Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Pusta Krsna: They think that we are limiting God by saying that He's a person, or that He has form.Prabhupada: That is their foolishness. That is their foolishness. They are thinking God a person like me, like himself. That is foolishness. They cannot conceive that a person can become so powerful than myself. That is the defect. A person has acintya-sakti, acintya-sakti, inconceivable power. Now, just like you are person. You cut your hair. It is growing. Do you know how it is growing?
Hamsaduta: No.
Prabhupada: Then? Even it is beyond your conception, what to speak of others. But it is growing. It is... If there is any scar or if the nail is broken some way or other, it will come out. But... You cannot manufacture it by conceiving. But it is coming out. That means within you there is an inconceivable power. So if you have got, an ordinary human being, so much inconceivable power, how much God has got inconceivable power. That is God.
Hamsaduta: In Los Angeles, you called it mystic power, that every living creature has some mystic power.
Prabhupada: Yes. Every living creature.
Trivikrama: You gave the example of a lemon tree.
Prabhupada: Yes. The mystic power producing tons of citric acid.
Trivikrama: Citric acid.
Prabhupada: Yes, lemon juice. Acintya-sakti, inconceivable power. The cow, eating grass, producing milk -- this is inconceivable power. Can you produce milk from the grass? But how the cow is producing? Hmm? Answer this. You eat grass and produce milk. Give your wife grass and let her produce milk. [break] Your question is answered? Eh?
Satsvarupa: Well, it's answered, but they would say that our saying that... You said... I said, "Where did God come from?" You say that is the definition of God.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Satsvarupa: But then they can say...
Prabhupada: Everything comes from God, but He's self-sufficient. That is God. That is the searching out God, that you search... You... Wherefrom you came? From your father. Then your father comes from his father, from his father. Go on, go on. When you reach one person -- he does not come from any father; he is self-sufficient -- then He's God. That is the definition of... If God also comes like you, from a father, then how He is God? He's like you. That is the difference.
Satsvarupa: But they say that's not logically proved.
Prabhupada: That is logical... Means you have no brain to understand. That's all. That is the distinction between God and ourself. We are caused, but He is cause of all causes. That is God. Otherwise, how you'll distinguish between you and God? You are caused, but He is not caused. He's causeless. If He becomes caused, then He becomes like you. Then how He becomes God? That is the distinction between God and ourself. In the Srimad-Bhagavatam, in the beginning it is said, svarat.
Satsvarupa: Independent.
Prabhupada: Yes. Janmady asya yatah: [SB 1.1.1] "This Absolute Truth is that from which, who is the origin of everything, but He's svarat." This is the first line of Bhagavata. Janmady asya yatah anvayat itaratas ca arthesu abhijnah svarat [SB 1.1.1].
Satsvarupa: They don't like it because God doesn't come under their jurisdiction, then.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Satsvarupa: They want... They want God to be under their jurisdiction. So...
Prabhupada: That is their foolishness. You shall be under the jurisdiction of God. God is not under your jurisdiction. Then how He is God?
Ramesvara: They can't understand how it is that matter... They accept that matter always existed. They can't understand our point...
Prabhupada: Matter existed...?
Ramesvara: Always. That in the beg..., that eternally there is gas in the atmosphere, in the universe.
Prabhupada: Wherefrom the gas came?
Ramesvara: Well, they say... They believe that it always existed.
Prabhupada: Always existing.
Ramesvara: Yes, that's their idea.
Satsvarupa: Just like we say God is svarat, they say that the matter is svarat.
Prabhupada: Yes, in... Not svarat. We never find a gas is svarat, matter is svarat. They... Just this body. Has this body come out itself? Because the soul is there, the body has developed. Therefore the cause of this body is the soul. The body is not independent. And the soul goes away. Then body's no more independent. It cannot move. It becomes just like dust. "Dust thou art; dust thou be-est." [break] ...like this body is moving now, but it is not independent. It is dependent on the soul. The soul goes away; it does not move. So how it is independent? And everyone knows that because the soul takes shelter within the womb of the mother, the body develops. If the child comes out dead, it does not develop. Therefore matter is dependent on the soul, living being.
Ramesvara: Their argument is that matter is always in motion, that it is always moving.
Prabhupada: Where is moving? This is moving?
Ramesvara: Well they say the atoms, the molecules, are always in motion.
Prabhupada: No, no. First of all prove that this is moving. Then all, say all this nonsense. First of all, why it is not moving? This, this piece of earth, why it is not moving?
Visnujana: They say it's moving very slowly. You can't see it moving.
Prabhupada: Eh? Eh?
Visnujana: It's moving so slow, you can't see it.
Prabhupada: Then you become blind. Then you can see.
Devotee: But they'll say the whole world is moving, the whole cosmic manifestation is moving.
Prabhupada: Yes, that is another thing. But then how that is moving, we have to settle. But matter, as itself, does not move.
Ramesvara: 'Cause they say that within the, within the earth...
Prabhupada: That is within. You have got very good sight within. But I am a layman. I want to see that it is moving. (laughter) You have got some imaginary eyes. You can see.
Madhudvisa: They say that's advancement.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Madhudvisa: Advancement of science.
Prabhupada: Yes, to become blind is advancement, certainly. When this is... Who will say it is moving unless he's a fool? Nonsense. (laughter) Moving, that's all right. Everyone... The whole world is moving. That is another thing. But as it is, why, where it is moving?
Ramesvara: They're talking about the atomic structure, that the atoms are moving.
Prabhupada: And therefore it is moving.
Ramesvara: Within, the atoms, there is movement.
Prabhupada: Then here, today, this morning, you'll see it is lying there. Tomorrow you'll come. You'll see it is lying there. Where it is moving? What does it mean by moving?
Ramesvara: Well, they say that when atoms...
Prabhupada: They say! You say what it is. Don't say "They say." You use your intelligence. If the foolish man says something, shall I have to accept it? You use your own intelligence. "They say." If they are authority, then we have got authority. If you do not accept my authority, why shall I accept your authority? Come to argument. "They say." Why we will accept "They say"? They... Why? Are they authority?
Ramesvara: No.
Prabhupada: Then? What is the use of "They say"? You say. When you'll say "They say," I'll say "They say," (laughter) my authorities. My authorities. If you defy my authority, why shall I accept your authority? Then come to plain logic.
Madhudvisa: Well, you look at the earth, and you see it. It is stationary.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Madhudvisa: Just like we look at the building over there. From a distance, it is stationary. But if we go inside, we can see there is so much movement.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Madhudvisa: So similarly, you may walk by this earth every day and see it is stationary, but if you analyze it underneath a microscope, you will see that there is so much movement going on within.
Prabhupada: But that is due to air. That is due to air. Just like we can see so many atoms are moving in the hole from the wall, but that is due to air. So this is also moving. The whole thing is moving by air.
Visnujana: But not of itself.
Prabhupada: Not automatically.
Visnujana: Not of itself.
Prabhupada: Not automatically. You cannot say automatically. No, air is moving. Just like the, in the air, the cloud is moving. The cloud is not moving. The air, moving, and the cloud moving.
Trivikrama: Anyway, the basic proposition is that they, they don't have, they don't want to accept God, so they don't have to be accountable for their activities.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Trivikrama: So that they don't have to be accountable for their activities.
Prabhupada: Certainly. And they are being accountable. If they become so dull-headed, then God's power will make him a tree: "Stand here. Stand up here for three thousand years. That's all. You are so dull-headed that you have no sense, so become a tree so that even if you are cut, you cannot protest. You have no sense, senses." That is the punishment. "If you don't eat prasadam, then eat stool." This is the arrangement. So they are being punished. But they are so dull-headed, they cannot understand.
Pusta Krsna: With their science, they've been able to build so many buildings and roads and bridges and so many things which they consider wonderful.
Prabhupada: And what you'll do with the buildings? You'll be kicked out. Your building will remain there. Your spoiling labor will remain there, but you will be kicked out. You cannot live there. Who is managing these affairs? "So you have constructed a building? All right, I kick you out. Get out!" Then what is the purpose of building? If you know that "I am constructing this high building, and tomorrow somebody will kick me out," then what is the use? Have you made it insured that you'll not be kicked out?
Visnujana: No.
Prabhupada: Then it is useless waste of time.
Madhudvisa: You can enjoy it while you are here, though.
Prabhupada: That's all right. That is called foolishness, that "I am going to be kicked out tomorrow, and let me enjoy tonight." That's all. That is foolishness.
Madhudvisa: This is their only recourse 'cause they don't believe in anything after this life.
Prabhupada: Yes. They... That... "Don't believe" means, don't take knowledge means, foolishness. Yes. Just like you are walking. You don't believe that you are going to the temple, but simply walking. Is that very intelligent? We are going. We are going to some place. We know that. That is intelligent. And if I ask you, "Why you are walking?" "That I do not know." Is that very intelligent man?
Satsvarupa: Like animal.
Prabhupada: Animal, that's all. Animal also knows that "I'll have to go there." Without any aim, without any purpose, if they are working, they are fool number one, mudhah.
Pusta Krsna: Sometimes the argument is put forward that in places where's there is not sufficient food and shelter and things like this, these problems should be solved first before the problem of spiritual life.
Prabhupada: Yes. Why don't you solve? There are so many land. Come here and grow food. Grow fruit. That is... That is the desire of Krsna. Annad bhavanti bhutani [Bg. 3.14]. Produce food and eat in sufficiently, be strong, and chant Hare Krsna. That is our philosophy. Why you are producing bolts and nuts, tire and tubes? Eat. Rascal. They do not know that first of all you must eat. No, everyone is engaged in industry. Why? Krsna does not say that "Take to industry." Krsna says, "Produce foodstuff." Annad bhavanti bhutani. If you produce foodstuff, then both your animals, yourself, will be happy, becoming strong. Why do they manufacture other things? All these people are engaged in manufacturing, and nobody is manu..., er, growing food. Therefore the price of food grain is rising. Suppose I am growing food, and you are not growing, so you have to purchase from me. I'll ask, "You have to pay this price." And you have to pay. And if you grow your own food, there is no such question. The simple economic problem, solution, this rascal cannot take. If you grow your own food, I grow my own, then who is going to purchase? The price will be reduced automatically. If you have no customer, then you have to reduce your price. But they do not understand even the simple thing that "God has given us enough land to produce food grain, and we must eat." They do not understand this. And still, they are scientist, philosopher, politician. Just see. That is the difficulty. All rascals, fools, they are leading the whole human society.
