no human being, or any living being. No. The first creation is the most perfect or intelligent living being. This is our theory. Not theory; it is the Vedic evidence. And he got full knowledge from the Supreme, tene brahma hrda adi-kavaye, adi-kavi, the original learned person, and then he compiled Vedas, giving full knowledge, what he experienced. And the Brahma-samhita is there -- it is written by Brahma. And in the Brahma-samhita, the Karanabdhisayi Visnu is mentioned, yasyaika-nisvasita-kalam athavalambya jivanti loma-vilaja [Bs. 5.48]. It is not that we are accepting this verse of Caitanya-caritamrta author. No. It is confirmed by the Vedic knowledge. This is the origin of creation, not that this chunk, or... No. Matter cannot expand. Matter, when there is reaction... Just like explosion. We have got experience that there is sometimes explosion like if you mix together two chemicals, acid and alkaline, there is explosion for the time being. But this explosion takes place when a chemist in the laboratory mixes soda, soda bicarb, and citric acid. Otherwise, it is not possible.

So this is wrong theory that matter automatically takes the explosion or something like that. Matter is handled by some superior living being. Then it explodes or whatever you call. It reacts. Otherwise, it is not possible. And because the living being takes the superior position for explosion of matter or reaction of matter, therefore in the Bhagavad-gita it is admitted that the matter is handled by the living being; it is inferior energy. Both of them are energies of the Supreme Lord, but one is superior energy, another is inferior energy. That is the statement in the Bhagavad-gita. Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh [Bg. 7.4], this material things, earth, water, air, fire, they are inferior energy. And Krsna says, apareyam: "They are inferior. There is another, superior energy." Apareyam itas tu viddhi me prakrtim param: "There is another, superior energy." And what is that superior energy? Now, jiva-bhutam, "These living entities." Jiva-bhutam maha-baho. The superior energy is not produced by the inferior energy. That is nonsense. The inferior energy is produced by the superior energy. This is perfect. We have got experience that the superior controls the inferior, not that inferior controls the superior. Where you get all this idea? Therefore it has been described as apara and para prakrti. And what is that para prakrti? Jiva-bhutam maha-baho yayedam dharyate jagat [Bg. 7.5]. The whole world is being manipulated by this superior energy. Just like we have got experience that a human being, an engineer, he is creating a skyscraper building, not that a skyscraper building is creating an engineer. Where is this theory?

So these are all nonsense, simply nonsense, mudha. Of course, we use this word mudha, and people become very angry, but what can I, can we do? (laughter) The mudhas must be explained as mudhas. And because the mudhas are going as intelligent, therefore there is chaotic condition. (bird chirping) There it is confirmed. So our Krsna consciousness movement is to become intelligent, not to remain mudhas, and to expose these rascal mudhas. That's this, our Krsna consciousness movement. So you must be prepared. While making propaganda, expose these mudhas. That is one of the service of Krsna. Don't remain foolish. Wherever there is required, fight with these mudhas and tell them rightly, straightforward, that "You are mudhas."

Thank you very much. (end)

Demonic Habits Are Being Killed

Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.9.47

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Take a test

Pusta Krsna: "...authorized Vedic knowledge one can see the cause and effect of the cosmic manifestation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, because the cosmic manifestation is also His energy. Both of them are different energies of the Lord and nothing else. The wise man can see how the fire is spread within the wood by consideration of cause and effect. Similarly, persons engaged in devotional service understand, O my Lord, how You are both the cause and effect."

Prabhupada:

rupe ime sad-asati tava veda-srste
bijankurav iva na canyad arupakasya
yuktah samaksam ubhayatra vicinate tvam...

In this book it is vicinate. I think that other book, viciksate?

Pusta Krsna: Vicaksate? And in the other book it says.

Prabhupada: Yes. It doesn't make any difference.

yuktah samaksam ubhayatra vicinate tvam
yogena vahnim iva darusu nanyatah syat
 [SB 7.9.47]

So yogena, this word, is very important in this verse. There are... Yogena means "by the means of," upayena, "by the means of." So as it is stated in the Bhagavad-gita, Krsna says that bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvatah: [Bg. 18.55] "Only by devotional service one can understand Me." So here the word yogena should not be understood otherwise. If one says that jnana-yogena, karma-yogena, hatha-yogena, dhyana-yogena... There are many yoga system. One can understand. That is the usual proverb nowadays, that "Any means, you can understand the Absolute Truth." Yata mat tata patha. "You can have your own process or yoga and you can realize God." But that is not possible. Krsna personally says, bhaktya mam abhijanati [Bg. 18.55]. In another place, bhaktya ekaya: "Only through devotional service." And practically we see there are many jnanis and dhyana-yogis, karmis. They have no clear conception of the Absolute Truth. Vague idea. Even in many other religious system they have got some conception of God, not clear idea. But in bhakti-yoga you can understand directly the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krsna.

Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Krsnas tu bhagavan svayam [SB 1.3.28]. There are many expansion of God. Advaitam acyutam anadim ananta-rupam [Bs. 5.33]. He has got many forms, but this form which we know as Krsna, that is the original Krsna, or original God. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita. Krsna says, mattah parataram nanyat: [Bg. 7.7] "Although I have got many forms, but the original, supreme form is Krsna." But that does not mean that the other forms of Krsna, not our manufactured, but as it is stated in the sastra... Krsna has got many names: Rama, Govinda, Nrsimha, Varaha. There are other forms. Ramadi-murtisu kala-niyamena tisthan [Bs. 5.39]. Rama, Nrsimha, Varaha. He has got many forms. Rama is also expansion of Krsna. So these forms... We should not consider they are less powerful than Krsna. Not that. But Krsna is the original form. The example is given in the sastra, just like candles. Diparcir eva hi dasantaram abhyupetya [Bs. 5.46]. The... There are thousands of candles, so we get one of them ignited, light up, and then second, then third, then fourth, then fifth -- you can go on increasing millions. The each light, each candle, is equally powerful. There is no doubt. Krsna's expansion not... The Visnu-tattva... It is called Visnu-tattva. Diparcir eva hi dasantaram abhyupetya dipayate na hi tatha prthag asti hetu [Bs. 5.46]. So Visnu-tattva. Visnu-tattva is one, but still... Just like the example, candle. One candle, first candle, is Krsna. Sarva-karana-karanam [Bs. 5.1], govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami. This is the conclusion.

There are sometimes controversy that "You do not worship Lord Ramacandra" or "You do not chant the name of Ramacandra first." These are all material consideration. Either you chant Hare Rama or Hare Krsna, it does not make any difference. If you like, you can begin with Hare Rama, and if you like, you can... These are, I mean to say, neophyte question, that "You are not chanting Hare Rama. You are making discrimination." We do not make any discrimination. We equally... But I like the form of Krsna. Hanumancandra(?) liked the form of Rama. But that does not mean that you like any form and he'll be God. No. You have to go according to the direction of the sastra. Ramadi-murtisu. Visnu form, they are stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. You have to accept the direction of the authorities.

Caitanya Mahaprabhu was asked by Sanatana Gosvami that "How we can understand the incarnation of God?" So Caitanya Mahaprabhu replied that "You will understand the incarnation of God with reference to the sastra. Don't manufacture your incarnation of God. That is not allowed." Then Sanatana Gosvami wanted to say Caitanya Mahaprabhu was incarnation, because in the Srimad-Bhagavatam it is said... Not only in Srimad-Bhagavatam, in many other, Mahabharata and Upanisad, there is mention, maha, vande maha-purusa te caranaravindam. This mahapurusa, Mahaprabhu, this vande mahapurusa, it is applicable to Lord Ramacandra.

tyaktva su-dustyaja-surepsita-rajya-laksmim
dharmistha arya-vacasa yad agad aranyam
maya-mrgam dayitayepsitam anvadhavad
vande maha-purusa te caranaravindam
 [SB 11.5.34]

This sloka is applicable to both Ramacandra and Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Visnu is always mahapurusa. Therefore Pariksit Maharaja is addressed sometimes, mahapaurusika. Because he is devotee of Mahapurusa, so he is addressed as mahapaurusika, like that.

