Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Aksayananda: ...from Agra came yesterday, Prabhupada. He wants to live with us. He knows Hindi. He's a teacher. He's a doctor. He's a writer. He's very, very nice. I'll bring him to you today.Prabhupada: He knows English also?
Aksayananda: English very well. Very humble and he wants to teach. If he can stay in Vrndavana I think it will be very, very beneficial for us.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: Wonderful. I'll bring him this morning if it's all right.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: Jaya. He bows down. He pays dandavats. He said, "You're a sannyasi, so I must respect. I'm only a grhastha."
Prabhupada: Yes, that is the duty.
Aksayananda: And he is also very intelligent. He's not just doing it out of sentiment. Very nice man. Older man.
Prabhupada: If a sannyasi is not offered respect, the punishment is that he should fast one day. That is sastric injunction.
Gunarnava: What is the punishment if one doesn't fast?
Prabhupada: You must go to hell. (laughter) [break]
Aksayananda: ...also come two or three times before over the months, so I know he is serious.
Prabhupada: Let him come.
Aksayananda: Yes, he's very nice.
Prabhupada: What is his age?
Aksayananda: I think he's about... He's getting on. He's fifty, sixty.
Prabhupada: That is all right. Then he should retire.
Aksayananda: Yes. His wife has, I think, expired, so he has no problem there. And he looked in our asrama, and he likes it inside there. He's prepared to live with brahmacaris and so on. Very good man. His name is Mr. Ugrasena. [break] ...much colder today.
Prabhupada: Yes, and it will increase. Yes. In December January it will be very cold.
Aksayananda: Yes. It'll be almost twice as cold. [break]
Prabhupada: ...middle of January, there will be cloud, rain. You have no experience, last winter, anyone? Huh?
Aksayananda: Yes, I have. Still, if we're sincere we'll stay in Vrndavana even if blood and stool comes from the sky, if you want.
Prabhupada: Why do you expect that? [break] ...capati, you apply little ghee?
Aksayananda: For the guests.
Prabhupada: And not for you?
Aksayananda: No.
Prabhupada: Why?
Aksayananda: Because it's very expensive and not necessary.
Prabhupada: No.
Aksayananda: If you say it is necessary, we will do.
Prabhupada: No, in this season it is necessary.
Aksayananda: Very nice. We'll do. That is nice. A little more ghee should be there.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: A little more grain. Even little grain at night is all right, I think.
Prabhupada: No, you must eat properly.
Aksayananda: Yes. Then we'll do it.
Prabhupada: And try to keep some cows.
Aksayananda: Accha.
Prabhupada: Yes. On the other land. Make a shed immediately and keep some cows. And Visvambhara, he is experienced. He will help. [break] ...necessary vairagya, there is no need. We don't approve that. Yuktahara-viharas ca. What you require for keeping health but not to eat too much. But what is absolutely required must be done.
Aksayananda: I heard that if you pass stool more than once a day you become a bhogi? You are called a bhogi?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: Does that mean a serious devotee should only pass stool once a day?
Prabhupada: Don't artificially do that. (laughter) First of all become yogi. Then do it.
Aksayananda: Yes. Of course, it can only be done by Krsna's mercy, but one should at least try for that.
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Jaya. Don't try for passing stool once. (laughter) That does not make you a yogi.
Bhavananda: Yoginam api sarvesam mad-gatenantaratmana [Bg. 6.47].
Prabhupada: Antara... Yes. That makes you yogi, not by passing stool. (laughter) Hare Krsna. [break] Huh?
Harikesa: That will be it? The scientist and the egg?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Harikesa: Okay.
Prabhupada: You know that? What is that article?
Aksayananda: The one you heard last night?
Prabhupada: No. When I was in South America I saw that...
Harikesa: South Africa.
Prabhupada: South Africa. There are many factories for chicken killing. So I suggested that the egg, you can analyze, find out the chemicals and...
Aksayananda: Create one.
Prabhupada: Create one egg. That was my proposal. So he is going to create. (laughter) He'll explain how to create egg from...
Aksayananda: From chemicals.
Jnana: And make chicken.
Harikesa: Calcium phosphate and a little sulphur for the yellow, make some color, and cover it in plastic and put it in an incubator and let a chicken grow.
Prabhupada: And you eat.
Aksayananda: That will be a nice article.
Harikesa: And if they can, they can beat us on the face with shoes, and if they can't, we can beat them on the face with shoes.
Aksayananda: Well, that's another thing. [break]
Prabhupada: ...ly regret is that these rascals are going as scientists and big men. Simply talk. They cannot create. It is very simple thing. Put some chemicals together and if you know the chemicals, then why don't you put it? And incubator put, then you don't require to kill so many chicken. [break]
Alanath: In Sweden when you go on the street and you preach, "Everybody must suffer here," they don't believe because everybody got an apartment. They have never seen a poor man or a starving cow.
Prahupada: But he is himself a poor man.
Alanath: In Sweden...
Prabhupada: But he has no knowledge to understand it. Why he is falling down from the skyscraper and killing himself? Why? A poor man commits suicide. So if he is committing suicide he is a poor man. He is a poor man. He falsely thinking that he is rich man.
Alanath: We're printing now a book there with all the talks according to the scientists and according to the Christian philosophy what was lately in the Back to Godheads in America.
Prabhupada: Don't write anything nonsense. It must be very solid. Otherwise, you'll be laughing stock. What you'll say, it must...
Alanath: No, just the talks you make. Just your conversations.
Aksayananda: Your lectures only.
Prabhupada: Oh. That's all right. One must be confident before challenging others. Not that theoretical. Challenge is no good. In all stages he must be able to defend himself from the opposing elements. Then such challenge is all right. [break] We are confident that this soul cannot be manufactured by any material combination. Therefore we can challenge. And I can defend ourself in any stage. [break] Cana, cana?
Aksayananda: Channa?
Prabhupada: Not cchana but cana. Canaka dahl?
Aksayananda: Oh, cana dahl, yes.
Prabhupada: Oh, yes. Cana dahl is good nowadays.
Aksayananda: Chick pea dahl for winter.
Prabhupada: Mixed with little urad dahl, then it will be very palatable and very beneficial.
Aksayananda: For at lunchtime?
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: Yes. Very good. [break] ...dahl will give you as much energy as eggs will any time.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda: Practically the same thing.
Prabhupada: It contains protein.
Harikesa: Actually it's a wonderful challenge. This big, big scientist, big, big brain...
Prabhupada: Big, big monkey. (laughter) "Big, big monkey, big, big belly, Ceylon jumping, melancholy."
Harikesa: And we walk in and put an egg in front of him.
Prabhupada: You do not know this? Baro baro bandolel, baro baro pet lanka dingate, matakare het.(?) (laughter) This translation was done by one big professor, of President's College, Professor Rowe. He was a big professor in the President's College. So these professors required to learn Bengali, so he translated, "Big, big monkey, big, big belly, Ceylon jumping melancholy." [break]
Alanath: There's some countries in Europe where they have absolute laws against selling books in the street. In these countries do we have to make something secret to sell your books?
Prabhupada: Secret? Why?
Alanath: Because otherwise they would immediately put you in prison.
Prabhupada: Where? Here in India?
Alanath: No. In Europe, like in Switzerland. But when we go there for selling books people take them like anything, but you have to hide before the police very carefully.
Prabhupada: Why? Why don't you take permission from the court?
Alanath: No. It's not possible.
Aksayananda: Have you applied?
Alanath: They have very strict laws. It's also been applied for.
Prabhupada: No, you have to prove: "This is very important book of knowledge, so allow us a special."
Alanath: It's especially different if foreigners try to sell a book there. And we have... Like in Austria we have no Austrian devotees there.
Aksayananda: They think it's an invasion.
Alanath: Yes. We used to go there sometimes, and it was very good. People took many many books, but sometimes they caught us, so...
Prabhupada: No, if they caught, go to the jail and when there is trial you should explain that "This is very important book. The government should allow to sell."
Alanath: If the policemen liked us, but the law is strict.
Prabhupada: Therefore you have to take defense from the law. You present in the court the professors' opinion, how they are giving standing order. Why the state should restrain distributing knowledge? Do they want to keep their men in darkness? You have to preach like that. [break]...University is the most important university in Europe. They read our books. They order standing order. So why this loafer state prohibit?
Alanath: ...these explanations, they always argue, "If we allow you to sell your books, then we must allow everybody to sell on the street."