Ramesvara: They're too busy making money to grow their own food.
Prabhupada: "So then pay more money. Come on. You have earned money and give me. I shall give you food. And whatever I shall ask, you have to pay." This simple thing, more demand-price is more. Then why do you gripe, "Oh, everything is price growing, price growing." Why it will not? If I have got food, and you have to purchase, and I have got so many customers, I must increase. That is economic theory: more demand -- the price is increased. And then you say, "There are so many problems. We have to solve first." But you have created this problem, rascal. And you shall must suffer. You have infected some disease. Now you must suffer. It is like say, karanam guna-sango 'sya [Bg. 13.22]. The reason is that you have infected some quality of the modes of nature and you must suffer for that. How you can deny it? If you have infected some disease like cholera, smallpox, and when you are suffering, how you can blaim? You have infected. You must suffer. Nature's law is so strict that as soon as you infect a particular type of quality of nature -- there are so many -- you must suffer for that, or so-called enjoy. There are two things, suffer and enjoy. So you must have to undergo the process. This is... Nature's process is so nice. As soon as you do something, there is reaction and you are bound up. Yajnarthe karma anyatra loko 'yam karma bandhanah [Bg. 3.9]. Bandhanah means bound up. Immediately you become bound up. And still, you are thinking, "Independent." The nature's law is so strict.
Pusta Krsna: But the argument is that "The cities are there, and now what can we do?"
Prabhupada: Hm ?
Pusta Krsna: The cities are already there. There are millions of people in the cities...
Prabhupada: Therefore we are offering this place. Come here. Why do you not come here and live with us? Then this is... The Krsna consciousness movement is... This is the movement, that you come here, live with us, and produce your food, produce your milk, be happy, healthy, and chant Hare Krsna. This is our movement. Therefore we are creating New Vrindaban and farm, and we are trying to purchase... This is our movement, that we give you sufficient food, shelter, health, philosophy, religion, character, everything, purity. Come here. Why don't you come? They come here on the weekdays, and then fly away, go away. You see? We are giving such nice room, but they will not live here. They will go to the hubble-bubble of the city. They like to come here. Therefore they spend so much money for gas and come here. But because they are not accustomed, they go back again. Return ticket. From hell to heaven, and again hell (laughter) Return ticket-coming back to hell again, not going back to God.
Satsvarupa: Srila Prabhupada, you said there was a man who read your Easy Journey, and he was very enthusiastic that he could go to other planets.
Prabhupada: But you must come back. He said, "Oh, I am not coming back again?" "No." "No, no, then I don't want." Yes, that is the psychology. The Russians, when some aeronaut was flying high in the sky, he was seeing: "Where is my Moscow?" Yes, it was published. That is maya. The... Another incidence happenned that when the jet was in danger, he was thinking of "How to come back home?" This is maya. Cannot go. Even though you like to go, still, it will attract you again, back to hell. Otherwise, how people are living in -- what is called? That place where is ice?
Hamsaduta: Alaska.
Brahmananda: Greenland.
Jagadisa: North Pole?
Prabhupada: What is the name of those people?
Devotees: Eskimos.
Prabhupada: Eskimos. Is that very good living? Just see. They won't come here. This is maya. This is maya. Avaranatmika-sakti. They, he's living in hell but maya is covering: "No, it is not hell; it is heaven." This is maya. Similarly all of us, we are living in this universe, material universe. We are thinking "This is all good. What is the use of God and going back to home, back to Godhead?" They do not take it very seriously. Although we give all information that "You'll haven't, you haven't got to work there. You'll get everything. Your life is eternal and blissful, and full of knowledge," they are not interested. Plugged.
Pusta Krsna: Plugged.
Prabhupada: Yes. Plugged ear, er, ears, yes. "You go on speaking, but I have plugged my ear." (laughter)
Trivikrama: "Chant, chant, chant."
Prabhupada: Yes. "Can't, can't, can't." That's it. (laughter) This is going on. The best intelligence is that "We are hearing so much about the spiritual world; there is so much happiness. Why not try one life? Like cats and dogs, I have tried so many lives. Why not sacrifice one life? Where is the loss there?" But no, they are so many, fallen, they'll not accept.
Satsvarupa: One man wrote a book about our movement, Hare Krsna, and he said one tragedy of this movement is that if a young boy or girl takes to this movement and later decides to try the material world again, he will have ruined his chances for a career, (laughter) and it'll be too late for him.
Prabhupada: Hm.
Trivikrama: That's a fact.
Pusta Krsna: Nehabhikrama-naso 'sti... [Bg. 2.40].
Prabhupada: Therefore Krsna says, manusyanam sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye: [Bg. 7.3] "Out of many millions of people, one may become interested about what is the perfection of life." They do not want. "And out of such millions of persons," yatatam api siddhanam [Bg. 7.3], "who was trying for perfection of life, out of many millions of them, one can understand Me, Krsna." maya is so strong. Manusyanam sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye. Everything is there in the Bhagavad-gita. Krsna consciousness is not for ordinary person. Most fortunate, bhagyavan jiva... Guru-krsna krpaya paya bhakti-lata-bija [Cc. Madhya 19.151]. All these living entities, wandering throughout the universe... Ei rupe brahmanda bhramite. If one gets the chance of guru and Krsna, then he can understand. And if still one argues, then he's again misfortunate. Therefore Krsna demands, "You rascal, don't argue! Surrender!" Sarva-dharman parityaja mam... That is the way. He commands.
Devotee: Actually, you were asking if there were any examples of explosions happenning without material cause, and I was just wondering if you could explain how volcanoes explode.
Prabhupada: Hm? That is God's desire, nature's way. Nature is behind this, and behind nature...
Devotee: Through the demigods?
Prabhupada: No. Nature, the material nature, and... Just like in... Sometimes at night you have got, what is called, pollution, night pollution?
Trivikrama: Yes.
Prabhupada: So why it is happenning? Why it is happenning? Why this eruption comes? Can you explain?
Devotee: I don't know what night pollution is.
Trivikrama: Passing semina in sleep.
Devotee: Oh.
Prabhupada: Why it does happen? What is your explanation? Nobody can explain?
Ramesvara: Desire in the heart, subtle desire.
Pusta Krsna: It is nature, just...
Prabhupada: No, no, nature... The body is made of material nature, and the eruption is coming. Why it is coming? Does it come in the dead body?
Devotee: No.
Prabhupada: Then? What is the cause?
Paramahamsa: The soul, living entity.
Prabhupada: Because the soul is there. Similarly, the Supersoul is there, and He's arranging everything. The volcano's eruption does not take automatically. When it is desired by Krsna, then it takes place. Mayadhyaksena [Bg. 9.10]. Why don't you read Bhagavad-gita. "Under My superintendence." When He knows that "Now this eruption is required," immediately there is... Parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate [Cc. Madhya 13.65, purport]. He has got so many potencies. One potency works. That's all. Because the living soul is there, therefore the seminal discharge takes place. Similarly, because the supreme living is there, therefore all these things are happenning. Where is the difficulty to understand? Krsna says, vistabhyaham idam krtsnam ekamsena sthito jagat: [Bg. 10.42] "The whole worldly affair is going on because I am there." Vistabhya: "I have entered into it." Don't you read in the Bhagavad-gita? Then? And we are reading that portion, how Karanavasayi Visnu enters in the each universe. He's... Then He expands Himself as Ksirodakasayi Visnu. We are explaining that. Krsna says in Bhagavad-gita, vistabhya. Vistabhya means entering.
Brahmananda: You have written that Maha-Visnu has some attraction to the material world?
Prabhupada: No, He has no attraction. You have got attraction. Therefore He creates. Maha-Visnu knows, or Krsna knows that "These rascals will have attraction for this material... All right, let Me arrange." He has no attraction. Why He'll have attraction?
Brahmananda: So one of the devotees said they read that in one of the books.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Satsvarupa: There is one purport that says that Krsna is different than Visnu because He's not, He has nothing to do with the material world.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Brahmananda: But Maha-Visnu, He has some attraction, or...?
Prabhupada: No attraction. He is duty... He is, what is called, duty-bound, assigned by Krsna, or He's not ordered. Krsna expands in Maha-Visnu and takes charge of this affair.
Ramesvara: Srila Prabhupada?
Prabhupada: Hm?
Ramesvara: Before I was asking about the scientific theory that the atoms are always moving, and you said that the earth is not moving now.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Ramesvara: You said that the... You pointed to a chunk and said that it is not moving. But they're...
Prabhupada: But if you..., then you are also moving. Everything is moving because you are on the earth. When the train moves, everything moves. But how it moves, train? That you have to search out. Train is not automatically moving. Some power, engine, is moving it. That is blind vision, that "Train is moving." How the train is moving? You have to see. That is childish. Train is not moving. The engine is moving the train. And how the engine is moving? The coal, fire, is moving. Then wherefrom the coal come? In this way, you have to search out. You'll find, ultimately, the supreme cause is Krsna. Nothing is moving without Krsna's indication. That is the explanation,
Mayadhyaksena: [Bg. 9.10] "Under My superintendence..." When Krsna desires, this big, big chunk will move in the air. Recently, Madhudvisa Maharaja said, the buses were flying in the sky.
Brahmananda: Buses?
Prabhupada: Yes. In Darwin.
Devotees: Oh, in that, that cyclone, cyclone...
Prabhupada: Yes. And whole city smashed.
Ramesvara: They don't know how to search beyond the microscopic level, microscope level. They think that the atoms have their own energy. They don't know the process of searching...
Prabhupada: The energy is: Krsna is there. Andantara-stha-paramanu-cayantara-stham [Bs. 5.35]. The asura's business is to avoid Krsna. That is their business. And our business is to establish everywhere Krsna. That is the difference between them and ourself.