So by the sastra indication, especially in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, Caitanya Mahaprabhu's incarnation is described:

krsna-varnam tvisakrsnam
sangopangastra-parsadam
yajnair sankirtanair prayair
yajanti hi sumedhasah
 [SB 11.5.32]

This is the most important verse indicating Caitanya Mahaprabhu as Krsna. Krsna-varnam. He is in the same category. And another meaning, krsna-varnayati: "The incarnation of Krsna who is always describing Krsna or chanting Hare Krsna." Varnayati. But tvisa akrsnam: "But by complexion, akrsna, not black." So "not black," that may be many other colors. Then which of them I shall take? That is also stated in the sastra. While making the horoscope of Krsna, Gargamuni, he said, idanim krsnatam gatah. Sukla-raktas tatha pitam idanim krsnatam gatah: "Nanda Maharaja, your son, this child, has now appeared as krsna, blackish." Idanim krsnatam gatah. "Otherwise this very child appeared in previous ages." Sukla-raktas tatha pita: "He... Sometimes He appeared in white color, sometimes red, sometimes yellow." This yellow color refers to Caitanya Mahaprabhu, golden color. So this is also confirmed. If somebody says that "He is Krsna. Why He is not blackish?" No. He appears as the devotee of Krsna in golden color. We say, therefore, "Golden Avatara."

So krsna-varnam tvisa akrsnam sangopangastra-parsadam. He is with His soldiers, sanga, upanga, part of the part. Advaita Prabhupada, Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananda is directly part, Advaita Prabhu is part of the part. And astra. Caitanya Mahaprabhu also has His astra, weapon. The astra means to, I mean to say, paritranaya sadhunam vinasaya ca duskrtam [Bg. 4.8]. So this astra, what is that? Sankirtana. Sankirtanaih. Yajnaih sankirtanaih prayair yajanti hi. This Hare Krsna movement is also astra of Krsna for killing the demons, but it is not like a... Like a sword it is not active. But it is astra. It is killing the demons but in a different way. The demonic habits are being killed, demonic habits. Everyone, we can understand it, how our demonic activities are being killed by this Hare Krsna movement. This is astra. This is astra, but it is being used in a different way, because in this age they are so fallen. So... Manda manda-bhagya. This real astra weapon cannot be used upon them. It is already dead. So therefore another type of astra to awaken them to life, that is Hare Krsna, maha-mantra astra. Otherwise they are already dead. A dead horse... "Beating the dead horse." A horse is dead; what you will get by beating with whips? It is already dead. So there are big, big demons. Hiranyakasipu, he was required to be killed by the nails of the Lord. He appeared as a ferocious lion. But here, the tiny demons, there is no need of nails or any sword. They are to be awakened simply by Krsna consciousness, chanting Hare Krsna.

So Prahlada Maharaja says that "You cannot understand in this age." In the last sloka he said, mauna-vrata-sruta-tapo-'dhyayana-sva-dharma-vyakhya-raho-japa-samadhaya apavargyah [SB 7.9.46]. The real business is apavarga. Pavarga I have explained yesterday: simply suffering. This material life means simply suffering. Pa pha ba bha ma. Each alphabet I have explained. It is simply suffering. And human life is a chance how to make this suffering null and void. That is apavarga. "A" means to make null and void. Pavarga. To make this pavarga life into apavarga. So these ten processes is, are recommended in the sastra. I have already explained. Mauna, sruta, tapa, these things are required. But they are also not direct method. You cannot understand. There are many, many tapasvis, raha. In Vrndavana you'll find many devotees, they are in a very secluded place. But my Guru Maharaja did not like this process, secluded. We have discussed many times. Sometimes if you sit down in a secluded place, imitating Haridasa Thakura, then you'll complain, "I am being disturbed in this way." One, that African boy, came? So he became disturbed. You must be disturbed. Because your mind is not controlled, if you sit down to get some extra credit, that "I have become so great devotee. I can remain in a secluded place and chant Hare Krsna like Haridasa Thakura," it is cheating. It is cheating. You cannot do that. You cannot imitate Haridasa Thakura. He met one beautiful young prostitute at dead of night, and the prostitute offered her body, and he was young man. He simply said, "Very nice proposal. You sit down. Let me finish my Hare Krsna." (laughter) So this is not Don't laugh. It is very serious thing. So you cannot do that; I cannot do that. It is not possible.

So we should not imitate Haridasa Thakura. But we should... My Guru Maharaja used to say, man tumi kisera vaisnava. It is mental speculation that "I shall do like that. Raha, I shall... In a secluded place, I shall chant." You cannot do that because your mind is not yet trained up. It is for the highest perfection stage that anywhere one can sit down and chant Hare Krsna and remain happy. That is not possible for the ordinary stages. Therefore my Guru Maharaja criticized, man tumi kisera vaisnava. Because it is all mental speculation, therefore he's chastising his mind, "My dear mind, you have become a Vaisnava?" Man tumi kisera vaisnava, pratisthara tare nijanera ghare, tava hari-nama kevala kaitava: "In a secluded place, sitting down, chanting Hare Krsna, for you it is simply to get some material adoration and cheating the people." He has said like that. Don't try to do that. Always be engaged actively in Krsna's activities.