Prabhupada: No. But you must consider the importance of... [break] Everybody submits application for becoming high-court judge. Will it be granted? There must be discrimination. [break] Thank you very much for your kindness. Yes. I am very pleased. Thank you. (end)

All women are mother

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Aksayananda: So there's no doubt that Lord Brahm is a pure devotee?Prabhupada: Whatever he may be, he is acarya. So you... Then Krsna is also passionate. Krsna is also passionate. Krsna danced with so many gopis; therefore He is passionate. They... These things are to be seen in this way, that "Such exalted person, he sometimes become passionate, so how much we shall be careful." This is the instruction. Then we petty things, petty persons, how much we shall be careful. It is not that "Acarya has become passionate, therefore I shall become passionate. I am strict followers of acarya." These rascals say.
Harisauri: So Lord Brahma's being attracted to his daughter, that is just as an example...
Prabhupada: So why you discuss this? Therefore you shall be attracted with your daughter, mother? Do you think so, like that?
Aksayananda: No.
Indian man: In this world this is our disease. This is our disease.
Prabhupada: Yes. That disease... Brahma... Lord Siva also, he was attracted to the Mohini. So they are isvara. They are controllers. So the instruction is that even such personalities may be sexually attracted, so how much we shall remain careful. This is the instruction. [ ...like the other rascal. Who was saying that "Krsna was killed by a hunter; therefore hunter is greater than Krsna"?
Indian man: Raja Gopalacarya, he has written in Mahabharata that Krsna was killed by a hunter.
Prabhupada: Therefore the hunter is...
Indian man: "Krsna Passes Away," the heading of his chapter.
Harikesa: You said about a couple of years ago that "What ordinary man would be killed if he was shot in the arrow by a heel," I mean, "shot in the heel by an arrow?" No ordinary man dies that way.
Prabhupada: So who reads Raja Gopalacarya's Mahabharata? (laughter) They are rotting at Bharatiya Vidyabhavan.
Aksayananda: They're rotting in the bookshelves and the insects are eating.
Indian man: But in Somanath... I went last year there when I was in Gujarat. The people, they don't believe, the people of Somanath, that he was killed by... like that. So these philosophers, simply for their name, they put some kind of theories so that people can, "Oh!" They can understand all this nonsense. [break]
Prabhupada: These pastimes of Krsna is to make the fools more fool. One who is thinking of Krsna as ordinary man, Krsna is playing this part to show them, "Yes, see. I am dying, this. You see."
Indian man: What He said? Avajananti ma mudhah.
Prabhupada: Mudha janmani janmani [Bg. 16.20]. He'll remain mudha janmani janmani [Bg. 16.20]. This is this pastime. Life after life, he shall remain a fool, rascal. So this Raja Gopalacarya and company, they'll remain in darkness life after life. For them this pastime is there. Avajananti ma mudh manusim tanum asritah: "The rascals, they think of Me as ordinary human being." To such rascals, He is playing like: "Yes, you see I am ordinary human being. Just see. I am dying." This is... To keep them life after life in darkness. If it is so easy to understand Krsna, that He is dying-Accha. "I have read it. I have seen. He has died." Then what is the use of saying, manusyana sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye yatatam api siddhanam [Bg. 7.3]? Out of many millions of persons one can understand Krsna. Then what is the use of saying this? If it is so easy to understand Krsna, what He is doing, what for He is doing, then everyone could understand Krsna. Then what is the use of saying, manusyana sahasresu? This requires intelligence.
Indian man: Bahuna janmanam.
Prabhupada: Therefore Krsna says, tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya: [Bg. 4.34] "One who knows, go and understand from them, from the guru." Don't make your interpretation, rascal. You shall remain always a rascal. Then what is the use of all these verses? If it is so easy to understand Krsna then why Krsna says, tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya: "Then you will understand. Go to the right person who has seen."
Indian man: But the rascal philosophers, they have put in their book that you don't need to go to a spiritual master. Like one lady, she is staying in our temple now. She is a life member from, I think from Kanpur. So I was discussing with her yesterday. She said that "Your devotees, they are forcing me," that she should accept Srila Prabhupada as spiritual master. She said, "No. I know Krsna. I am reading Srimad-Bhagavatam." And she told me that she has read in the book that one not need to go to spiritual master.
Prabhupada: But what she is? Why she is staying here? Huh? You have asked them to go? No?
Aksayananda: This is the first I have heard of it.
Indian man: I am going to tell her to go if she will not... She told me...
Aksayananda: I never heard this before.
Prabhupada: No, no. No. Is she is staying there as a paying guest or what?
Indian man: No, she want... She paid us eleven hundred rupees in Kanpur and, I don't know... The devotees, they promised her she can come and she can stay in our temple but they never told her the four regulative principles and to accept the guru.
Prabhupada: No, no.
Aksayananda: No, that is not true.
Indian man: So she wants the money back.
Prabhupada: So give. Give her back.
Aksayananda: She can have it back. That's no problem.
Indian man: So she should go.
Prabhupada: Give her back. So why don't you give and immediately?
Aksayananda: Yes, I will give her. She never asked me. I didn't know this.
Indian man: She asked Gopala Krsna, I think. So we will arrange. She should go, you know. She made a great confusion yesterday.
Aksayananda: That's all right. Let her have.
Prabhupada: Let her return the receipt or give a receipt and let her go away. Nobody can stay more than three days.
Indian man: Yes. We will do that.
Aksayananda: That we are doing.
Prabhupada: She can come, but not more than three days in a month. [break]
Harikesa: ...rascals will use any excuse to reject all of Krsna consciousness.
Prabhupada: That is atheism or demonism. [break]
Harikesa: Chinmayananda, when he lectures, he only lectures on the verses that are important. He says all the other ones, they're not really important. He picks out the ones that count.
Prabhupada: So why don't you cut his head and say that "It is not important. You are talking nonsense. Cut your head."
Indian man: He don't give any commentary on verses, even important commentary, he speak all nonsense.
Prabhupada: No, therefore you say, "This head is not required. You are talking nonsense," and cut his head.
Aksayananda: No one knows what he's talking about anyway.
Harikesa: Especially him.
Aksayananda: Yes. No one can say.
Prabhupada: [break] ...become a problem for all these rascals, that we are presenting Bhagavad-gita As It Is. That they are feeling that "If this movement goes on, then we are all finished."
Devotee (2): Out of work.
Aksayananda: Their profession is at stake.
Prabhupada: Yes, everyone. Yes.
Devotee (2): One Mayavad sannyasi, he wrote a book, "Be Your Own Guru," and he said you can...
Prabhupada: So why do you write book?
Devotee (2): Yes, he is being guru. He is teaching them to do without a guru.
Prabhupada: Let everyone become his guru. Why you write books?
Indian man: ...one book that one should not write a book without the permission of a spiritual master.
Prabhupada: Yes. You'll find in today's tape that Prahlada Maharaja recommending, that "Spiritual life begins by guru-susrusah, by serving guru." [break] ...Gosvami said, adau gurvasrayam: "The first beginning is to take shelter of the bona fide spiritual master." Sad-dharma-pracchat: "Then inquire from him about the spiritual path." Sadhu-marganugamanam: "Follow the previous acaryas." These are the steps. Bhagavad-gita, Arjuna said, sisyas te 'ha sadhi mam: "Now I become Your disciple. Teach me." And these rascals are more than Arjuna -- "There is no need of guru." Huh? He says, sisyas te 'ham [Bg. 2.7]. Why? He was already friend. Why he should submit himself as disciple? That is the beginning of spiritual life.
Indian man: Somebody put a question to Bhagavan Rajneesh that "you claim that you are God. Can you show us your universal form?" He said, "Well, I can show you. First you come like an Arjuna. First you become Arjuna. Then I can show you a universal form."
Prabhupada: So he admits that much.
Aksayananda: That he cannot.
Indian man: No, he admits that he can, but he has put...
Prabhupada: "So that's all right. Have you shown anyone your universal form amongst so many, your disciples? Have you shown?" The next question should be like that.
Indian man: He never asked. I was hearing tape in one life member's house.
Prabhupada: No, no, no, if... You learn that, "Have you shown ever your universal form to any one of your disciples?"
Indian man: There was not such intelligent person to ask this.
Prabhupada: That is the... Say.
Indian man: So we have to ask that. (laughter)
Prabhupada: If he says, "No, none of my students are efficient," "Then why you are preaching? If you cannot make any one of your students as efficient, then why you are preaching, wasting your time?" No, no, these rascal, they, their face should not be seen even. They are so fallen.
Indian man: But now they all afraid from your stick.
Prabhupada: Stick?
Indian man: Prabhupada, they all thought many times that "Prabhupada he criticize us." You know, they say. We said, "Yes, you are made to be criticized."
Devotee (3): Your stick is Bhagavad-gita As It Is.
Prabhupada: They say? They say?