Ramesvara: There is one theory that even the atoms have intelligence because the way they combine together to form larger molecules...
Prabhupada: That means that is Krsna's intelligence. They do not see Krsna. Try to understand the whole philosophy because you have to preach and you have to confront so many atheist rascals.
Pusta Krsna: These scientists need gurus.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Pusta Krsna: The scientists need guru.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Pusta Krsna: They never even think of these things.
Prabhupada: When they are captured and cornered, they say, "Yes, we are trying. In future we shall do that." Post-dated check. "You take this check. In future it will be paid." Who will accept that check?
Ramesvara: To that, they always say that in the past, man laughed at some scientific theories, and later they were proven...
Prabhupada: It is not scientific. It is all rascaldom. What you are giving, that is not science, that is rascaldom. Why shall I accept it is scientific? Because you have no full knowledge. What you are giving, it is simply rascaldom. Jaya. (Bengali)
Indian: (Bengali)
Nalini-kanta: So we say that one should live very simply, produce his own food, and chant.
Prabhupada: Yes. Then avoid all problems.
Nalini-kanta: So if we are given charge of the society, we should dismantle all this industry, all these cities...?
Prabhupada: No. We're not going to. But we can manage how to do it. First of all give me. I'll say how to manage. (laughter) We'll not create any problem. We do not wish to destroy anything.
Nalini-kanta: Just like we have big printing press and incense factory.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Nalini-kanta: But it is all managed nicely.
Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...mediately manage. "Stop all these worker illicit sex, intoxication, and chant Hare Krsna." The whole atmosphere will change. The production will be increased. There will be no dissatisfaction among the worker and the capitalists. Immediately everything will be solved. Now the competition is going on that the capitalist is exacting as much money from their labor, and he is spending it for wine and women, and the worker is seeing that "Our money, he's spending. Why not ourself? So let us form a communist party. Let us fight." This is going on. But they do not know how to spend money, sudras. When a sudra gets money, he'll spend for wine and women. That's all. He does not know that it should be spent for Krsna consciousness.
Nalini-kanta: So intoxication, illicit sex, we will make that illegal.
Prabhupada: Yes. It is illegal, but because they are rogues and rascals, they are doing all these illegal things. And because it is democracy, when the majority are acting illegally, it becomes legal. This is democracy. They cannot avoid it. They want to do the same thing by voting "There is no God." So there is no God. Bas. Finish. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Yadubara: No, he wasn't teaching that. He was teaching some physics. He was not a very good teacher. There were 1500 pupils in the class, students, and we would never be able to see the teacher, so many students.Dharmadhyaksa: He recently retired, and he was lamenting how young people are shunning science now. Young people are not so interested in science. He was also very disappointed that the new scientists were not as well trained as the old scientists and did not have the same desire to serve science.
Prabhupada: What they will do by serving science? The birth, death is already there. So they are becoming saner, that "What is the use of wasting time in this way? We cannot solve any problem." That is sense. They cannot solve any... He is still alive or died?
Dharmadhyaksa: He's alive.
Prabhupada: So ask him that "Find out some bomb that you will not die. Why don't you do that?" (laughter) Yes. "People are dying, and you have invented something to die very soon. So why don't you invent something that you will never die? Can you do that? Therefore we are no more interested in science. It is a waste of time." Tell him. You go your professor. "You are regretting that young men are no more interested. So this is our reason because, after all, we have to die. Everything will be finished. Then what is the use of studying? You have not improved anything. The animals have also two legs, and two, four legs. We have got also four legs and where is the difference? You say, the Darwin's theory, from monkey, man has come, but you never shown us that a monkey has ever given birth to a man. So all this false propaganda, we are no more interested." [break]
Bahulasva: ...Los Angeles you told Svarupa Damodara that in twenty-five more years science will be finished.
Prabhupada: Yes. Science is already finished. He is regretting that no young man is interested. That means it is finished already. That's a fact. [break] ...is finished, so-called religion is finished, so-called politics is finished -- everything. Harav abhaktasya kuto mahad-guna [SB 5.18.12]. Because they have finished God, everything will be finished. Zero, only zero.
Bahulasva: The whole human civilization.
Prabhupada: Where is civilization? (laughter) The mother is killing child -- is that civilization? Where is civilization? Less than doggish civilization. Dog also do not do that. And they are claiming civilization, nonsense rascals. Mother is killing child, and is that civilization? Less than dogs and cats. The dogs and cats also do not kill their children. They try to protect. You know? The cats, they carry their cubs from one place to another so that the male cat may not kill. The tiger also do that. The tiger, they also give protection to the...
Brahmananda: The rats, they sometimes do that.
Prabhupada: Everyone. Mother's affection is natural. Now the civilized mother is killing child. This is your civilization. This is your religion, this is your science, philosophy -- everything. And for this, you have created so many big, big buildings to create some less than animals. Civilization is finished unless you take to Krsna conscious. Now dictatorship is coming, politics. The dictator can arrest anyone without any trial and stop him. Even their own circle, the Communists... Nobody knows where is Kruschev. Indira Gandhi is doing.
Brahmananda: Even they arrest you for sleeping now.
Prabhupada: Yes. I have got enough place to sleep, and they will come, "You cannot sleep." What is this civilization?
Dharmadhyaksa: Indira Gandhi, she is taking instruction from the Russians. They are encouraging her to do all of this.
Prabhupada: Yes. Everything is finished. [break] ...principle, strisu dustasu varna-sankarah abhibavat.
Bahulasva: You can go around this way, Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: Oh.
Dharmadhyaksa: This inventor of the hydrogen bomb, he said he had no regrets about making the bomb. He had no regrets about his career whatsoever. And he felt that science was still the answer to man's problems. That's why he was lamenting so much that people were not interested anymore.
Prabhupada: So what is the problem? Real problem is birth, death. So have you any proposal?
Dharmadhyaksa: No, he has no proposal for those.
Prabhupada: Then what is this nonsense problem? So far eating, sleeping, even the birds and beasts, they have no problem. They are eating, sleeping. What is this problem in eating, sleeping and mating? There is no problem. Why you are creating problem? You are creating problem, rascal. There is no problem. Where is the... Out of 8,400,000 species, only men are 400,000. Eight million they are all lower animals. Where is their problem? They have no population problem, they have no food problem, no quarter problem. They do not go to office, they do not start factories. So where is their problem? Eight millions, they have no problem. And out of the 400,000, the so-called rascal civilized men, they have problems. Others they have no problem. They don't require a scientist rascal like you. (laughter) This is the... Tell them like this. If you take vox populi, so out of eight million four hundred, eight millions do not require a rascal like you. And out of the so-called civilized men, a few only, they require your service. So what is the value of your service? Others, they have no problem. Do you think they have problem, the birds and beasts? They are very freely walking from one tree to another and eating. Whatever fruits are there, they are eating. And the for mating, the female bird is always with him. Nature has given, when the birth is taken place, one male, one female, cats, dogs and birds. So there is no problem. Is there any problem?
Brahmananda: No.
Prabhupada: Then why these rascals create problem? And become a big scientist and draw a good salary, fatty salary, that's all. [break] He has invented hydrogen bomb, but does it mean the war is taking place every day? Say, after twenty years, fifty years, war will, then his service will be appreciated, by the time he will die.
Brahmananda: They have not used the hydrogen bomb yet.
Prabhupada: Even there is use, so where the use? We require daily things. [break] ...this fruit?
Dharmadhyksa: These are cones. This is a pine tree, and these are cones. What are cones used for?
Jayatirtha: Seeds are in the pinecones. [break] ...cone the trees come.
Prabhupada: Let them produce one seed like that. Sow it and a big tree will come out. Where is that scientist? Millions of living beings are coming out. You are trying to kill them, and they are trying to manufacture living being in the laboratory. And take credit. Where is the credit to you? Already millions and trillions are daily coming. Befooling men. They are fools and befooling men, that's all. This is their business.
Bahulasva: The cheaters and the cheated.
Prabhupada: Cheaters and the cheated. That's all. [break] ...meditating, what is that? Who was saying? Upendra? Where is Upendra?
Jayatirtha: He hasn't come, Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: So meditation means "I am moving the earth, I am moving the sun..."
Jayatirtha: From that Kundalini book.
Brahmananda: Oh, in that prayer he says, "I created God." That Yogi Bhajan. In his book he says that, that that is the meditation.
Prabhupada: "I created God."
Brahmananda: Yes.
Prabhupada: And you were created by dog. (laughter)
Dharmadhyaksa: That is a very big theory of the modern atheists that God is simply the creation of man's imagination in order to fulfill certain psychological needs.
Prabhupada: Then what is the cause of creation?
Dharmadhyaksa: Mother nature.
Prabhupada: So mother nature... Where is the father? (laughter) You rascal, without father, mother can give any birth?
Dharmadhyaksa: Well, it's asexual. There's some animals...
Prabhupada: No, no. So animal is their father? Where is the father? It is all right, "mother nature," but everyone knows without father, mother is useless.
Jayatirtha: It's a fact.
Prabhupada: Is there any mother who can give birth without father? So where is the father, rascal? Ask them.
Bahulasva: This way, Srila Prabhupada.
Jayatirtha: Sometimes they say that he is dead now.
Prabhupada: That's all right. But you must know what is your father. A man's father is dead -- that does not mean he can say that "I have taken my birth without father." That you cannot say. Father may be dead. That is..., we shall discuss later on. First of all you have to accept that mother cannot give birth without father. Who is that father? [break]
Bahulasva: ...nature has generated everything on its own. Just like we say that Krsna...
Prabhupada: Where is that nature, generating everything? Where is that nature? Show me.
Paramahamsa: They give the example of the corn. Corn doesn't have to have a... They say corn produces the seeds as well as the...
Prabhupada: Then wherefrom the corn came?
Paramahamsa: From itself. You see, they theorize that naturally...
Prabhupada: Theorize, theorize. But we say corn is produced... When the seeds are thrown on the ground, then corns are produced. Wherefrom... The corn is not dropping from the sky.
Paramahamsa: Originally, right.
Prabhupada: We have not seen the original.