We (conduct) our Krsna consciousness movement, therefore, engaging each and every one of you in some active service. We don't advise that "You have become so advanced... Now you are initiated. You can sit down in one place and chant Hare Krsna." That is not possible. So therefore, although it is recommended in a secluded place, but that is not possible in this age. We should be always engaged in active service. Then, some way or other, our mind will be engaged in Krsna's lotus feet. That is required, activities. Sa vai manah krsna... Just like Maharaja Ambarisa. He was statesman, emperor; still, he was fixing up his mind in Krsna's lotus feet. That practice we should... Abhyasa-yoga-yuktena [Bg. 8.8]. If we do something... Suppose you are going to distribute books. But what is the idea? "It is Krsna's books; it must be distributed." So Krsna is remembered there. At the same time, because it is Krsna's book, if somebody purchases, if he pays something, he'll look at it, something, that "What this nonsense has written? Let me see." Then he will get some idea. And if he reads one line, he comes hundred times forward to Krsna consciousness. This is the idea. If you want... Svalpam apy asya dharmasya trayate mahato. This is preaching. And a layman, he does not know anything about... [break] ...the wood. Similarly, Krsna is everywhere. Andantara-stham paramanu-cayantara-stham. Any wood you take, there is fire undoubtedly. Everywhere is Krsna, but sevonmukhe hi svayam eva sphuraty adah. If you engage yourself in service, then you'll see the fire, Krsna, there, in everywhere. Sarvatra sphuraya tara ista-deva-murti. That stage one can..., that whatever he'll see, he'll see Krsna. "Here is microphone. Here is loudspeaker. Where is Krsna?" Yes, here is Krsna because we are speaking about Krsna through this microphone. He is there.

So we have to practice this bhakti-yoga according to the direction of the authorities. Then you'll realize Krsna. Then the cause and effect, sarva-karana-karanam... [Bs. 5.1]. Everything will be realized and every moment you will see Krsna. Premanjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santah sadaiva hrdayesu vilokayanti [Bs. 5.38]. So unless we get that stage, we should not imitate personalities like Haridasa Thakura and others. We should wait for. That is the ultimate stage. But we should practice and work actively for understanding Krsna. That is Krsna consciousness movement.

Thank you very much.

Devotees: Jaya! (end)

"'Kill Krsna's Gita Commentaries"

74/04/02 Bombay, Bhagavad-gita 4.13

Pradyumna: (leads chanting)

catur-varnyam maya srstam
guna-karma-vibhagasah
tasya kartaram api mam
viddhy akartaram avyayam
[Bg. 4.13]

Translation: "According to the three modes of material nature and the work ascribed to them, the four divisions of human society were created by Me. And, although I am the creator of this system, you should know that I am yet the non-doer, being unchangeable."

catur-varnyam maya srstam
guna-karma-vibhagasah
tasya kartaram api mam
viddhy akartaram avyayam
[Bg. 4.13]

So beginning of human civilization is this varnasrama-dharma. The Vedic system is varnasrama-dharma.

The people known as Hindus in the world, the Hindu is a term given by the Mohammedans, from "Indus." Indus River is there. Now it is in Pakistan. So people beyond the Indus River, the Mohammedans in Arabia and other countries, they pronounce "s" as "h". Instead of "Sindhu," they used to pronounce it as "Hindu." So people living, crossing the river Indus or Hindus, they were called "Hindus." Otherwise, this "Hindu" term is not seen in any Vedic literature.

The real meaning is the people who observe the varnasrama-dharma, four varnas and four asramas. Four varna means brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. And below the sudras, they are called candalas, pancama, fifth grade, less than the sudras. That natural division is there everywhere.

Brahmana means the most intellectual, most intelligent person. Intelligent means one who knows, who has got sufficient knowledge. So brahmana means he has got sufficient knowledge even up to the understanding of the Absolute Truth. Brahma janatiti brahmanah. So that is first-class men, brahmana. So intellectuals or very intelligent class of men, these are everywhere, all over the world. You may call them brahmana or not, but a class of men, very intelligent, that is available in every part of the world. So brahmana means the intelligent class of men. And ksatriya means they are less than the brahmanas. And vaisyas means less than the ksatriyas. And sudras less than all of them. It is a question of intelligence.

So catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. Krsna says, "These four varnas are created by Me." So anything created by God, that is not monopoly for any class of men or for any country. Just like the sun is created by God. The sun is the thing which is enjoyed by all parts of the world. But there are countries, Western countries, where sun is not visible, covered by the cloud. Any country, any part of the world which is covered by cloud and the sun is not visible, according to sastra, such country is condemned. Because, although the sunshine is there, but certain condition, they cannot enjoy the sunshine.

Therefore from the Western countries, when people come to this country, especially in India, when they see from the Arabian Sea bright sunshine, they very much become astonished, "How nice sunshine is here." So sunshine is the property for everyone, but according to intelligence or according to fortune, they enjoy it.

So brahminical culture also, similarly, it is just like sunshine. It is meant for everyone. But the people must be intelligent enough to take it.

Unfortunately, this system, although India was observing very rigidly, now it is slackened, or practically nil. We have lost our brahminical culture, the catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. This is the, due to the influence of Kali-yuga. Kalau sudra-sambhavah In the Kali-yuga practically everyone is a sudra or less than sudra. Less than sudra is called candala. Sudras, sometimes sudras also eat meat, but the less than sudras, they have no discrimination. They eat even dogs. The dog-eaters, they are described in the sastra, sva-paca. Sva means dog, and paca means, pacanti, cook.

But Krsna consciousness is so nice. It is said in the sastra, aho bata sva-paco 'to gariyan yaj-jihvagre (vartate) nama tubhyam. Even a sva-paca, candala, dog-eater, if he learns from the spiritual master how to chant Hare Krsna mantra, he is gariyan, he is glorified. In another place also, that sva-paca, candalo 'pi dvija-srestho hari-bhakti-parayanah. Even candala, he becomes greater than a brahmana, provided he becomes a devotee of the Lord. Hari-bhakti-parayanah.

So ordinarily, when people are not on the standard of bhagavad-bhakti, devotees of the Lord, there is division of the society. There must be. Otherwise things cannot go on. In the sastras we find that there is division even in my body: the brain division, the hand division or the arms division, the belly division and the leg division.

The brain division is the brahmana, and the arm division is the ksatriya, gives you protection. As soon as somebody is going to attack you, immediately, automatically you spread your hands. Ksatriya. Ksat means injury. In Hindu it is called ksatra. So ksat trayate. A ksatriya's business is one who can save you from being injured by others. That is ksatriya. And brahmana means the intelligent class. So as in the body, the brain is also required the hand is also required the belly is also required, and the leg is also required. Although the activities of the leg is not so important than the activity of the brain. Comparatively studying, the brain is most important part of the body, this head. If you cut the head of a man, then, in spite of possessing the arms, belly and legs, he is dead man. But if you cut the hand or the leg, he can live, and the brain can work. This is an example.

Similarly, when the society is divided nicely in these four divisions, the brahminical culture, the ksatriya culture, the vaisya culture, and the sudra culture... Brahminical culture means people should learn how to speak truth, satya, sama, how to control the mind, how to control the senses. Satya, sama, damah, titiksa, how to become tolerant, arjavam, how to become simple in life, how to become cleansed, how to acquire knowledge and how to practically apply the knowledge in daily life.

Jnanam vijnanam astikyam. And astikyam means full faith in the Vedic literature. That is called astikya. Astikya generally is called theism. So if one has full faith and full knowledge in Vedas, he becomes theist. If he has no sufficient knowledge in the Vedas, he becomes atheist. So just like Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu says, veda na maniya bauddha haila nastika. The Buddhists, they did not accept the authority of the Vedas. Therefore they are called nastika, or atheist. That is the definition, that if you do not accept the authority of the Vedas, then you become atheist. So this is the brahminical.... One of the brahminical qualification is how to live under the Vedic civilization. That is brahmana.

Similarly, ksatriya. Tejah, sauryam, very powerful, and ksatriya will never go away from the battlefield. Ksatriya's business is, in the battlefield, either to become victorious or lay down life. That is ksatriya. He is not coming back from the battlefield without being victorious, no. That is ksatriya's business. Not like.... ksatriya, therefore, they are in charge of the government. Nowadays the ksatriyas, they do not go to the government. Practically there is no ksatriya. That is stated in the sastras. Asamskrtah kriya-hina mleccha rajanya-rupinah. Mleccha. They have no that ksatriya qualification, mleccha, unclean.