Indian man: Oh, yes. In Mauritius there are many cults. So they invited us, I went to two, three. So they asked me that "We are coming many temple. You people, why not you come?" I said, "Well, whenever you invite us, we are ready to come, but you accept our philosophy." So they said, "How we can accept your philosophy? Prabhupada, he, wherever, he say that all the other are Mayavadi. All other are rascal." (laughter) "Well, Krsna has said that. Prabhupada is not doing that. Krsna said who don't accept Him, he is mudha; he is rascal. So Prabhupada is giving as it is, whatever Krsna has said." Oh, they were...
Prabhupada: No... [break] Krsna said, "The rascals do not surrender to Me." So as soon as we see somebody not Krsna conscious, we call him rascal. So what is the wrong there?
Indian man: It is not wrong.
Prabhupada: Krsna says, na ma duskrtino mudha prapadyante naradhamah. So we find out rascals, if he is not Krsna conscious. So what is our fault? Krsna says this is the test to find out who is a rascal. And who is rascal? Who is not Krsna conscious, he is a rascal. So if you are not Krsna conscious, you are a rascal. We have to see through the sastra characteristic of a rascal, that he is not Krsna conscious. That's all. We may be fool, but we take lesson from Bhagavad-gita. That's all. And from the lesson we understand you are rascal number one." That's all.
Indian man: Tilaka's(?) wife, she told me... She was very upset you know. One day she, when she came to see you and that one rascal yogi was there and he said that in the Vedas everything is mentioned that we can drink and woman and the man have equal right. Then you answered her, and she was also saying the same thing and you answered her, "Okay, if woman and the man have equal right, then why not your husband begot the children... Why not you begot the children in the womb of your husband?" And she was very upset, you know. She said, "Prabhupada sometimes say the things like that which are unreasonable, you know."
Prabhupada: It may require... No, I said that "If you are equal rights, then make some arrangement: sometimes you become pregnant; sometimes he becomes pregnant. Why there is not right, equal right?"
Indian man: She was telling me when... She... I said that "Prabhupada sometimes says these things that we feel all ashamed, you know, because..."
Devotee (2): The medicine is not always palatable for these people.
Prabhupada: But in speaking spiritual understanding we cannot make any compromise. What to speak of in Mauritius, in Chicago I told. There was great agitation in papers.
Harikesa: In the TV, on television.
Indian man: Same thing?
Devotee (2): In France also.
Prabhupada: They were very upset. And when I was coming, I think, in Chicago, in the airplane, one of the host girl, she was seeing... (laughter) I asked her to supply one 7-up. And, "I have no key." She was so angry. But all the captains and others, they gathered around me. (laughter)
Harikesa: I think that was the same stewardess who came in the back and asked us, "Why the Swamiji doesn't like women?"
Prabhupada: No, no, I don't say that I don't like women, but I cannot say that equal rights. How can I say? First of all show that you equal rights -- your husband becomes sometimes pregnant and then you become pregnant, alternately.
Aksayananda: That doesn't mean you don't like them.
Prabhupada: No, it is truth. I am speaking the truth, that "If you have equal right, then let your husband become pregnant. Make some arrangement."
Harikesa: Visakha was preaching to her. She said that "Actually we are less intelligent." (laughter) That started a big scandal...
Prabhupada: Yes. And that is Krsna consciousness. [break] They are in equal right, then... Nowadays, of course, they are thinking like that, that man should remain independent, and they'll have homosex, and the woman also independent and they will make some... This is most immoral things.
Indian man: If only people think that they have equal right...
Prabhupada: Where is equal right? Even in Russia there is no equal rights. They have created some of them are managers, and some of them are workers. Why? If equal rights, then everyone should be manager.
Harikesa: Well, in America they have women senators now.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Harikesa: Women senators, women are in charge of companies sometimes.
Indian man: No, in India there are two women. They are high commissioners of India to the foreign countries.
Prabhupada: No, that is possible. That it requires education. That is another... By nature the woman's body is different from man's.
Indian man: Women are subordinate.
Prabhupada: Not subordinate actually. The occupations are different. It does not mean... That is another mistake. Just like the leg is walking, and the head is directing, so although the occupation is different, both of them are important. We require the head and leg also. If simply head is there, if there is no leg, then who'll walk? This is the understanding, not equal. Everyone must have his separate duties to serve the whole. That is the arrangement. This is real understanding. The most important part of the body is head, but that does not mean the leg is not important. Leg is important in its work, and head is important in its work. So we require both, head and tail both, not that simply leg or simply head. But when we make comparative study, we can understand that head is more important than the leg. If you cut your leg, you can live, but if you cut your head, you'll die. Therefore the conclusion is: head is more important than the leg. Comparative study. Otherwise head is also required and leg is also required. You collect some flowers, nice flowers, and, add with it some green foliage, it becomes more beautiful. Simply flower is not so beautiful. When it is arrayed with some green foliage, then it becomes more beautiful. So we have to take in that sense. But comparatively, the flower is more important than the foliage. But the both of them are required.
Harikesa: The foliage also becomes beautiful because of the flower.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is God's creation. Just like these trees. They are condemned, but still, with trees we can make a beautiful garden and that is very enjoyable. That is God's arrangement. Even insignificant... Ksudrad api pradhanasya jayate paramam hitam. One is very insignificant and other is very important, but both of them combined together becomes beneficial. [break]
Visala: I remember over five years ago you telling me about, "If you read the first nine cantos of Srimad-Bhagavatam, you become fully Krsna conscious." Would you kindly tell me what does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?
Prabhupada: What do you understand, fully Krsna conscious?
Visala: What does it mean to be fully Krsna conscious?
Prabhupada: No, what you mean, first of all let me know.
Harikesa: What do you think fully Krsna concious means? You tell Prabhupada.
Visala: It's to see Krsna face to face?
Prabhupada: That means Krsna conscious? Everyone is seeing Krsna face to face. When you go to the temple Krsna is there, and you are seeing. Does it mean everyone is Krsna conscious?
Visala: No.
Prabhupada: Then what is the meaning of Krsna conscious?
Indian man: Brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na kanksati [Bg. 18.54].
Prabhupada: Hm, that is part of Krsna consciousness, brahma bhutah. Real Krsna consciousness is: "Krsna is master, I am servant." This is Krsna consciousness.
Visala: To understand that you're the servant and Krsna is the master. I see.
Prabhupada: When you fully understand, that is your Krsna... That is Krsna conscious. [break] So long you think that "I can also become like Krsna," then you are not Krsna conscious.
Visala: In other words, if you still have material desires you can't be fully Krsna conscious.
Prabhupada: Yes. That is the beginning of Krsna consciousness, anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11]. Make all your material desires zero.
Visala: Thank you very much.
Prabhupada: That is Krsna conscious. You should only desire to serve Krsna. [break] ...clear or not?
Visala: Very clear. Thank you very much.
Harikesa: What if a person doesn't desire material enjoyment, but still, there is so much dirt?
Prabhupada: Hm? Who is that person who has no material desires?
Harikesa: A person really wants to be Krsna conscious, but somehow or another, so much dirts gets in the way.
Prabhupada: Yes. Dirt means it is not yet zero. I said that all material desires should be made zero. Anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11].
Harikesa: As soon as the desires completely change, then everything else is purified.
Prabhupada: Yes. As Arjuna said, karisye vacana tava, nasto mohah: "Now my illusion is over. I agree to act as you say." This is Krsna conscious. Nasto moha smrtir labdh tvat prasadan madhusudana. [break] The moha is there. Moha means these desires are illusion, like dreaming. In dream we see so many things. They are all false. In dreaming I am seeing that somebody is coming to kill me but there is nobody, but still, I am dreaming. This is called moha. So when one is free from moha, then he's Krsna conscious. The whole material world is going on under such illusion. Therefore it is called maya. Hare Krsna. Thank you. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Jaya. So they are guests. They are coming. Krsna says everything practical. He never says that "You press your nose and everything will come." He never said like that. "You become a yogi by pressing your nose, and keep your head downward, and then you'll become perfect and everything will come." He never says. And Arjuna also never accepts anything impractical. That is Bhagavad-gita. As soon as Krsna said that "You practice yoga by this way " immediately Krsna said "My dear Krsna it is not possible, for me. I cannot control my mind." Vayor eva suduskara. "It is impossible as to control the air." If somebody says, "I shall control the air..." So these things are there in the Bhagavad-gita, all practical. Krsna was accepted the Supreme Lord by His practical instruction and practical features. They are not following Krsna themselves also. That is the difficulty. [break] What is going on here? [Break] Private. Huh?Indian man: Rudra-yajna. (Bengali)
Prabhupada: Somebody is exploiting. Rudra-yajna. [break] ...any mention of Rudra-yajna? In the Bhagavad-gita the word is yajna. Yajnarthat karmano 'nyatra. Where is Rudra-yajna? (Hindi)
Harikesa: How does one stop cheating in a world of cheats?