Dharmadhyaksa: Well, originally, they say, it was just some chance combination of atoms and molecules...
Prabhupada: That is... A chance means you are a rascal. Nothing takes place with chance. That is his rascaldom. Nothing takes place. The answer is in the Bhagavad..., bijo 'ham sarva-bhutanam: [Bg 7.10] "The original seed I am." The answer is there. Bijo 'ham sarva-bhutanam. Challenge these rascals. They are cheating so many people.
Bahulasva: Well, then they want to say that if nature can't be self-existing, how can God?
Prabhupada: All right, nature is existing, but our proposition is that without father, how nature can give birth? If the woman is existing, the man must be existing. Just like in your country it is experienced that a girl has given birth to a child. Nobody knows who is the father. But still, it is accepted that she was pregnanted by a man, that is... You cannot say. It may be missing, but you have to accept, not that this girl is giving birth child without any union with a man. You cannot say that.
Bahulasva: Sometimes they say, Srila Prabhupada, that these examples are only valid because we're people and therefore we're...
Prabhupada: So you are people because you are nonsense. Say that, "Because you are nonsense. Why do you say people? You do not have any common sense even, that a mother gives birth to a child without a father."
Paramahamsa: Actually, Prabhupada, just one month ago I read a book in Swedish, and they actually say there's three cases in Sweden where children were born without a father.
Prabhupada: All right, let him satisfy there. But we have no such experience. We cannot accept his theory. He may be a single man to believe that. But no sane man will believe that. But we have got this answer. Krsna says, mayadhyaksena prakrtih suyate sa-caracaram [Bg. 9.10]. "Prakrtih, nature, is working under My direction." In the Brahma-samhita: srsti-sthiti-pralaya-sadhana-saktir eka chayeva yasya bhuvana vibharti... [Bs. 5.44]. bhuvanani durga, icchanurupam api yasya ca cestate sa govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami. Icchanurupam. The nature is working under the direction of God, Govinda.
Bahulasva: Now the scientists are studying the atom, Srila Prabhupada, and they agree...
Prabhupada: No, first of all let us know what they have done. What science they have done. They are proposing all nonsense theories, that nature is producing. So even if you accept nature as supreme, then you are subordinate. You are not independent. You are under... That also I explained. Prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih karmani sarvasah, ahankara vimu... [Bg. 3.27]. Why you are thinking independent? You are being carried away by the ear, pulling, "Come here." You are thinking there is no birth, but there is birth. Every moment you are having a new life, new birth by the... You can say, "I will not become old man," but prakrti will not allow you. You must become old man. You can say, "I will not die." You must die. So you are so dependent. Even if you accept only prakrti, no father, you are a fatherless child, that's all right, but even the mother... You have to accept the authority of the mother. Where is your independence? You are thinking foolishly.
Dharmadhyaksa: But that is why they are engaged in science in order to master nature. They realize they are dependent.
Prabhupada: That is another foolishness. That is another foolish-ness, and we fools shall be misled by these rascals. All future. "Yes, in future we shall do this. In future we shall do that." Post-dated check. "I give you millions of dollars by check." It is six months after. "Yes, you take it." So who is the foolish man who will take, accept a post-dated check? A foolish man may be satisfied, "Now I have one million dollars." That is another thing.
Dharmadhyaksa: Check comes back stamped, "Insufficient Funds."
Prabhupada: "No funds." (laughter)
Bahulasva: "Account closed."
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: They're always saying that the devotees are parasites. Everyone is always saying that the sadhus...
Prabhupada: That we have already answered. Just the Rockefeller. He may be also called parasite.
Devotee: He is.
Prabhupada: But he has got enough money to engage you to work for me. "You work; I enjoy." Devotees are so clever that you collect money... Just like our Krsna dasa collected money by doing hard work and gave me a check. Why shall I work? (laughter) I am so intelligent, I have created an organization-check is coming without my work. So who is intelligent? Why shall I work?
Bahulasva: Better to just chant and dance.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bahulasva: That is why they become mad because they become envious that we are chanting and dancing. They are working very hard.
Paramahamsa: They won't join.
Prabhupada: Yes, they asked in Los Angeles that "How is that? You do not work and you are living so comfortably?" They are envious. And the greatest economist, Professor Marshall, he has said that if man gets money, automatically he will not work. That is the basic prin... Therefore they are creating daily new invention.
Brahmananda: For more working.
Prabhupada: They are creating, yearly, motor car to allure them to work and purchase. That is the economic, whole economic basis.
Dharmadhyaksa: There's a case in Africa when the British took over Africa, Srila Prabhupada, that they had to charge the natives a tax, let's say, fifty dollars a year, and they would work... To make fifty dollars a year they would... [break] ...transcending dualities.
Prabhupada: First-class men. Our definition of God is: na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate. "He has nothing to do." This is God. Na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate: "He has nothing to do." He is simply enjoying, dancing with the gopis, that's all. Why He should go to work? Then what kind of God he is? Na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate.
Devotee: But He also says in Gita that He works too.
Prabhupada: Just to teach these rascals to work. Because here, without working, you cannot get your food. Therefore laziness condemned here in this material world. And in the spiritual world the Supreme Person is the most lazy person. (laughter)
Bahulasva: Just like yesterday you told the reporters. When they asked why such a big cart, so you told them that God should have a big car.
Prabhupada: And where is this car? When God assumes the universal form, where is the car? You have no such car. So this car is the smallest car of all. He has got... When He showed His Visva-rupa to Arjuna, so for that Visva-rupa where is the car? You cannot do.
Devotee: When Krsna is demonstrating work, He demonstrates in the form of Lord Visnu, not in His pastimes in Vrndavana but more in the form of Visnu, or how does He show?
Prabhupada: In Vrndavana there is no work. Outside Vrndavana there is killing of the demons. When He came out of Vrndavana, he began His business by killing His uncle, that Kamsa. Then so many other demons came, one after another. He had to fight. Even He had to marry by fighting.
Bahulasva: Ksatriya marriage?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: Even raksasa marriage.
Prabhupada: Ksatriya marriage, without fighting, there is no ksatriya marriage. For one prince, there are so many candidates. So they must fight between themselves and decide who is the hero. Then he will be allowed to marry. There was no such freedom: the princess are loitering in the street and you can take as many as you like.
Devotee: The price was blood, huh?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: Plenty blood.
Prabhupada: That is prince. They are not cheap, loitering street. Every father of the prince made some bet. Just like Arjuna got Draupadi. How difficult it was! There was a fish on the ceiling, and you cannot see in this way. You have to see. There is a water pot, and you have to pierce the eyes of the fish. Then you will get this prince. So many failure. It is not so easy job, see the eyes from the shadow, and in this way you have to pierce. It is not so easy job.
Bahulasva: You can go this way, Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: The Satyabhama's father, he made a bet that "I have got these bulls, one dozen bull, very strong. And the boy who will be able to break the horns of these bulls, I will offer my daughter to him." So whole world will fail. You see, it is not so easy job. But Krsna did it. That is Krsna. Krsna is not that husband, that he would pick out some cheap girl and make her pregnant and go away. (laughter)
Citsukhananda: I think this was the case with the Swedish book.
Prabhupada: Yes. (laughter) Krsna married sixteen thousand wives, and each wife he gave big palaces made of marble, furniture ivory, and silk and gold, and then again He expanded Himself into sixteen thousand forms, not that one wife is crying for sixteen thousand days, no. Ready (indistinct). And that is Krsna. That was also just to give them protection. When they were all kidnapped by Jarasandha... No? Bhaumasura. So when they were released, so asked them, "Go home." So in India, if a girl is kidnapped and she lives outside home for three days, nobody will marry her. That system is still now. So they said that "You are asking to go home but we will not be accepted." "Then what do you want?" "Now You marry us." "All right, come on." (laughter) Wholesale, sixteen thousand wives. This is Krsna. We are not captivated by Krsna, a Guruji Maharaja. We know what is Krsna. Then we accept He is God. He has proved Himself that He is God. Our Krsna is not going to marry a society girl secretary. He is not so cheap.
Devotee: This Guru Maharaji claims to be God, but he had to go to childbirth class to learn how to have one child.
Prabhupada: You should not talk about him, these rascals. Na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate, na tasya samah adhikas ca drsyate. This is the definition of God, that he has nothing to do personally. When Krsna kills the demons outside Vrndavana, He is not original Krsna; He is Vasudeva. Vasudevah sarvam iti [Bg. 7.19]. When Krsna is acting universally, that is Vasudeva. Original Krsna is always in Vrndavana.
Jayatirtha: If the original Krsna is always in Vrndavana, then why do the gopis and Radharani feel separation from Him?
Prabhupada: That is here, in this material world. In the spiritual world Krsna does not leave.
Jayatirtha: Oh.
Prabhupada: And even in the material world, Krsna superficially has gone to Mathura, but He has captured the heart of the gopis. So He is not leaving. Gopis are enjoying Krsna by separation. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's feeling, how He is appreciating Krsna by separation.
Bahulasva: Out here on the campus, Srila Prabhupada, different people come with little carts and they sell food things.
Prabhupada: Food?
Bahulasva: Food. They get a permit. We were thinking to have a little car and sell Bengali sweets.
Prabhupada: Yes. Bengali sweet selling is not our business. We should not waste in that way. Our business is how to make him Krsna conscious. If we find such opportunity by selling Bengali sweets, then we can sell. Otherwise it is useless. You should always remember this. We are not for selling Bengali sweets or any such thing unless it is connected with preaching our Krsna consciousness. You should remember it.
Citsukhananda: Bengali sweets means Caitanya-caritamrta, different books of Caitanya-caritamrta.
Prabhupada: Yes. Yes. Our, what is his name?
Jayatirtha: Citsukhananda.
Prabhupada: No, no. The boy who has taken sannyasa, bookseller?
Devotees: Tripurari Maharaja.
Prabhupada: Tripurari. He does so. (chuckles) He will sell Bengali sweet, and he will say, "You will find the formula here," so that his main business is to sell the Caitanya-caritamrta. Hare Krsna.