Mleccha means unclean, without any Vedic culture. They are called mleccha. Anyone. It does not mean that any particular class of men is called mleccha. Anyone who is unclean and does not abide by the injunction of the Vedas, they are called mleccha, yavana. That is the shastric term.

So Krsna says for the upkeep of the society, there must be this cultural division of the society, namely varna and asrama. But at the present moment people do not know what is the aim of life. They do not know.

na te viduh svartha-gatim hi visnum
durasaya ye bahir-artha-maninah
andha yathandhair upaniyamanas
te 'pisa-tantryam uru-damni-baddhah
[SB 7.5.31]

Uru-damni-baddhah. Te 'pisa-tantryam uru-damni-baddhah, andha yathandhair upaniyamanah. People are.... Because the Vedic culture is lost, the system of brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, is no longer existing, neither there is training. One politician, minister in Calcutta, he came to see me, I was talking. "Why there is chaotic condition?" And the simple reason is there is no this catur-varnya system is lost. Practically without any brahminical culture, ksatriya culture, people remain sudras, the fourth-class man. Or fifth-class men.

So unless there are first-class men, second-class men, at least third-class men, only fourth-class, fifth-class, sixth-class men, how they can conduct. That is not possible. Therefore it is enjoined that catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. This division of the society must be observed.

Educational institution, there should be, but the education.... Just like in a university, they have different departments: medical department, engineering department, or biological and so many, psychological, chemical, physical.... They have so many departments. But there is no department, brahminical, kshatriyacal, or vaisya, nothing. Because they do not know what is the aim of life. They are simply interested with the bodily comforts of life. That's all. Never mind what is our next life, What kind of life we are going to. But that is, this is a fact.

Therefore we have to study Bhagavad-gita very seriously. In the beginning of Bhagavad-gita it is said by Krsna, tatha dehantara-praptir. There is dehantara. After leaving this body, I have to accept another body. Tatha dehantara-praptir dhiras tatra na muhyati [Bg. 2.13]. Dhirah means those who are sober, intelligent, they know that what is death. Death means giving up this body and accepting another, transmigration of the soul. That is death. So dhiras tatra na muhyati. A dhirah who is learned, he knows, but others, adhirah...

There are two classes of men: dhira and adhira. Adhirah means not controlled, animals. Just like animal cannot control. So human being is gradually coming to the platform of the animals. Because they are being conducted on the bodily concept of life.

yasyatma-buddhih kunape tri-dhatuke
sva-dhih kalatradisu bhauma ijya-dhih
yat-tirtha-buddhih salile na karhicij
(janesv abhijnesu) sa eva go-kharah
[SB 10.84.13]

Anyone Who is thinking that "I am this body," yasyatma-buddhih kunape.... Kunape means this bag, tri-dhatuke, of kapha, pitta, vayu. Am I this body? A first-class intelligent man is composed of this body. What is the composition? The blood, bone, flesh, muscle, stool, urine. Does it mean a first-class man is composition of these ingredients? But foolish people are taking the bodily conception of life. No.

Tatha dehantara-praptih. Dehino 'smin yatha dehe [Bg. 2.13]. This is the first understanding of knowledge, but people do not understand that within the body there is soul. They are so fool. Therefore they have been described in the sastra, sa eva go-kharah: [SB 10.84.13] "This class of men, they are no better than the cows and the asses." So you cannot become happy in the assembly of some animals.

Therefore people are so much disturbed at the present moment. There is no sober life, dhira. If you want peaceful life in the society, then you must accept this program. Catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. There must be brahminical class of men, ksatriya class of men, vaisya class of men.

The vaisya... Generally, we understand, vaisya means the mercantile class of men. No. At the present moment the so-called vaisyas are sudras, less than sudras. Why? Now the vaisya's business is krsi-go-raksya-vanijyam vaisya-karma svabhava-jam [Bg. 18.44]. The vaisyas must be engaged in producing foodgrains, but they are not interested. They are interested for opening factories for bolts and nuts and tires, Goodwheel tires, Goodyear tires. Now you eat tire and bolt nut. No, you cannot eat. You have to eat rice, and rice is ten rupees per kilo. That's all. Because no vaisya is producing food grains. This is the defect.