Prabhupada: This material world is meant for cheating. You cheat, and others will cheat you. That's all. This is material world. It is not "how?" If you inquire, "How it is cold?"... The season is cold. There is no question of how. The place is for cheating and cheaters. So there is no question, "How it is cheating?"
Harikesa: So you can't stop the cold.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Harikesa: You can't stop the cheaters.
Prabhupada: No. Yes, it is not possible. But you can do everything by becoming Krsna conscious. That is the advantage of Krsna consciousness. Krsna says, aham tvam sarva-papebhyo moksayisyami [Bg. 18.66]. You cannot get out of sinful action, but Krsna can do it. Therefore He says, "I'll get you released." You cannot get released; therefore He says, "I'll do that."
Harikesa: So bringing it to a practical platform...
Prabhupada: Practical means it will be done by Krsna. Your only business is to surrender to Krsna. You cannot do anything. And as soon as you think that "I shall be able to do it," then you are a rascal. Immediately you are rascal.
Harikesa: So only a fully surrendered soul can do everything perfectly.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Harikesa: A fully surrendered soul is the only one who can do things perfectly.
Prabhupada: He cannot do anything, even in his... Everything is to be done by Krsna. But he has to apply his intelligence by Krsna consciousness. Even if he is intelligent, he cannot do anything.
Harikesa: Except surrender.
Prabhupada: Yes. He can surrender, and Krsna will do everything. You have to act very sincerely under the direction of Krsna, and then the war will be successful, as Arjuna did.
Harikesa: So imperfect activity is a sign of lack of surrender.
Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...avasya raksibe krsna. Raksisyati iti visvasa-palanam. You work sincerely, devoutly, and have faith that "Krsna will save me from all dangers." Raksisyati iti visvasa-palanam. "I have surrendered to Krsna sincerely. Now Krsna will give me all protection." This faith, that is the beginning of devotional life. (aside:) Hare Krsna. Faith.
Harikesa: So this faith, is this sraddha or nistha?
Prabhupada: Sraddha. Beginning, sraddha. Then, when he is advanced, then he becomes fixed up. "Yes, Krsna is protecting me." [break] ...that here is some goddess Kali, and nobody is living here.
Harikesa: No, and then they worship in that temple. That's a temple there.
Prabhupada: Oh. (aside:) Hare Krsna. No, the road is, er, gate is closed. [break] People in general, they take that "There is no God, and if there is God, He is now dead." This is general impression.
Harikesa: There is one nice thing I saw on one wall. It says, "God is dead. Nietzche "And then right underneath it somebody wrote, "Nietzche is dead. God."
Prabhupada: Nietzche? Nietzche means?
Harikesa: Nietzche, that philosopher. He was the one who first...
Prabhupada: (Aside:) Hare Krsna. Jaya. Yes.
Harikesa: Nietzche first brought up the philosophy of "Everything is nothing," for the Western people. "It's all nothing. It all ultimately boils down to nothing. So there is no possibility of God."
Prabhupada: Sunyavadi. Sunyavadi. That is sunyavadi. Nirvisesa-sunyavadi. Sunyavadi, they say, "There is no God, and there is nothing, fact. Everything is combination of some illusory things." This is sunyavadi. And the Mayavadi, they say, "Yes, there is God, but He has no form." Therefore we have to kill both of them. Nirvisesa-sunyavad-pascatya-desa-tarine. The whole Western world are filled up with these sunyavadi and impersonalists. India is also nowadays, but there are, still there are devotees in the acarya-sampradaya. They are fighting against sunyavada and nirvisesa.
Harikesa: In South India I think a lot of the Ramanuja followers are.
Prabhupada: Yes. [break]
Aksayananda: If everything was void, then there would be no hope for living. So might as well die.
Prabhupada: No. By combination, permutation, you create, and if you don't want it, then avoid this combination. [break] Even in four o'clock time, visiting, if he comes at four o'clock, you let him come in. [break] ...Gurukula we require teachers for teaching the small children. So our, these girls, they cannot take this charge of teaching?
Aksayananda: Yes, one is already teaching now. One is already teaching children now, one girl.
Prabhupada: Who is he?
Aksayananda: Her name is Ruth. She's English. Every afternoon she teaches the children.
Prabhupada: Indian?
Aksayananda: No, English.
Gopala Krsna: There's also one in Bombay. She used to be a public school teacher in England. After the school is open she can come over here. And there's one in Mayapur, but she's teaching in Mayapur.
Prabhupada: Similarly, other girls, they can take up this.
Aksayananda: Yes. [break]
Prabhupada: ...our guest. Because somebody is guest, paying guest, therefore we shall admit anyone in any kind of dress?
Aksayananda: No.
Gopala Krsna: We don't admit people who look like hippies or something.
Aksayananda: That girl, I told her she had to wear a sari. And she did for some time, but then again she stopped.
Prabhupada: That I am speaking, that sa yadi kriyate raja.
Aksayananda: Due to habit.
Prabhupada: Sakrn nasnuta pahanam (?) That is the difficulty. It will be very bad example. People will think... They already thinking that "These are all hippies." That will minimize the prestige of the temple. [break] Jaipuria House they do not allow any hippies. You know that?
Gopala Krsna: Jaipuria does not allow any foreigners at all. They don't allow any foreigners at all, even if somebody is decently dressed.
Aksayananda: One boy came a couple of weeks ago. He had long hair. But the next day he came back and shaved up. He's a devotee now. He's doing nicely.
Prabhupada: That's nice.
Aksayananda: So they will still come. They can become devotees. It's all right then.
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. [break]
Aksayananda: ...doing, Srila Prabhupada. If they come and they have long hair but if there's a chance they might become devotees, I tell them they must tie up their hair in such a way that you cannot see it.
Prabhupada: That's all right. If many comes like that to become devotee, then it becomes a devotee place, er, hippie place. You give them chance to become a devotee. In the meantime, it will be known as a hippie resort.
Harikesa: That's always been a problem here.
Prabhupada: It is no problem. You can allow for three days only. If he does not change his habit, then he must go.
Aksayananda: Yes. all right. [break]
Prabhupada: ...was in the beginning allowing, but they saw some disadvantage. Therefore they have stopped. [break] ...our Dhananjaya?
Gopala Krsna: He's sick.
Prabhupada: Every morning he is sick.
Harikesa: He had typhoid.
Prabhupada: Typhoid?
Harikesa: Yes. (end)

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: This is called hog life, how to maintain this body. Kastan kaman. Kaman means necessities of life. Very, with great difficulty... [break] ...kaman. Life can be easily maintained by agriculture and cow protection. No. They will start big, big mills, factories, motor tires, cars, instruments. Kastan kaman. In the Bhagavad-gita it is called ugra-karma, fierce... (aside) Hare Krsna. Fierceful activities.Vraja-vasi: Haribol!
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Kastan kaman. Unnecessarily creating problems. [break] ...one after another, one after another. Formerly paper was used only for Vedic knowledge. Now the paper used for so many useless newspaper, volumes and volumes and jasusi(?), unnecessarily creating agitation of the mind. And if you explain these things they will say, "This is all primitive ideas." Modern ideas means one must work very hard day and night to get a little piece of capati. Hm? What is the answer.
Gopala Krsna: If we don't work hard they say, "You are a burden on society.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Gopala Krsna: If a person doesn't work hard day and night they say, "You are just living on society."
Prabhupada: That I am explaining. The day and night is that pig is working. That I am explaining. Then what is the difference between the pig and me if I am also working hard like that pig? Huh?
Gopala Krsna: There's no difference.
Prabhupada: Then why you say you are advanced civilization? That is forbidden. Kastan kaman na arhati. It is not desirable; it is not good. You are given this body different from this pig because you will live peacefully and happily. Why should you accept kastan kaman, so hardship? Actually they do not want to work hard. Otherwise why the proprietor, the capitalist, they leave the factory and go to a solitary place? Why does he go?
Gopala Krsna: They don't find any happiness even in the hard work.
Prabhupada: The other worker, he is seeing that "This rascal has engaged us in hard work and he is enjoying. So drive him out. Kill him." This is communism. Everyone wants that, comfort, peacefully living. Therefore this civilization, to work hard, is condemned. If hard work is desirable why the capitalists avoiding? Hm? What is answer?
Upendra: They say they worked hard to get there.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Upendra: They worked hard to get there.
Prabhupada: "To get there" means?
Upendra: To get to their position they worked hard.
Prabhupada: What is their position?
Upendra: Of relaxation.
Prabhupada: Relaxing. I am relaxing. Why you are inducing me? I am relaxing. Then why you are inducing me to work hard? I am already relaxing. Chant Hare Krsna and take little prasada. That's all. Why you are inducing me to work hard?
Brahmananda: They say you have to earn your relaxation.