Devotees: All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Hari hari bol! Jaya Prabhupada! (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: "I have great love and regard toward you and I desire to win and gain your love and friendship by a kind, just and peaceable life. And the people I send are of the same mind. And I shall in all things behave." And what about the shooting? (laughter) [break] ...shooting?Ravindra-svarupa: It was a lie.
Kirtanananda: They made up a saying, "The only good Indian was a dead Indian." [break]
Prabhupada: ...nation or... So? Dancing?
Jayatirtha: But it says in the Declaration of Independence -- this is part of it here -- it says that "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights." So they admitted that there was God.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Jayatirtha: The founders of the nation admitted that there was God, but now they won't admit. [break]
Prabhupada: ...already very much attraction for this material world. That is called maya. And when we are involved with these things, material prosperity, then we become more involved. On account of our material attachment, we are getting repetition of birth and death in different forms of life, and these attractions are making us more and more involved. mayara vaibhava. People are becoming illusioned, "I am American. My country is so rich. I shall live here." But you cannot live. He is preparing for another body. So therefore Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, anitya somsare, moha janamiya, jiba ke karaye gadha. Anityad means we shall not be able to stay. Unnecessarily, we are becoming involved in this material world. Now, those who built up this nation, where they have gone, nobody can say. Because after this body is fallen, where he is being carried, nobody knows. He is carried by his work, fruitive activities. Therefore they do not believe next life. Finished. [break] ...gentleman, he was very well known, brother of Rabindranath Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore was poet, and he was artist, Abanindranath Tagore. In our childhood, in a meeting, he said that "Why should we bother about the next life? Let us enjoy this life." I remember that. Most people think like that. Carvaka Muni advised like that. Rnam krtva ghrtam pibet. "Just enjoy life." "I have no money to enjoy." "Beg, borrow or steal. Bring money. Purchase ghee." "I will have to pay." "Ah! Why do you think like that?" "Then next life I will suffer." "Don't think like that. Your body will be finished. Who is coming here again?" What is that tower?
Kirtanananda: Lighthouse.
Prabhupada: Lighthouse for the river?
Ravindra-svarupa: Yes. These buildings are all rowing clubs. They're for boating, boathouses.
Prabhupada: Oh. So still they are rowing house? No.
Kirtanananda: Yes. It is a big sport. They race. [break]
Prabhupada: ...idea is there in the western countries? No.
Kirtanananda: Not very much. Although the idea is there that the best education can be secured when boys are separate in school. That idea is there. The best families have always sent their sons away to school.
Prabhupada: That should be followed in our system. Boys and girls must be separate. [ ...introduce now. How long? What is time?
Brahmananda: It's still a little early.
Prabhupada: Early? [break]
Guru dasa: The concept in sport of celibacy is also there. The best sportsmen are supposed to not take intoxicants or also engage in sex life. That was the training. [break]
Ravindra-svarupa: ...will end in this park here.
Prabhupada: Oh. It will come this way?
Ravindra-svarupa: It will come from the other direction and end here. Down under these trees is a very nice place. [break]
Prabhupada: ...going through the city?
Ravindra-svarupa: We go through the city. The city's just on the other side of these trees.
Svarupa Damodara: One of our Godbrothers asked why the inductive knowledge is so successful, especially to scientists?
Prabhupada: Inductive knowledge always unsuccessful.
Svarupa Damodara: But science finds out these laws and so many things. So to some extent it's working.
Prabhupada: No, they can extend... Just like inductive knowledge is like this: you study man. You see, first man dies, second man dies, third man dies. In this way, you can go to hundred or thousand man. But I can say that "You might not have seen that man who does not die." I can challenge that. You cannot say... Simply by studying hundred thousand man, you cannot say that all men die. I can challenge that "You have not seen the..., beyond that. So how you can conclude like that?" There may be somebody. As you say, "May be," we can say, "may be somebody who does not die." (laughter) What is the answer?
Svarupa Damodara: That argument is different though from the way the science does. For example, they work so hard...
Prabhupada: The science does... They conclude something, and next man changes. So that is your science. So how you can make a conclusion?
Svarupa Damodara: But how so many things are working under the laws...?
Prabhupada: Working, that's all right. You have seen that so many people are dying. That's all right. But I am challenging that you have not seen the next man who does not die. That you cannot answer.
Svarupa Damodara: For example, they find the laws of motion, Newton's laws of motion. They utilize that concept in shooting rockets. And they use exactly some mathematical formula and apply it.
Prabhupada: That's all right, but sometimes the shooting of the rocket missing.
Svarupa Damodara: No, what we are saying is that the law that they find out by their own effort is working...
Prabhupada: So you effort is limited. How you can conclude?
Svarupa Damodara: So inductive knowledge is true to a certain limit.
Prabhupada: Certain extent, that's all. It is not conclusion.
Svarupa Damodara: But to a devotee, though, there is nothing like inductive knowledge because knowledge gives by Krsna. So it must be deductive.
Prabhupada: Deductive always. And that is easier. Krsna says that "I come as death and take away everything." So we know that nobody can be immortal; everyone must die. Simple conclusion.
Brahmananda: We don't have to test it because Krsna says it.
Prabhupada: Yes. You take that...
Ravindra-svarupa: We could never know ourselves unless we knew all cases.
Prabhupada: No, we do not require to know. We hear from Krsna, the Supreme Person. That is perfect
Devotee: That's our logic. You said that once.
Prabhupada: Yes, that is our logic.
Gurudasa: But also you said once that we feel it. That is our proof.
Prabhupada: No, feel, you may wrongly feel because you are imperfect. That is not good argument. Our argument is that the message is coming from the most authorized personality; therefore it is perfect. And we receive guru-parampara. That is our process. Evam parampara-praptam imam rajarsayo viduh [Bg. 4.2]. The rajarsis, means very, very, big, big, stalwart persons, they accept it. Just like Arjuna gives evidence that "I accept You. You are Parabrahma." So he, next line, he says, "It is not that I am saying. But big, big personalities like Vyasadeva, he has said. Narada has said. Asita has said. And You are personally saying, so I have no doubt." This is our process. [break] ...Upendra, Upendra has not come? [break] ...knowledge is always imperfect.
Svarupa Damodara: What about jnana-yogis?
Prabhupada: Jnana-yogis, they are also imperfect.
Svarupa Damodara: Their knowledge is speculative.
Prabhupada: Yes. Anyone who is speculative on the strength of his own knowledge is imperfect. Because we are imperfect, speculation is imperfect.
Ravindra-svarupa: The same criticism that you made of induction was also made by John Stuart Mill and Bertrand Russell, but they became skeptics. They said, "Therefore there's no knowledge at all."
Prabhupada: That is another nonsense. That is also speculation. (laughter) "Because I have failed, therefore there is no knowledge." This is also imperfect because how I can conclude like that? I am imperfect. I cannot decide this way or that way. So that is also. Vedic knowledge says that a conditioned soul has got four defects: illusion, mistake, imperfectness and cheating. Any conditioned soul. Even Brahma, he is receiving knowledge from Krsna. Tene brahma hrda ya adi-kavaye [SB 1.1.1]. Adi-kavi means Brahma. He is the most perfect person within this universe, Lord Brahma. So he is also receiving knowledge from Krsna. Any conditioned soul, beginning from Brahma down to the ant, they are defective in four ways: illusion, mistake, imperfectness and cheating. They know that "I am imperfect." Just this Darwin. He knew that he is imperfect, and he cheated so many persons -- by false theory, which he cannot explain. He simply gives, "Perhaps millions of years' gap...," this, that. That is not knowledge. So the imperfect person is prone to become a cheater. So we should not take knowledge from the cheaters. What do you think?
Svarupa Damodara: We should take knowledge from Krsna.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Svarupa Damodara: And Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: Yes. Prabhupada is giving you the same knowledge, that's all. There is no question of cheating. I have received this knowledge from Krsna, and you take this. That's all. My business is finished.
Kirtanananda: Things equal to the same thing are equal to each other.
Prabhupada: Yes, that is the duty. Parampara system means the spiritual master shall not give anything which is not spoken by Krsna. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's... Yare dekha, tare kaha 'krsna'-upadesa: "You become guru under My order." "But I do not know anything nicely, how can I become guru?" "No, you have no botheration. You simply take Krsna's word and say, and you become guru."
amara ajnaya guru hana tara ei desa
yare dekha, tare kaha 'krsna'-upadesa
 [Cc. Madhya 7.128]
If the child says to another man, "Father said, 'This is this,' " then he is perfect. He has learned from the father, and the father is perfect, then whatever he says, it is perfect. Why should he take so much botheration? So our, process is that, that we become guru not like that rascal Guruji, no. We speak whatever Krsna has spoken. That's all. Of course, we try to impress upon you with your reason, logic, but we shall speak the same thing, not anything else. Krsna says, "I am supreme;" We say, "Krsna is supreme." That's all. Where is the botheration? I haven't got to find out by my logic and induction whether Krsna is supreme. That I have already done. So Krsna is supreme. There is no doubt about it. Now, whatever Krsna says, it is all right. That's all.
Svarupa Damodara: That saves a lot of time.
Prabhupada: Yes, that is intelligence. That is intelligence. These, all these rascals, they are unnecessarily wasting. Srama eva hi kevalam. Simply they are wasting time. That's all. That is stated in the Srimad-Bhagavatam,
dharmah svanusthitah pumsam
visvaksena-kathasu yah
notpadayed ratim yadi
srama eva hi kevalam
 [SB 1.2.8]
You are executing your duties as scientist or as anything, but if you don't have faith in the words of visvaksena, then you are simply wasting your time.
Svarupa Damodara: That's one of the chapters in our book that Madhava is working, that inductive knowledge, there is nothing like inductive knowledge. It's all maya; it's illusion.
Prabhupada: Yes, it is illusion. [break] ...western countries it is full of inductive knowledge. That's all. [break] Dr. Radhakrishnan used to say, on sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam [Bg. 18.66], "It is too much." (laughter)
Svarupa Damodara: He died just a few months ago.
Prabhupada: Yes, he died, and brain fag. All his knowledge, last five, six years -- he could not recognize his own men.