They don't see the defect. They're simply howling, bawling, "Oh, it has increased price". Why not, increased, price? There are millions of people in Bombay city. Who is producing food grain? But they are known as vaisya. What kind of vaisya? There is no brahminical culture; there is no brain. There is no ksatriya who can give you protection. There are so many defects.

So if you want to remodel your life, the society, the human society, nationally or internationally -- everything is spoken here, international -- then you have to take to the advice of Krsna. This is the purpose of Krsna consciousness movement: wholesale, thorough, overhauling of the human society. We have not manufactured anything, concocted things. It is very scientific. If you actually want to fulfill the mission of your life, then you have to take to this advice of Bhagavad-gita, very scientific and spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, without any defects.

If I speak something, there may be so many defects, because I am imperfect. Every one of us, imperfect. We commit mistake. To err is human. There is no human being who can say boldly that "I never committed any mistake." That is not possible. You must commit mistake. And sometimes we are illusioned, pramada. That we are all, because we are accepting this body as "I am," which I am not. That is called pramada, bhrama pramada. Then vipralipsa. I have got bhrama, I commit mistake, I am bewildered, I am illusioned. Still, I am taking the position of teacher. That is cheating. If you are defective, if you have got so many defects in your life, how you can become teacher? You are a cheater. Nobody's teacher, because without being perfect, how you can become teacher? So this is going on.

And the last defect is that my senses are imperfect. I cannot see properly, I cannot smell properly, I cannot touch properly. So many defects. Just for example I am seeing the sun everyday but I am seeing just like a disk. But it is fourteen hundred thousand times bigger than the earth. So sastra-caksusa. You must see through the sastra, not with these eyes. Just like they say sometimes, "Can you show me God? Have you seen God?" Well, can you see God? You cannot see even the sun properly. How can you see God? Why you are proud of your eyes so much? If you cannot see even material object and you cannot see even the spirit soul...

You are seeing daily your father, and when your father dies you cry, "Oh, my father is gone." Well, your father is lying here. How do you say your father is gone? "No, father is gone." Then how it is gone? "Now he is dead." How he is dead? That means you are seeing your father so many years, but you did not see who is your father. Now he cries, "Now my father is gone." Where he is gone? He is there, lying on the floor. So just see our fault, how much defective our eyes. I am seeing the body of the father and I am thinking, "He is my father." Sa eva go-kharah [SB 10.84.13], ass and cow, the seeing of the ass and cow. So in this way we are defective.

How we can guide the people? How we can become teacher? How we can become leader? Andha yathandhair upaniyamanah, yasyatma-buddhih kunape. Andha. I am andha, blind, and I try to lead others, andhas. Therefore there must be chaos. This will not help us. We must see through the eyes of Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. We must study Bhagavad-gita perfectly well.

How to read? Evam parampara-praptam [Bg. 4.2], through the disciplic succession. As Krsna said, you have to accept that teaching through the disciplic succession, not concocted meanings. "Oh, I am a very good scholar. I passed my DHC or MAC or MA. I can comment on Bhagavad-gita in my own way." That is rascaldom. That is not understanding of Bhagavad-gita. Bhagavad-gita means you must understand what Krsna says. That is understanding. But generally, it is done, "Kill Krsna. There was no Krsna. There was no battlefield. There was no Mahabharata. I have my concoction about Krsna." This kind of commentary and understanding of Bhagavad-gita has spoiled the whole world.

Therefore in the Western countries so many swamis and yogis went there and they misrepresented Bhagavad-gita. Of course, everyone knows in Eastern country Bhagavad-gita. Every institution, every gentleman, learned man, knows that there is a nice book, Bhagavad-gita, but they read these faulty commentaries. They cannot understand. Now we are presenting Bhagavad-gita as it is, and they are now understanding what is real Bhagavad-gita. Therefore they are now devotees. For the last two hundred years, so many swamis and yogis went there and talked about Bhagavad-gita. Not a single person became a devotee of Krsna. Now you will find thousands. Why? The Bhagavad-gita is being accepted as it is. This is the secret of this Krsna consciousness movement.

So our only request is that if you want happiness, if you want to prosper, make your life successful, you must read Bhagavad-gita thoroughly, as it is, as Krsna says. Don't try to misinterpret. "Krsna means this" and "pandava means this" and "This means this." Don't make this foolish rascaldom. Take as it is, Bhagavad-gita.