Prabhupada: But earn or not earn, I am enjoying relaxation.
Brahmananda: You're not entitled unless you work very hard.
Prabhupada: Oh. That is nonsense.
Upendra: In America they say you have to pay for freedom.
Prabhupada: No, freedom, if I have got already, why shall I pay? I have already paid. Why you're inducing? I am already enjoying. Why you are inducing me to work hard? I have paid for it. By my karma in my previous life I have already paid for that; therefore I am enjoying.
Gopala Krsna: They don't believe in the law of karma.
Prabhupada: Therefore they are rascals. Rascal. This is a rascal civilization. Rascal civilization: one side, they say contraceptive; another side, they will encourage woman to marry three times a week. This is their civilization. If you want stop population why you are inducing "Indulge in sex life"? Stop sex life -- brahmacari. Everything is contradictory. And it is all sense gratification, based on sense gratification.
Gopala Krsna: If a person is not satisfying his senses they think he is crazy.
Prabhupada: But where is your sense satisfied? You are crazy. You are repeatedly being kicked by nature, that your senses will never be satisfied. Still, you are trying for that. Even the old man of eighty years old, he is going to the nightclub. Where is sense satis... When his senses will be satisfied? (aside) Jaya. Relaxation. If somebody is relaxing, chanting, they will induce, "Oh, you are escaping."
Brahmananda: "Misery loves company."
Prabhupada: What is that?
Brahmananda: That's a saying, that if someone is feeling misery, he wants other people to also enjoy the misery.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Brahmananda: No one wants to suffer alone.
Prabhupada: Cutting the tail of the jackal. (Bengali) "My tail is cut, so your tail must be cut." This is a fashion. (pause) That is practical. The world is working so hard but where is the peace and happiness?
Brahmananda: It's coming.
Prabhupada: (laughs) When it will come? That is unknown.
Brahmananda: Maybe at the end of this century.
Prabhupada: And at the end of your life. Just like insurance policy. You'll be happy after death. "You go on paying now, work hard, go on paying the premium and you'll be happy after death." This is insurance policy. And I am going to be a dog after death, and how he'll be happy? Just see.
Indian man (1): It is evident that miseries are growing darker and darker.
Prabhupada: That must be because you are under nature's law. How you can avoid? As you are working, you will get the result. Karmana daiva-netrena [SB 3.31.1]. There is superior power to supervise how you are working.
Indian man (2): Karmana baddhyate jantur vidyaya...
Prabhupada: Yes. Karmana baddhyate. They do not know. Poor fund of knowledge. Rascals. Mudha. Krsna comes to inform these rascals, "You are all duskrtina, mudha." That is Krsna's declaration. Na mam duskrtino mu... "Therefore surrender unto Me." This is the whole purpose.
Indian Man (2):
bahuni me vyatitani
janmani tava carjuna
tany aham veda sarvani
na tvam vettha parantapa
Prabhupada: That is the difference between Krsna and Arjuna. Although Arjuna is... Birth after birth, he is friend of Krsna, nitya-siddha. Still, he forgets, what to speak of others. Bahuni me janmani tava carjuna. That means, "We are friends always. So you also appear; I also appear. But the difference is you forget; I don't forget. That is difference between you and Me. You also don't forget. That is for limited time. But the consciousness is the same. Only difference is that My consciousness is unlimited; your consciousness is limited. That is difference." This understanding is aham brahmasmi. My consciousness and Krsna's consciousness, that is fact. But Krsna's consciousness is everywhere; my consciousness is within myself. That's all. The Mayavadi interprets, yena sarvam idam tatah: "One who is expanded everywhere, pervaded." But I am not pervading everywhere.
Dhrstaketu: They say when you become liberated then you become..., then you pervade everywhere. It's just that... They say that just now, in this position...
Prabhupada: So when you will be liberated? What is the standard of liberation?
Dhrstaketu: By performing austerities, by studying the...
Prabhupada: That's all right. What is the standard?
Dhrstaketu: When I merge, when I lose my identity, when I don't...
Prabhupada: That means you forget. You forget everything. Then how you will be liberated? Whatever little consciousness was there, that is finished. Then how you become liberated? Whatever you had, that is also finished. Eh? Then how you become liberated?
Harikesa: But what we are forgetting is just illusion anyway.
Prabhupada: That is liberation. Then I kill you, you forget everything -- liberation. (laughter) What is the meaning of liberation? They do not know even the meaning of liberation.
Harikesa: To get rid of all these miseries.
Prabhupada: That you can do. I can kill you; you get rid of all miseries. Finished. You are finished; your miseries are finished. That's all.
Brahmananda: It doesn't matter whether you live or you die because it is all one.
Prabhupada: Well, let me kill you. That's all right. It will be great beneficial to you.
Indian man (1): To my opinion, we are more liberated in... (indistinct).
Prabhupada: Your opinion, my opinion. We have to consider the fact. (Vraja-vasi passes by, singing) This is jivan ko sabadiya tomara. This is surrender, that he is singing, jivan ko sabadiya: "When I surrender unto Your lotus feet." That is surrender. This is liberation. Just like the child fully surrendered to the parent, he is liberated. He has no anxiety. He is confident "My parents are there. Whatever he'll do, that's all right for me." That is liberation.
Indian man (1): We can become free from all anxieties.
Prabhupada: Yes, that is liberation. If you are filled up with anxieties where is your liberation? That is not liberation.
Dhrstaketu: They will also say that this condition of being one with the Supreme is also...
Prabhupada: How you become one? If Krsna or the consciousness is there but you lose your consciousness, why you become one?
Harikesa: Well, it's not exactly that we lose consciousness but we merge into the supreme consciousness.
Prabhupada: Supreme consciousness?
Harikesa: Then we become God.
Prabhupada: No. You cannot. Then why you are different now?
Harikesa: It's my lila. (laughter)
Prabhupada: Then if it is lila, then why you are undergoing austerity? That is also lila. If it is lila, then why you are trying to get out of it by practicing austerity?
Harikesa: Maharaja Rsabhadeva performed austerity.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Harikesa: Rsabhadeva, he performed austerity.
Prabhupada: No, what...? I do not follow what you say.
Brahmananda: He's saying that Rsabhadeva performed austerity, so therefore I am performing austerity.
Prabhupada: You are performing but what is Rsabhadeva's position?
Brahmananda: He never claimed to merge with the supreme consciousness.
Dhananjaya: But the whole thing is that the supreme consciousness is unembodied and we are embodied right now. So when we attain supreme consciousness we also become unembodied.
Prabhupada: How you become embodied if you are supreme? Who made you embodied if you are supreme? Then who made you embodied, he is supreme. You are not supreme. You did not like to be embodied; therefore you are trying to be bodyless. But who made you embodied? Then that he or she is supreme. You are not supreme.
Dhrstaketu: I put myself in this condition so that I can enjoy getting out of it.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Dhrstaketu: I put myself in this condition of illusion so that I can enjoy being liberated.
Prabhupada: And so you put yourself to be kicked by me and enjoy. Just test what is the enjoyment of being kicked.
Dhananjaya: But without pain how can you experience pleasure?
Prabhupada: You get this experience, how it is pleasure? I kick and you enjoy?
Dhrstaketu: The idea is that after experiencing the suffering of this material world then liberation will be very...
Prabhupada: Why there is suffering, material? You are supreme; why it is suffering for you?
Dhrstaketu: Well, so that when I...
Prabhupada: So, there is no "so that." Why you are suffering?
Brahmananda: It's suffering only for those...
Prabhupada: If it is your lila, then you are suffering. What is this nonsense of "my lila." Suffering?
Brahmananda: The suffering is only for those who haven't..., who don't understand that they are supreme.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Brahmananda: Those who don't understand, they are the ones who suffer, but I don't suffer.
Prabhupada: So it is better to remain in that ignorance. Just like the hogs and dogs, they do not understand that this is suffering. But we can understand that this is suffering.
Brahmananda: Yes. To be a dog, that's all right because the dog doesn't suffer. He is enjoying.
Prabhupada: No, no, why you are doing austerity? Remain as dog and cat. Therefore you are mudha. You do not know what is suffering, what is enjoyment. Mudho nabhijanati mam ebhyah param avyayam. Therefore one who is intelligent, jnani, bahunam jan... After suffering in this way and talking all nonsense, when he comes to the real knowledge, then he surrenders. Bahunam janmanam ante jnanavan mam prapadyate [Bg. 7.19]. That is knowledge.
Indian man (1): Kamadinam katina katidha palita durnidesah.
Prabhupada: Ah. When he comes to this awareness, that "I have simply suffered and I wanted to maintain myself by jugglery of words," then he comes to the real knowledge.
Dhrstaketu: So the Mayavadis' philosophy is actually the supreme illusion.