Gurudasa: When we went to see him, he hardly could speak.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Svarupa Damodara: Because of his inductive knowledge.
Prabhupada: That's all. He became a victim of the western people. Because the Oxford University was paying him very nicely, he became a servant of the western thought. [break]
Svarupa Damodara: ...in the evolutionary cycle, the transmigration of the soul, we were inquiring whether there's any specific details in the Vedas about the step by step transmigration of the spirit, of the soul.
Prabhupada: Yes. From the aquatics to the plants, and then insect, then bird, then beast, then human being.
Svarupa Damodara: Then it's the same with the Darwin's Theory.
Prabhupada: Darwin has taken from here, and he has tried to explain in a hodgepodge way so that he may get the credit, that's all.
Ravindra-svarupa: The plants have more consciousness, manifest consciousness, than aquatics?
Prabhupada: Huh?
Ravindra-svarupa: That plants and grass, they are more conscious than aquatics.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is also mentioned in the Bhagavata, about different animals, how they are conscious, developed.
Svarupa Damodara: In the Bhagavata, in the later chapters, Srila Prabhupada? Not up to the present Fourth Canto that...
Prabhupada: Fourth Canto there is, how one animal is more conscious than the other.
Ravindra-svarupa: Yes.
Devotee: Prabhupada, did you say that trees have the ability to see and hear in the Bhagavatam?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Devotee: How is that?
Prabhupada: Just like a vulture, he has got more seeing power than you. Is it not?
Devotee: Yes. He sees the carcass, you give the example, from way up.
Prabhupada: Yes. (chuckles) But he can see only the carcass.
Svarupa Damodara: That is also acintya-sakti of the vulture. He can see... He has special eyes.
Prabhupada: No, it is acintya-sakti for us, but Krsna has given different power to different animals. For us it is acintya, not for Krsna.
Svarupa Damodara: Not for...?
Prabhupada: For Krsna there is nothing like acintya. Therefore we have to take knowledge from Krsna. [break]
Balavanta: ...the Vikings first discovered America, they said.
Brahmananda: From Scandanavia came, before Columbus.
Balavanta: But Mahabharata describes all the continents even way before that, doesn't it?
Prabhupada: Yes. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: (walking) ...means science of God. So what is that science of God? Who knows it?Jayadvaita: You do.
Prabhupada: Yes, I know. (laughter)
Bahulasva: Jaya! [break]
Prabhupada: ...of God means first of all we must know who is God. This is the first. Then, what is this material world and what is my relationship with this material world and God. This is science of God. [break]
Bahulasva: ...you wanted the colleges named the Vedic Theological College?
Prabhupada: Yes. Hm. Don't come very near. [break] ...that the college teachers and students must be brahmana, not sudras. Sudras will not be able to understand the science of God. What was the... Now, Dr... What is his name?
Bahulasva: Last night?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bahulasva: Dr. Mize.
Prabhupada: Dr. Mize? So what does he say?
Bahulasva: He said that he could give up the greed, but the lust was a very hard one for him to give up.
Prabhupada: (laughs) Yes.
Dharmadhyaksa: He wanted to become more unselfish, but he didn't know how he could give up lust.
Prabhupada: No, that can be done. If you increase your Krsna consciousness, love for Krsna, then you will forget this lust.
Dharmadyaksa: That's what we told him, that he must chant.
Prabhupada: That is the only. That is the only. There is no other second way. [break] ...conquer over lust, one has to take shelter of Madana-mohana. Madana means lust, Cupid, and Krsna is Madana-mohana. He can enchant the Cupid also. [break] ...Thakura, young man. At dead of night the prostitute came. How he restrained? That is... One who has realized Madana-mohana, for him these things are nothing, no enchantment. [break]
Dharmadyaksa: ...impressed with Your Divine Grace's energy and ability to work so much.
Prabhupada: Why you do not say, "This is spiritual energy"? Yes. [break] ...got so many dogs nonsense. And it is solved. Just see. And he has brought dozens of... [break]
Jayatirtha: ...life will be empty.
Prabhupada: Yes. Actually that is a fact. No family, no children, so they must have some. The dog is their children, family. That is the attraction for..., because mostly they do not have family.
Jayatirtha: They kill the family before they're born.
Prabhupada: Ah, yes.
Jayatirtha: And then, instead they get dogs.
Prabhupada: There must be something to repose my love. So they have no family, no Krsna. So naturally keep dog. [break] ...must be there, to love. That is my tendency, but if I have nothing, then I will have to catch the dog. What can be done? [break] ...furnish this television. Dog and television and whiskey and cigarette. That's all. (laughter) Is it not? [ ...in India these things are entering: dog, television. And cigarette, wine, has already entered.
Bahulasva: This is the degradation. [break]
Prabhupada: Ah, yes.
Bahulasva: So much sex, everything you watch.
Prabhupada: And not only that, horrible scene.
Bahulasva: Yes.
Prabhupada: Killing and like that.
Dharmadyaksa: They sit hypnotized. They say we are becoming hypnotized by chanting, but actually they are hypnotized by this TV set.
Prabhupada: No, no, that I have already explained. We must be hypnotized. If we do not become hypnotized by Krsna, then we must be hypnotized by this television and other. [break] ...purnima? No. Full moon, last night? No.
Harikesa: I think the full moon was Monday.
Prabhupada: Monday? [break] ...how many pages yesterday delivered?
Nitai: I finished a hundred pages.
Prabhupada: Just see. (laughs)
Nitai: Today I will finish the rest of Chapter Thirty.
Prabhupada: So what is decided?
Brahmananda: That he will travel with Prabhupada?
Prabhupada: That will be all right?
Nitai: Yes, yes.
Prabhupada: Then you can do that. They are composing hundred pages?
Ramesvara: Daily?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Radha-vallabha: Not a hundred pages. A hundred verses, each person. Each composer, one hundred verses approximately.
Prabhupada: Oh. And one verse means one page average? No.
Radha-vallabha: Two verses per page.
Ramesvara: Two or three verses per page.
Radha-vallabha: Two.
Jayatirtha: So between all the composers a hundred pages a day.
Ramesvara: Oh, between all the composers, more than a hundred pages.
Radha-vallabha: We are going fast enough so far to do the seventeen books.
Prabhupada: That's nice.
Radha-vallabha: I think in one week we'll be able to finish Madhya-lila, volume three, and Antya-lila, Chapter One.
Prabhupada: Very good news.
Radha-vallabha: I went to the press right after mangala aratrika, and one of the composers had already run out the door of the temple room, and she was composing already.
Prabhupada: Oh. [break] Palika is also doing?
Radha-vallabha: She's going to school now. she's learning how. She will start tomorrow, I think.
Ramesvara: In a few days.
Prabhupada: She is very expert. [break]
Radha-vallabha: ...all night long and they are not getting tired.
Prabhupada: That's nice. Spiritual energy does not get tired. That is spiritual. When we get tired, that is material. Spiritual means one would not feel tired. Anandambudhi-vardhanam. Vardhanam means increasing. [break] ...has not come?
Brahmananda: He left last night for Las Vegas. He will go to Denver. He will see you there.
Prabhupada: Last night at two o'clock (chuckles) he took film.
Brahmananda: Yadubara.
Harikesa: You were translating, he was filming? [break]
Prabhupada: ...night I was working from half past ten. (laughs)
Brahmananda: Then?
Prabhupada: No sleep, that's all. [break] ...sleep, utmost, one hour or one and a half.
Harikesa: Is it proper to say that your purports are getting better every day?
Prabhupada: I do not know that. (laughs) You think so?
Harikesa: Yes. [break]
Prabhupada: ...Dr. Kapoor has commented, "The purport is superb."
Brahmananda: Yes.
Prabhupada: Yes, he has said that. [break] ...from these waves how these birds catches...
Radha-vallabha: Fish.
Prabhupada: Fish. You cannot fish, but they know how to fish. They can see and immediately catch, while in the water. [break]
Jayatirtha: ...given them the facility that they need for survival.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is the... Jivo jivasya jivanam. They do not know industry. (laughs) So they have to catch their eatables from the nature.
Bahulasva: The scientists say that everything has developed due to the need for biological survival.
Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...is of the body, not of the soul. That they do not know. [break]
Radha-vallabha: ...because a certain animal needs a certain type of facility like long claws or big teeth or a certain amount of legs, they say that automatically in the course of time these things develop.
Prabhupada: Yes. That we know also.
Radha-vallabha: They don't say that it has anything to do with God. They simply say...
Prabhupada: That is their nonsense rascaldom. Who is arranging this? You cannot do it. You cannot do it. So somebody has arranged like that. It is going on. Somebody has done. You have not done; neither you have power to do it. So that somebody is God.
Radha-vallabha: The same scientist -- his name was Lamarck -- he said that the giraffes have long necks because after many, many years of trying to eat leaves from trees their necks got longer.
Prabhupada: What is that?
Brahmananda: He says the giraffes with the long necks in Africa their necks... Formerly their necks were very short, but they were always trying to eat the leaves on the top of the tree, so by doing this for many, many years their necks became longer, longer, longer.
Prabhupada: That is Darwin's theory.
Jayatirtha: Yes. [break] Gradually, they'll become pigeons. Because they want sex life so much, so more and more they'll develop the bodies of pigeons.
Prabhupada: Now the thing is who are they? That they do not know. They say "They are," but who are "they?" That they do not know. [break]
Bahulasva: In Krsna Book and Bhagavad-gita both, you explain there are five states of consciousness, beginning with annamaya, manomaya, pranamaya, like that. Do these states of consciousness manifest in different species of life?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bahulasva: Yes? So like plants for example, they would be in the annamaya state of consciousness?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bahulasva: Simply eating?
Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...in Vrndavana, as they will be advertised, many people will come, more people, because they will come rather surprisingly, "How the Europeans, Americans have become devotee and they have their temple?" That will be attractive for them. [break]
Brahmananda: Should they advertise like that?
Prabhupada: That is automatically being advertised. Just like our Mayapur mandir is known as "Sahib mandir." (laughs) Sahib means European. [break] It is said that... Where is Nitai?
Jayatirtha: Nitai?