Krsna says that mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya [Bg. 7.7], aham adir hi devanam [Bg 10.2], catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. Here it is said. Krsna says, catur-varnyam maya srstam, you cannot cancel this system of varnasrama. Then you will suffer. You cannot cancel. You must accept, that there must be a class of men, real, brahmana. Not that "I am born in a brahmana family and I am doing the work of a cobbler. Still, I am a brahmana. No, not like that. Guna-karma-vibhagasah. Krsna never says that brahmana is born in a brahmana family. Here it is clearly said, catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah [Bg. 4.13]. Guna means quality. As you purchase something, that it is good quality, nice quality, similarly, you should accept a brahmana, a ksatriya, a vaisya, a sudra, by the quality and by the work.

Not only that. Just like you qualify yourself as a lawyer, but you do not practice. So who will call you lawyer? Nobody will call. But if you are qualified and if you are practicing, everyone says, [Hindi] He will go. People will go to consult with you. But if you do not practice, simply you have passed legal examination, nobody will come to you. So two things are required: the brahminical qualities and work like a brahmana. These two things.... If you are born in a brahmana family and you are, "Oh, all blessing to you," oh, what power you have got to bless me? You are not in quality, not in work. But people accept it, panditaji.

What kind of panditaji? Pandita. Pandita means one who knows. Then the Bhagavad-gita says, panditah sama-darsinah.

vidya-vinaya-sampanne
brahmane gavi hastini
suni caiva sva-pake ca
panditah sama-darsinah
[Bg. 5.18]

So this is the pandita, definition of pandita, not this rascal pandita, that rascal pandita. Pandita means one who has attained the spiritual platform. That is called pandita. Panditah sama-darsinah [Bg. 5.18].

Vidya-vinaya, brahmane, a learned brahmana; gavi, a cow; hastini, an elephant; suni, suni means candala, er, suni means dog; and sva-pake, those who are dog-eaters, candala. Panditah sama-darsinah. How is that, pandita has become mad that he is seeing the brahmana, learned brahmana, and a candala and a cow, everything on the same platform? How? Because he is not seeing this body: he is seeing the soul. That is pandita. Otherwise how a panditah sama-darsinah... [Bg. 5.18]. He is not madman. Those who are advanced in education, learned, they see that everyone is living entity, part and parcel of God. He is under condition now. So let him be awakened. Uttisthata jagrata prapya varan nibodhata. This is pandita's business, to educate. Just like the human being, one who hasn't got the spiritual knowledge, it is the business of the pandita to educate him.

Uttisthata jagrata prapya varan nibodhata: "You have got now this human body. In the animal body you could not understand what is spirit soul, what is God. Now you have got the opportunity." Uttisthata: "Now get up." Prapya varan nibodhata. "You have got this opportunity to understand." Athato brahma jijnasa. "Now it is your opportunity to inquire about jivasya tattva-jijnasa." These are the instruction in the Vedic literature. Tattva-jijnasa. The human life is only meant for tattva-jijnasa, to understand the Absolute Truth.

That requires brahminical culture, not the dull brain of sudras and candalas. They cannot understand. Therefore there must be an institution to educate a brahmana, to educate ksatriya. That is required. Catur-varnyam maya srstam [Bg. 4.13]. If you don't do it, if you simply produce sudras, bolt, nut manufacturers, technicians, then how you can be happy? Sudras. This is the business of the sudras. This is not business of brahmana. You keep sudras, but there must be brahmanas also.

Just like leg is also required, the brain is also required. You cut the leg, simply keep the brain, that is also defective and if you cut off the brain, then everything is finished. This is going on. There is no brahmana, there is no ksatriya, there is no vaisya, only sudras. So how you can be happy?

Therefore it is very essential to understand this verse. Catur-varnyam, train a class of men. Everyone required. There is intelligent class of men, but there brain is being misused, and intelligent man is being taught technology, how to manufacture machine. This is sudra's business. This is sudra's business. Misuse, brain misuse. There must be university where brain is properly utilized. Here is a child or here is a boy. He has good intelligence. Train him as brahmana. Less than that, train him as ksatriya, train him as vaisya.

Everything is there in the Bhagavad-gita. There is no difficulty. So if you actually want happiness, prosperity of the society, not only of this society, that, whole human society, they must accept this Krsna consciousness movement and then they will be happy. Thank you very much. (end)