Prabhupada: Yes. Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu has forbidden. Mayavadi-bhasya sunile haya sarva nasa [Cc. Madhya 6.169]. One is finished if he follows the Mayavada philosophy. He is doomed. He will never be able to accept the real philosophy. He will be absorbed in that false philosophy. This is Mayavadi's position. Mayavadi haya krsne aparadhi. They are aparadhi, offender. Therefore they shall remain perpetually in ignorance and think himself, "I am God." This is Mayavadi's position. Vivekananda preached openly that "Why you are thinking that you are sinful? You are God." He preached like that.
Brahmananda: The Christians, they have a concept of sin. So when Vivekananda went to America he was telling them, "No, you forget this concept. Whatever you do, it's all right because you are God." They were surprised.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Gopala Krsna: That's why they liked him.
Prabhupada: No, no. They did not like. The Christian priests did not like him. They condemned him, "Oh, you are come from India, and you are speaking nonsense, this?" In those hundred years the Christian priests were conscious: "But how is this? From India he has come and he's talking like nonsense?" They questioned in Chicago speech.
Dhrstaketu: He's just fanning the fires of atheism.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Harikesa: This Mayavadi philosophy, is this...?
Prabhupada: They are atheist. They are first-class atheist, more than the Buddhist. Veda na maniya bauddha haila nastika. The Buddhists, they did not accept Vedic authorities; therefore they are considered as nastika. But vedasraya nastikya vada. These rascals, they accept Vedas and preaches atheism. So they are more dangerous than the Buddhists. This is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's version. (aside) Hare Krsna. Bauddha ke adhika: "They are more dangerous than the Buddhists." The Buddhists, although they are supposed to be atheists, they worship the Deity Lord Buddha. But they say it is maya. And more advanced than these atheists.
Brahmananda: The Mayavadis.
Prabhupada: More... Not advanced. More degraded. These atheists, they have been taught to worship the form of Lord Buddha, and Buddha is incarnation of Krsna, so one day they will be delivered. But these rascals will never be delivered.
Prthu-putra: I read in one of your books so many names about different groups of these Mayavadi philosophers. Are they still existing today and active?
Prabhupada: Yes. Anyone who thinks godlessness, he is Mayavadi, that's all. Anyone. All these impersonalists, they are all Mayavadis. And mostly they are now impersonalists.
Dhrstaketu: So although we can't see it with our material eyes, their position is very precarious.
Prabhupada: We have no eyes to see. We see through Krsna. As Krsna sees, we see. This is Krsna conscious. We are not perfect. Our position is that we are not perfect. But we are perfect so long we follow Krsna, that's all. Just like I am blind man. I am not perfect. But if you have got eyes, if you take me I follow you. Then I am perfect. Krsna assures that "You surrender to Me and I will make you free from all dangers," and we accept Krsna. That's all. Our method is very easy. The child is walking, unable to walk, falling down. The parents say, father says, "My dear child, just catch my hand." Then he's safe. These Mayavadis, they go against the verdict of God. God says that "The living entities are My part and parcel," and they say, "I am God." So that is their foolishness. Part and parcel... Krsna says, mamaivamso jiva-bhutah [Bg. 15.7]. Otherwise why God says, "Surrender unto Me," if you are equal with Him? Why God is asking, "Surrender unto Me"? You are not equal. You are rascal. You are claiming that "I am equal." Otherwise there is no question of surrender. "You surrender unto Me." And this knowledge of surrender comes, Krsna says, bahunam janmanam: "This rascal is always thinking 'I am God, God, God.' This rascaldom is finished after many, many births, this ignorance." Then he surrenders. How the living entity is equal with God?
Brahmananda: Return?
Dhrstaketu: Of course, they may say that "Krsna is just an ordinary man like me and therefore He is asking..."
Prabhupada: Therefore you are rascal. Krsna is ordinary man, and He is lifting the hill.
Brahmananda: Well, that's just a story in a book.
Prabhupada: He may be story for you. You may not believe that you have got a father but we are not mad. You can say, "To have a father is a story," but mother says, "No, you have your father." She is authority. You can say, "Oh, it is story."
Gopala Krsna: They want historical evidence for everything.
Brahmananda: Yes, why doesn't Krsna come and do it now?
Prabhupada: He is not your father's servant, that he will come by your order. He's the supreme master. Krsna is doing the same thing still, but you have no eyes to see. Krsna is doing. How this Krsna consciousness movement is spreading all over the world?
Brahmananda: Why doesn't God force me to surrender?
Prabhupada: No. That Krsna is not a nonsense like you. Because Krsna has given you little freedom He does not want to touch it. That is Krsna. What He gives, He never takes it back. It is not a nonsensical award that "I give you sometimes; then I take it away." Krsna does not do such. He has given you little freedom, so you can use it. Yathecchasi tatha kuru [Bg. 18.63], Krsna says in the Bhagavad..., "Whatever you like, you do." That freedom is taken by nature. You are human being. If you do not engage yourself in Krsna consciousness, then nature will withdraw this privilege and you'll become a dog. Krsna does not take, but His agent, maya, will take it away. Just like the police is the agent of the king or the government. The government does not care what you are doing. But if you do something criminal the police will punish you.
Brahmananda: But we're going to change the laws of nature.
Prabhupada: That is another foolishness. (laughter) That is also replied, daivi hy esa gunamayi mama maya dura... [Bg. 7.14]. "You cannot do that, my dear sir. You rascal, you are thinking like that. That is not possible."
Gopala Krsna: But they say they've already made so much progress.
Prabhupada: You go on making progress but you will never come to the ultimate goal. You can go on foolishly. That's all right. Just like they made progress, United Nations. What progress they have made?
Harikesa: They made a nice building.
Prabhupada: That's right. (laughs) There are so many buildings.
Indian man (1): But they've been going to be assassinated.
Prabhupada: When I go that building, United Nations, I see how they are wasting money. Yes, I see.
Gopala Krsna: They have a very big budget, United Nations, billions of...
Prabhupada: Big, big. So many publications, so many big...
Indian man (1): They make everybody un-united.
Prabhupada: Huh? Yes. Disunited.
Prthu-putra: You have written in one of your books that they are just becoming more flags instead of less.
Prabhupada: Yes. Yes. They are increasing flags. Instead of one flag, they increasing flags. And they are trying for the last how many years? Thirty years?
Brahmananda: Yes.
Gopala Krsna: To stop wars. But they haven't stopped a single war.
Dhrstaketu: But if Krsna is the Supreme and I should surrender unto Him, then why is it so hard to find out this knowledge? Why is it that only in the human form of life... Why is it so difficult to come to this knowledge if...
Prabhupada: Because you are rascal. For rascal everything is difficult. Easy thing is made difficult by rascals. That is the proof that you are rascal. By nature one is supposed to surrender to the parents. This is easy. Why do you do not do this? This is natural. Just like you have surrendered to me. Why? Because you think I am superior, you have to take knowledge from me. So if you have to accept some superior for your guidance, how you can deny surrendering? You see, brahmacari, he is being taught dandavat sirasi, by touching the head. Yesterday we were talking of that brahmacari? That is the instruction. Who is this boy?
Harikesa: He's Kundali. He just came from New York.
Prabhupada: Oh.
Gopala Krsna: He just came from New York. He's from the West... He's a Commonwealth citizen. He's from the West Indies. He says he'll stay in India for the rest of his life.
Prabhupada: Oh, that's nice. So you are going to the magistrate? You have calculated?
Saurabha: Ten thousand bags.
Prabhupada: Ten thousand bags. No, I wanted to construct this building with bricks.
Saurabha: Yes, but we have to make some slabs and some...
Prabhupada: Slabs? So still you will require ten thousand?
Saurabha: No. If we do with mud, then it will be much less.
Prabhupada: Not mud. The mortar means sand and cement.
Gunarnava: No plaster?
Prabhupada: No, no, plastering also.
Saurabha: No plastering.
Prabhupada: No, plastering also.
Saurabha: But it comes to about eight thousand bags if I do the whole land like that around. That is the full thing, two stories. It comes to about eight thousand. And then there's always some extra for finalizing the floors...
Prabhupada: No, no. I don't want to use this iron.
Saurabha: No, we don't require iron.
Prabhupada: Simply brick. So in that way you still require ten thousand?
Saurabha: We require about eight thousand but it's best to apply for ten thousand. If we only need five thousand, we take that. They will give us that allotment.
Prabhupada: Do it. [break]
Dhrstaketu: When Krsna would play His flute then the airplanes would be there.
Prabhupada: Eh?
Dhrstaketu: When Krsna would play His flute then the airplanes would come and...
Prabhupada: Where is Krsna playing flute?
Dhrstaketu: In Vrndavana?