Prabhupada: That visitors coming in full bus?
Nitai: Yes, yes. Yes, I have seen in the evenings many buses will come and park there. Everyone will get out and go see the Deities, take prasadam, take books.
Prabhupada: So gradually it is becoming...
Jayadvaita: The buses come from town or from Delhi?
Nitai: No, from Vrndavana. Tour... many pilgrims come, groups of pilgrims who are staying some place in Vrndavana, and then in the evening they will all get in their bus and come out and see our temple.
Radha-vallabha: Pilgrims come from all over India?
Prabhupada: And when they will go back to their villages, they will advertise, that "There is a European temple now in Vrndavana." And they will come. (laughs) And even the inhabitants of Vrndavana, they are saying that is the best temple in... Is it not?
Nitai: Yes.
Prabhupada: That is... But actually that is the fact. That is the fact. Our temple is the best. (chuckles)
Dharmadyaksa: Jaya!
Prabhupada: Now you make a best college. Yes. Vedic Theological College, affiliated to the California University. Then it will be successful.
Radha-vallabha: People are always anxious to see what we are going to do next.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Radha-vallabha: Even in Radha-Ramana temple they were asking when is our Vrndavana temple going to be opened.
Prabhupada: Oh. [break]
Radha-vallabha: ...police are also becoming very favorable. Even when they arrest us, actually they want to hear Krsna consciousness. (Prabhupada laughs) When they arrest us, while they are writing the tickets, we read to them out of the books.
Prabhupada: Just like Caitanya Mahaprabhu, when He was child, His mother's friend would tease Him so that He may cry, and then they will chant Hare Krsna, and He will stop. To see that by chanting Hare Krsna He is pacified to see this fun, they would tease Him first of all, and He would cry, and then they will chant Hare Krsna, and they will... [break]
Radha-vallabha: In New Jersey one time we were driving very fast to try and meet you at the airport, and a police officer pulled us over, and he was very angry. We were driving very fast. And he said...
Prabhupada: No, you should not drive fast. (devotees laugh) No, no, this is not good.
Radha-vallabha: We had to pick you up at the airport, Prabhupada, and we were late.
Prabhupada: That's all right, but fast, drive very fast, is risky.
Radha-vallabha: So this police officer he pulled us over. He was very angry. He said, "Let us see your license and registration." We gave it to him, and it said International Society for Krsna Consciousness on the registration. He said, "Oh, Krsna." And he asked us some questions about the philosophy, and he listened very carefully, and then he said, "I cannot give people like you a ticket." [break]
Prabhupada: ...they are pleased, but don't take undue advantage. Yes. [break] ...remain friends. That is wanted. [break]
Radha-vallabha: When they arrest us we read to them out of Krsna Book, the pastimes, and they listen the whole time. And sometimes for an hour and a half, two hours, they'll listen to us while we preach. Then they let us go. [break] Sometimes we are about to make an announcement to collect donations and the police officer will be standing there like this, like he doesn't want us to do it. And we go up to him and say, "If you don't look, we'll go ahead and collect and pass out magazines," (Prabhupada laughs) He will say, "All right."
Prabhupada: "Please close your eyes. (everyone laughs) Let us do something." [break]
Jayatirtha: (back in car) ...register as a travel agent so that we can get discount on all of our tickets, airplane tickets, and then also we can work on arranging that, that these tours would stop there.
Prabhupada: The Cox and Kings, they inquired from me, "Whether you can take charge?" Guru dasa can take charge of this. He is well acquainted with the several places. And he is loitering here and there doing as he likes. [break]
Harikesa: ...had the plan to perhaps get one bus and leave it at our place and then do tours on our own.
Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...airport by this way? No, the other way.
Jayatirtha: You can go this way. We usually go on the freeway. You can go straight up this street. [break]
Prabhupada: ...freely.
Brahmananda: Yes. Eating, sleeping, mating, and defending.
Jayatirtha: Everyone is afraid now, of taking it. The crime rate has become very high.
Prabhupada: Black and white?
Jayatirtha: Yes.
Prabhupada: Negroes are envious of the white men.
Jayatirtha: Yes. In Detroit every year one out of every five hundred people is murdered.
Prabhupada: White man?
Jayatirtha: White men and black men. Usually black men are murdering.
Prabhupada: What is the reason? The same feeling as in India, Hindu Muslim. But it is not so strong.
Brahmananda: No. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Bali-mardana: Yes, they try to make it rain or stop the rain. They try different experiments.Prabhupada: Why not death? Stop death.
Bali-mardana: Yes, they are trying that also. They are not succeeding.
Prabhupada: That is the misfortune. [break]...they are going to the sky for meeting, the Russian scientists and American scientists? [break]
Bali-mardana: On big island, the island that you visited where the farm is...
Prabhupada: Huh?
Bali-mardana: On the island with the farm, the people are, now they are afraid that there will be a volcanic eruption and the whole island will be finished.
Prabhupada: There is such sign?
Bali-mardana: Yes, because that volcano over there it is still active. It is smoking. It is always smoking.
Srutakirti: Siddha-svarupa had said every twelve years it erupts, and I think it's been ten years since the last one or something. So it's expected that in two years...
Prabhupada: The last time it devastated? No.
Srutakirti: I don't know. He said some damage, yes.
Bali-mardana: Paritally, not completely.
Paramahamsa: Partial devastation.
Prabhupada: No, when volcano is in smoke, that is dangerous. That is dangerous. [break]
Devotee: Shall we sell our land, then?
Prabhupada: What will come? Trust no future, that's all. We must be always ready for destruction. Material world is like that. Nitya anityatam. Canakya Pandita has says, tyaja durjana-samsargam: "Avoid bad men's company." Bhaja sadhu-samagamam: "Always try to associate with learned, what is, adhu, with devotees. Avoid this worldly men's association and try to associate with devotees." Tyaja durjana-samsargam bhaja sadhu-samagamam, and then smara nityam anityatam. "And always think that everything here in this material world is for few days." That's all. Tyaja durjana-samsargam bhaja sadhu-samagamam. [break] Anityatam. [break] ...be the motto of life. [break] ...associate with the materialistic person, try to associate with devotee, and always think that this world is for few days. That's all.
Ambarisa: This world is what?
Prabhupada: For few days. Nityam anityatam. [break] ...other. Kuru punyam aho-ratram: "And act piously, day and night." This should be the motto.
Bali-mardana: That is nice prescription. [break]
Prabhupada: ...yam aho-ratram. [break] Civilization is just the opposite. Always act sinfully, not kuru punyam aho-ratram. Twenty-four hours act sinfully.
Harikesa: It seems that practically every single person in society today is going to have to go to one of those hells.
Prabhupada: Hmm?
Harikesa: Every single person in society today is going to have to go to one of those hells.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bali-mardana: ...reads about the different hells he'll become scared. [break]
Prabhupada: ...animals. The animals... You keep the animals here, and take one of them, slaughter -- they will think, "I am safe." This is animal. All of them will think, "Oh, I am safe. He is being taken. That's all." This is their dull brain, the modern animals. [break]...dvi-pada-pasuh. These two-legged animals, they will think like that.
Paramahamsa: They say that if you have a herd of sheep and one, the first part of the herd falls off of a cliff, then all the rest of them will simply walk off the cliff.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is called veriya dasan. In Hindi, veriya dasan.
Paramahamsa: What is that called?
Prabhupada: Veriya dasan.
Paramahamsa: What does that mean?
Prabhupada: No, veri means lamb or sheep. Their walk... If you can push one of them in the slaughterhouse, all of them enter. This is called veriya dasan. You haven't got to endeavor to push others. You just push one only. "Fut, fut, fut, fut, fut, fut, fut," they all enter. (Laughter) In Hindi it is called veriya dasan. Just cheat one veri, and all others will be followers. [break] Long ago, when we were boys, we saw one comic cinema. That old cinema player was... His name was Max Linder. Max Linder. So this Max Linder was going to a ball dance, and he was waiting in the park, and the ball dance coat, you know? It has got a tail. So he was sitting in a bench, and some naughty boys came and they nailed the tailing part. So when he got up it became torn, like... So his, this hip was visible. So when was dancing in the ball others were seeing his, "What is this?" (laughter) So he went to the mirror, he saw, "Oh?" So he began to dance and show everyone like this. So others said, "What is this?" "This is the latest fashion. This is the latest fashion in ball dancing." "Oh?" Then all cut their tail coat. You see? "The latest fashion."
Devotee: That's how they got the cut now. There's a cut in the coat in the back.
Prabhupada: This is the veriya dasan. [break] ...taken the story from the Aesop's, no, Hitopadesa. Languli-hina srgala, a jackal without tail. So this is the world. Any nonsense you do and if you say, "It is the latest fashion," everyone will do. The miniskirt. One girl made it, so all girl. The veriya not only amongst the sheeps, and the so-called animal sheeps also do that, human sheeps. [break] ...very deep there, the water? They are standing.
Bali-mardana: Their... The surf boards are sticking out of the water. They are holding on to them. But it is not very deep, about six feet. [break]
Prabhupada: ...might be increasing? No.
Paramahamsa: This is a spot that has a very large crab population. Many crabs are living here, big ones.
Prabhupada: They catch.
Paramahamsa: Yes.
Prabhupada: They say it is very good eatables.
Paramahamsa: Yes, (Laughing) they say like that.
Prabhupada: And crabs?
Paramahamsa: Clams.
Prabhupada: Oh no? What is called?
Paramahamsa: Crabs and clams and lobsters...
Prabhupada: Yes. Lobster is very popular.
Paramahamsa: Oh, yes, that is a big delicacy. One lobster, if you buy it in the restaurant, they sell it for at least five dollars.
Prabhupada: Accha?
Paramahamsa: Usually closer to ten dollars, for one lobster. Very costly. [break]
Prabhupada: ...import lobster from India. I have seen it. Lobster from Cochin.
Bali-mardana: South India.
Prabhupada: Ah, South India. Lobster and this, what is called? Labhanga...? Cloves. And these cashew. Cashew is produced in India. [break] ...big, big European companies for doing this business in Cochin.
Bali-mardana: They were set up by the British?