Prabhupada: Oh. Then why the airplanes do not come Delhi? (laughter) (pause) He is godless and we have to fight against them. Just see our position. We have to fight with the whole world.
Indian man (1): Number of forces will increase day by day.
Prabhupada: Huh?
Indian man (1): Number of forces are increasing day by day, they will fight adequately.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Gopala Krsna: But you have done it singlehanded, Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: Single-handed, double-handed, doesn't matter -- if Krsna is there in the background. Arjuna fought singlehanded. Where is Pranava? (Hindi)
Indian man (1): (Hindi) Everyone was very much satisfied.
Prabhupada: That is wanted.
Indian man (1): Our Prabhupada is kind enough to make so many swans like us to remove away all the evils of the world.
Prabhupada: (aside) Jaya. Hare Krsna. (end)

Want To Imitate Rama

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: These four principles will make so many bogus babas as useless, simply if you follow these four principles. [break]Aksayananda: ...that Ramacandra ate meat. Some people have said to me...
Prabhupada: Ramacandra can eat you and the whole universe. (laughter) Can you do that? By... Even Ramacandra used to eat meat, so you can simply imitate for meat-eating. But why don't you imitate how to construct a bridge over the ocean? Why don't you say that Ramacandra constructed a bridge on the ocean. Can you do that?
Aksayananda: No.
Prabhupada: Then you are rascal.
Aksayananda: But in the Bhagavad-gita it says, yad yad acarati sresthas [Bg. 3.21]. Whatever the great men do, you must follow in their footsteps.
Prabhupada: Yes. By their instruction, not by their activities. You should follow the instruction, not the activities. Has Krsna said anything that "You also act rasa-lila like Me?" Has said?
Aksayananda: Never.
Prabhupada: Then how you can? These rascals, these Mayavadis, they play rasa-lila. [break] ...acarati sresthas means that srestha is ordinary person, but not Bhagavan. Bhagavan can act any way. And still, Bhagavan has never instructed you that "You imitate Me in raising the Govardhana Hill." Has He said like that, that "You also raise the Govardhana Hill like Me"? [break] ...orders man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam. That is for you. Always think of Him. Always become His devotee. Worship Him. Offer your obeisances. That's all. That is for you. Yasodamayi was asking Krsna, "My dear Krsna, can you bring the slipper of Your father?" He could not. He was a small child. Still, with great difficulty He could raise that. But the person who can raise the Govardhana Hill, He was feeling difficulty to raise the slipper? Why? If at that time He becomes like Govardhana, Giridhari, then the lila between father and son will be damaged. He plays just like a child. Although He can raise even in that age, to raise the hill. One should understand Krsna. Everyone compares Him with ordinary man: "Krsna has done this? Then I shall do." Krsna has done so many other things. Why don't you do it? This rascal... Anyone who imitates Krsna on the plea that "Krsna has played this; therefore we shall do." He can do anything. He can eat meat and He can eat the whole universe. That was shown to His mother: "Mother, you are angry because I have eaten dirt. Now see within My mouth the whole universe is in. So what is the question of dirt and sea and ocean? I can eat everything." [break] ...sam na dosaya. Just like this sun. It dry up this urine. It is not infected. But you lick up this urine and let us see how powerful you are. Tejasam na dosaya. Who is powerful, he can do anything and everything, whatever he likes. You cannot do that. [break] ...example. This urine, within an hour it will be dried up. How it is dried up? Due to the sun. But the sun is not polluted. But you try to dry up and see the result.
Hari-sauri: Srila Prabhupada? Wasn't it Lord Ramacandra's purpose to actually display by His activity how a perfect human being should act?
Prabhupada: Who said?
Hari-sauri: Well, I understood that that verse, yad yad acarati sresthas [Bg. 3.21], that was referring to Lord Ramacandra.
Prabhupada: Everyone is referred, but whatever Ramacandra says, you should do that. You should not imitate. There are two words: following and imitating. Imitation is not good. Following is good. Yad yad acarati zres... You can... That I have already explained. Can you construct a bridge on the ocean? You are claiming, yad yad acarati. Can you do this? Then why do you say like that? You cannot imitate. You can follow only. "Because Ramacandra ate meat, so I am eating meat. I become Ramacandra." And why don't you construct a bridge on the ocean?
Aksayananda: So actually, perfect kings, they may have eaten meat? Perfect kings...
Prabhupada: No, perfect king must follow the Vedic injunction.
Aksayananda: They would never eat meat, even though they are ksatriyas.
Prabhupada: No, ksatriyas are allowed. That is by hunting, not otherwise. Or yajna. Everything is there in the sastra. [break] ...candra, even He was eating meat, is there any instance in the temple Ramacandra is offered meat? Then why do you claim, "Ramacandra used to eat meat, therefore I shall eat"? All rascals. Krsna, He ate fire, khandava-dana. But what He asked you to offer? Does He says that "You offer Me fire"? He says, patram puspam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayacchati [Bg. 9.26]. Does He say that "You give Me fire. I shall eat"?
Aksayananda: You mean He eats fire in His representation as the fire-god?
Prabhupada: No representation. As He is. He never assumed as fire-god. He was boy and playing, and there was fire and He ate it. That is God, not that He became a fire-god. What is fire-god? Thousands of fire-gods are staying on the nail of His feet. Why He should become a fire-god? Mahat-padam. Krsna's another name is mahat-padam. The whole energy of material world is on His feet. Samasrit ye pada-pallava-plava mahat-pada punya-yaso murareh. So they attend mangala-arati?
Gunarnava: Yes.
Prabhupada: They do?
Devotee: Yes, they do.
Prabhupada: Very good. [break] ...there are cycles. The cycles are more dangerous than the motor car.
Hamsaduta: Because you can't hear them.
Prabhupada: No, no, hear... Gives you dash. You see? From the behind. Hare Krsna. [break] ...God, they do like that. They give this example, "In such and such yajna, rsis were eating meat; therefore we shall eat meat." In the Ramakrishna Mission, sannyasis, they say like that. (end)

Sex Propaganda Can't Stop Death

Vrndavana, September 6, 1975
download  Players

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Prabhupada: Brahmacarya. Brahmacarya means completely cessation from sex life. This is brahmacarya. Tapasya begins, austerity. This is the greatest austerity, to cease sex. Tapasa brahmacarya. Our Vedic civilization, the boys are trained how to become brahmacari from the very beginning of life.Indian: (Hindi)
Prabhupada: Ha. [break] ... putraka yena suddhyet sattva. Our existentional position should be purified. How? Tapo, by tapasya. Tapo divyam putraka yena suddhyet sattva [SB 5.5.1]. "And we are enjoying life. Why we should undergo tapasya?" And you are enjoying, but you are not enjoying; you are suffering. Even if you think you are enjoying, there are so many sufferings. That the foolish people, they do not know. Just like a healthy man, he thinks, "I am enjoying," but he does not see that even he is now healthy, he will be an old man, he will be attacked with disease, he will die, and still he thinks, "I am healthy." Janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi-duhkha-dosanudarsanam [Bg. 13.9]. Therefore the intelligent man will see that "Where is my enjoyment if I am going to die? I don't want to die, but I am going to die." That is sure, as sure as anything. And still the rascal will think that "I am happy." He will become old man, he will be attacked with disease, and still he is thinking that he is happy. Apart from this, there are so many other sufferings, but he thinks that he is happy. And that happiness is centered around sex. That's all. Yan maithunadi-grhamedhi-sukham hi tuccham [SB 7.9.45]. Their only happiness is sex. Therefore in the Western countries they are simply trying to increase the sex enjoyment. That's all. Is it not?
Devotees: Yes.
Prabhupada: The whole civilization is based on how to enjoy sex very nicely. This is their basic principle of civilization.
Brahmananda: Always on the best-seller charts of the books there is always some book about how to enjoy sex.
Prabhupada: Just see. There are books here also, Kama-sastra. So sex enjoyment also you cannot enjoy unlimitedly. Then you will become impotent. Then you will have to call your wife as "mother," as some saintly person did. He was indulging in sex in his young age, and when he was married he saw himself impotent, and therefore he invented some way that "I have realized Brahman. I can call my wife also 'mother.' " And he became famous -- "Oh, he is so advanced. He has learned how to..." But in the history we will not find this. Even Vyasadeva had his wife, but he never said his wife, "mother."
Brahmananda: Actually you're supposed to see other women as mother.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Brahmananda: But not one's own wife.
Prabhupada: No. Para-daresu. Matravat para-daresu. That is the injunction of the sas... Other's wife. Not that "Oh, my wife is also my mother." Just see. This lunacy is going on, and this lunatic man is taken as incarnation of God. This is going on. This homosex propaganda is another side of impotency. So that is natural. If you enjoy too much, then you become impotent.