Prabhupada: Yes, and Greeks. [break] Americans don't care for this business. They want machine.
Bali-mardana: They do not care for the clam business. [break] Europeans consider Americans a little bit barbarian, a little bit uncivilized.
Prabhupada: Why?
Bali-mardana: Because they say that they do not have very much manners, etiquette.
Prabhupada: They say boys, they are boys.
Ambarisa: Unsophisticated.
Prabhupada: Ah, yes. They are in the make-up, not yet fully civilized. [break]
Devotee: I was thinking if you would like to stay here for Ratha-yatra we can make it big Ratha-yatra here.
Prabhupada: Ratha-yatra?
Devotee: Yes. [break] ...different places, you like to stay here in this nice place, you can translate. Everyone wants you to stay here. I heard one of your letters quoted in Sri Govinda's letter that you like Ratha-yatra very much. So I think you would like to go somewhere. So if we can have it here, you can attend here.
Prabhupada: What he is doing?
Srutakirti: Cleaning his fishing net. [break]
Prabhupada: ...ratha?
Devotee: We can build it. We have few carpenters here, four or five carpenters. We can build it. [break]
Prabhupada: If you can build it, do it. I may be here or may not be here, but you observe the Ratha-yatra. [break] ...trying to make Ratha-yatra in Kuruksetra. That is the origin of Ratha-yatra. [break] It is light?
Devotee: Light. [break]
Prabhupada: ...introduce in India two places: one at Kuruksetra, one at Bhuvanesvara. Ratha-yatra. [ ...the cost of one house like this?
Ambarisa: One of those condominiums?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bali-mardana: The skyscraper.
Ambarisa: Oh, the whole building?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Bali-mardana: Fifty million dollars.
Ambarisa: Fifty million.
Srutakirti: That is that steel boat we were looking at to get.
Prabhupada: Hmm?
Srutakirti: The white boat there...
Prabhupada: White boat?
Srutakirti: Yes, the large white boat just there, that is the one we were after. That is the steet boat.
Prabhupada: Oh. This one?
Srutakirti: Yes, the large one, the biggest one there.
Harikesa: It's not so big. [break]
Prabhupada: ...can avoid.
Srutakirti: Yes. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Jayatirtha: What is the position of a soul that's in a sacred tree like a fig tree?Prabhupada: There are also sattva-guna, rajo-guna, tamo-guna. Sattva-guna, rajo-guna, tamo-guna is working throughout the universe. [break] ...was attempt to manufacture gold by combination of metals. They are not doing that?
Jayatirtha: No, I don't think they're doing that.
Prabhupada: Why?
Jayatirtha: They think that that's foolishness. They think that it's a legendary thing.
Sudama: Alchemy is not looked upon as very intelligent.
Tamala Krsna: Scientific.
Sudama: They've replaced it now with science, higher truth of science.
Prabhupada: No, it is not legend. If you can mix copper, tin and mercury -- this is stated in the sastra -- you can make gold. It is not legend. The particular metals to be combined, that is stated: copper, tin and mercury. You mix, and there will be gold.
Tamala Krsna: Why aren't they doing it?
Prabhupada: Because they do not know the process.
Tamala Krsna: No, but some Vedic people, some men who know the Vedas. In India they know.
Prabhupada: No. They make gold, some of the yogis.
Brahmananda: Yogis. You once said they swallow some mercury and then they...
Prabhupada: Yes. They swallow mercury overnight, and they pass urine on the copper, and then the copper is put into the fire. It becomes gold. There is same combination, mercury, copper.
Paramahamsa: The only difficulty is that mercury is certain death if you eat it.
Prabhupada: So therefore you must know how to eat. (laughter)
Tamala Krsna: But why don't they... I'm sure the scientists could figure out an easier way than having to swallow it.
Prabhupada: But in Kaviraji, they make some medicine which is gold added by this process, makaradhvaja. Makaradhvaja, the medicine which is combination of tin and mercury, and it looks like gold.
Tamala Krsna: So we could become rich if we do this, our movement.
Prabhupada: Yes, everyone will do, and there will be no rich men.
Paramahamsa: Is it tin and copper?
Brahmananda: Tin, copper and mercury.
Prabhupada: Yes. So you can try. You are...
Paramahamsa: That's brass. That's the constituents of brass.
Prabhupada: Tin and copper?
Paramahamsa: Like bell metal.
Prabhupada: Yes. And add mercury.
Paramahamsa: Is first the metals mixed together?
Prabhupada: I do not know that. (laughter)
Paramahamsa: I'll give you all the profits.
Prabhupada: I can give you suggestion. This example is given by Sanatana Gosvami.
yatha kancanatam yati
kamsyam rasa-vidhanatah
tatha diksa-vidhanena
dvijatvam jayate nrnam
This is the definition, that "As kamsa, the bell metal, by manipulating with mercury, it becomes gold, similarly, a person by the process of diksa, initiation, be becomes a brahmana. This is the example he has given. Yatha kancanatam yati. Kancanatam means gold. Rasa-vidhanatah, by process of mercury manipulation. Why he has not taken other metal? This is in the sastra. And the scientists -- I do not know -- they say that some, what is called, molecules? Some molecules added with mercury, it can be turned into gold.
Tamala Krsna: I don't know why they don't do it.
Paramahamsa: They are experimenting.
Prabhupada: They have not come to success. So why not make experiment in the laboratory?
Tamala Krsna: Yes. We should do it.
Jayatirtha: Perhaps Svarupa Damodara can do it. Svarupa Damodara is a chemist.
Paramahamsa: I have a lot of tin and brass.
Prabhupada: Brass you have got?
Paramahamsa: Would you like?
Prabhupada: No, you add mercury, then give. The kaviraji medicines, they mix mercury and sulphur, and then tin, and some other medicine, that make makaradhvaja, and it looks like gold. Svarna-sindhu, the name is svarna-sindhu, "vermillion of gold." That is a medicine. It looks like gold. The some medicine, they mix mercury and sulphuric acid first of all, and then with some other thing. Mercury cannot be directly heated. It must be mixed with sulphuric acid.
Tamala Krsna: What happens when it is directly heated?
Prabhupada: It will immediately blow.
Paramahamsa: Sulphuric acid is also poisonous.
Tamala Krsna: So it blows up as soon as it's heated.
Paramahamsa: Well, it's not a medicine then. You don't...
Prabhupada: No, they use as medicine, mercury mixed with sulphur.
Brahmananda: There was an advertisement that a ten cent piece, a dime, that was minted ten years ago it was made with silver. So that ten cent piece today is actually worth twenty-five cents. And the twenty-five cents piece that they make today, because it's made with copper, it's only worth ten cents. So it's better to have a ten cent piece that was made ten years ago than a twenty-five cent piece that was made today.
Paramahamsa: In the British historical museum in London, I have seen there's a plate about this large, and half of it is pure gold, and the other half is lead. And they found this. They can't explain. It's just a straight line where they separate, and they can't explain how it was produced. So they're experimenting now to try to change lead because there's only, what is it, one proton or electron in the atom? Different. There's only like one proton difference between lead and gold. [break]
Prabhupada: ...the sky there are many big, big planets where the millions of miles made of gold. Just like desert, there is gold desert.
Tamala Krsna: Yeah. We saw coming here a salt desert. There's a whole desert of salt.
Prabhupada: Where?
Tamala Krsna: In Utah. It's called salt flats. There's a great salt lake. And the lake is gradually drying up. And for miles and miles and miles, simply salt.
Prabhupada: Even in this planet.
Tamala Krsna: Yes.
Sudama: And the water in that lake is far more salty than the ocean water.
Prabhupada: Hm, must be.
Brahmananda: You cannot sink in it, I think.
Tamala Krsna: Yeah, it's not possible to drown. If you go into the water there, immediately you come up to the surface.
Sudama: So much salt.
Prabhupada: Oh. [break] ...the ocean of milk, ocean of milk. Ocean of liquor, ocean of oil, ocean of yogurt. [break]
Nalini-kantha: ...in the ocean of nectar. The devotees are living in the ocean also. Nectar.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is stated by Caitanya Mahaprabhu, anandambudhi-vardhanam. The ordinary ocean does not increase, but this ocean increases. Anandambudhi-vardhanam. Vardhanam means increasing. (dog barks) So they keep also dog? I was thinking there was no dog.
Paramahamsa: They're strays.
Dhira Krsna: Many dogs live around this campus, an unusual number, a very large number.
Paramahamsa: Srila Prabhupada, in what sastra is that recipe given for gold?
Prabhupada: In the Hari-bhakti-vilasa. Not recipe. The comparison is there in Hari-bhakti-vilasa. Perhaps purposefully the recipe is not given so that you can take and misuse this. (laughter) And forget chanting. Because as soon as you get gold, then you are no more interested in Krsna consciousness. That is the infection of gold.
Paramahamsa: But I have gold.
Prabhupada: No, you have gold. (laughs)
Tamala Krsna: Not great quantities.
Paramahamsa: Originally when I came to the movement I asked you this, remember? And you gave lectures on the subject, and I asked you about it. And you asked me for what purpose I wanted it.
Prabhupada: No, no, I don't wonder you. But the gold has got such infection that if one... That is the whole world, that as soon as one has gold, he is no more interested with God. That is the infection. "Ah!" He will say, "This is meant for the poor class of men who has no gold. I have gold. I am God." You know that Kali-yuga. He was punished, that "You get out." Then he said that "Where shall I go? Everywhere is your kingdom." Then Pariksit Maharaja said that "You go here, in the brothel, in the..., these four things." Striyah suna-pana dyutah yatra papas catur-vidhah: "Illicit sex, and slaughterhouse, and liquor shop, and gambling." Then he requested that "Instead of going so many places, you give me some place where one place will be sufficient." Then he said, "You go where there is gold. Then you get everything." Striyah suna-pana dyutah yatra papas catur-vidhah. Formerly, especially in Bengal, the gold merchants are taken as -- that is artificial, of course -- the low class because they are rich, and they indulge in these four kinds of prohibition. Hare Krsna.
Devotees: Hare Krsna. Jaya, Srila Prabhupada. (end)