Brahmananda: They are trying to make that more and more accepted in America, homosex.
Prabhupada: Yes. The churches accept. It is already law.
Nitai: This women's liberation movement, the leaders are also homosexual. They're lesbians.
Prabhupada: (laughs) Just see. Hare Krsna. The whole world is on the verge of ruination. Kali-yuga. [break]
Brahmananda: ...become ruined. The world is on the verge of ruination, but it doesn't become ruined; so therefore they think, "Oh, it doesn't matter. We can go on."
Prabhupada: They do not know what is the meaning of ruination. [break] ...so many problems. Still it is not on the verge of ruination?
Brahmananda: It's on the verge.
Prabhupada: That's all right. But why you are very much disturbed with so many problems?
Dhananjaya : They always take the brighter side.
Prabhupada: No. They are discussing, "There will be no more petrol. There will be no more this, no more that."
Brahmananda: So they are thinking, "Well, then we'll get the sun power. Then we'll get this and we'll get that."
Prabhupada: Well, that is the problem. It is not that "Theoretically here is a problem. I will solve it like this. I'll..." That is not solution of problem. Problem is there. When you actually make solution, then... This is madness, theorizing, "We shall solve the problem like this." They are wasting public money in so many ways. [break] They do not know what is real problem. The real problem is presented by Krsna: janma-mrtyu-jara-vyadhi [Bg. 13.9]. That they do not care, although they do not want it. That's a fact. It is a problem because they do not want it. But they do not take it as serious problem. This is foolishness.
Brahmananda: President Ford, he was almost killed.
Prabhupada: Accha? What about?
Brahmananda: Some woman... He was mingling in the crowd for the election, and some woman came up to him. She was two feet away from him, and she took out of her purse a loaded pistol, and she was to go like this, and then she was...
Prabhupada: Captured.
Brahmananda: Yes.
Nayanabhirama: He was going to shake her hand.
Prabhupada: Just see.
Brahmananda: So the president said, "Oh, this is simply a distraction." He was trying to say it wasn't important.
Prabhupada: What was the cause?
Brahmananda: She is a member of a group, a fanatical group in California. I don't know what... The Manson group? Charles Manson? Who is that group? This man killed about six people.
Prabhupada: Prominent.
Brahmananda: And I think this man has many wives. He has about two dozen wives. These are all his wives. He's in jail now. Life sentence. [break]
Prabhupada: There is no problem.
Brahmananda: Yes. He was saying, "Oh, it's just a distraction." [break]
Prabhupada: ...the President's life is not safe, and there is no problem. What to speak of others.
Dhananjaya: An intelligent man will go completely insane because he can't solve the problems...
Prabhupada: The solution is there.
Dhananjaya: ...without referring to the Vedic philosophy.
Prabhupada: The solution is there. Take it. Take Krsna consciousness.
Dhananjaya: They're so much implicated by sex life.
Prabhupada: Yes. Gradually they'll become ... understand that this is not good. Therefore grhastha asrama is allowed under rules and regulation. The purpose is to restrict sex life.
Brahmananda: The wife of the President, she recently said that sex life before marriage is good because it will reduce the divorce rate.
Prabhupada: Yes. If everyone is prostitute then where is the question of divorce? (laughter)
Nitai: There's also no question of marriage.
Prabhupada: Yes. And that is going on. (end)

Knowledge to find the Source

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Aksayananda Swami: Price has risen and quality has lessened. (pause) Prabhupada, you know the ISKCON centres you have started they are just like actually Vaikuntha, they are so nice. Even the Gaudiya Matha centres were not so nice. Just like an installation of Vaikuntha. They're so clean and nice. (indistinct) ...help becoming devotees by visiting your centers. Becomes almost automatic.Prabhupada: Follow the regulative principles, it will remain, always Vaikuntha. Otherwise again material world.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes.
Prabhupada: Free hotel. (laughs) That's all. And free hotel will not endure.
Aksayananda Swami: No.
Prabhupada: Svayam eva sphuraty adah. By service spirit beginning with tongue Hare Krsna. Then everything is revealed, Vaikuntha atmosphere... Sethji has not come out.
Aksayananda Swami: Of course we accept, ah, when you tell us to chant sixteen rounds, we accept that figure as being, in perfect faith, that you're the acarya, but ah, what if others we wanted to convince, is there any, any ah, sastr... Is there any Vedic verse we can refer to to corroborate that at least they must chant sixteen rounds. Or that many number of names?
Prabhupada: No. In the sastra it is not said like that...
Aksayananda Swami: I see.
Prabhupada: It is said, sankhy-purvakah...
Aksayananda Swami: Sankhy-purvakah.
Prabhupada: You must fix up.
Aksayananda Swami: Counting.
Prabhupada: You must fix up in numerical strength.
Aksayananda Swami: I see.
Prabhupada: Whatever you can.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes.
Prabhupada: But I have fixed up sixteen rounds, because you cannot do.
Aksayananda Swami: That's all we can do.
Prabhupada: (smiling, touch of irony) Yes. That also is difficult.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. (laughing)
Prabhupada: Otherwise, Haridasa Thakura was chanting 300,000. So, That is not possible. You should not imitate, but whatever you fix up you must do.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. Yes.
Prabhupada: That is wanted.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. I was told in the beginning you asked the first disciples to chant 64 rounds?
Prabhupada: Yes. I asked them to chant 32?
Prabhupada: (grinning) Hm.
Aksayananda Swami: Is that correct?
Prabhupada: Sankhy-purvaka nama-gana-natibhih. Sankhya purva, or numerical strength must be there. And you should follow rigidly.
Aksayananda Swami: So if, if we are serious and sincere, it means that that sixteen will increase to, ah, to continuously chanting.
Prabhupada: You can do also now. It's not that because I've finished sixteen rounds...
Aksayananda Swami: No.
Prabhupada: You can increase. But that sixteen must be finished.
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. (pause) What I mean is, that's to bring us to the platform of chanting constantly. That at least we do that numerical number, finally we may be able to do, if we're fortunate to chant constantly day and night.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Aksayananda Swami: Some of the members of the Gaudiya Matha who say they chant 64 rounds, they are unable to ah, ahh, refrain from sleeping too much, from eating too much.
Prabhupada: How do you know that he's eating too much?
Aksayananda Swami: I was staying at one about a year ago. When I was travelling I stayed a few days at some of the places. At night they would have a whole meal...
Prabhupada: Hm.
Aksayananda Swami: ...big, big meal. They would be sitting eating for one hour. Then in the morning they were all tired and very dull.
Prabhupada: Huh huh. (laughing)
Aksayananda Swami: Then again at lunch time and after that again sleep. They couldn't do anything else, there was no time for preaching or for distributing books or... But yet they were supposed to be doing 64 rounds. That was in Vishakapatnam.
Prabhupada: Oh.
Aksayananda Swami: They were all very fat.
Prabhupada: What is time now?
Devotee: Five to seven. ...here now. I've never been there but I heard there are a lot.. reports Cit-sukhananda prabhu is there now.
Prabhupada: Haa.
Aksayananda Swami: ...(Gaudiya Matha) devotees, your godbrothers and the older devotees are all looking to be pretty alright, but the younger ones, our age, they are unable to continue...
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna (to a bypasser).
Aksayananda Swami: ...keep the standard. And many of them they have tried to come and join us.
Prabhupada: Ha?
Aksayananda Swami: Many of them, they ask to join us even though they are initiated by others. So should we allow them to come or...?
Prabhupada: No.
Aksayananda Swami: No. That's what I thought. I wasn't sure about that.
Prabhupada: Why they want to join?
Aksayananda Swami: Because in their centers there's no, there doesn't seem to be so much transcendental activity like you have given us. They don't get that. And if they come and see us they see the devotees are dancing and happy and engaged. The conditions are clean and so on...
Prabhupada: So, you can try one or two. If you find that they're alright...
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. Doesn't matter.
Prabhupada: Yes. (pause) We can purchase some of those fields but where is the man? We can grow our own food. (slight pause) They have now learned from the Western countries to run! (jogger goes past) (laughs) And without caring for the field. Hm? Field working is very troublesome and this running is very easy.
Hari-sauri: Running out of breath. (pause) Meets some one on the road.
Prabhupada: Ha?
Man: (mumbling) ...Only Mayapur, eh, Caitanya Chandrodaya Mandir temple is ahh, undoubtedly, eh, ahh Hari.. ahh, eheh, ahh, (mumbles something more)
Prabhupada: Scientists say, is there any living entity in the sun globe?
Aksayananda Swami: No. They don't, they say there's nothing.
Prabhupada: Simply everything here?
Aksayananda Swami: Yes. That's what they say.
Prabhupada: And especially in Europe and America! (everyone laughs) Hare Krsna! They say there is nothing. They have gone there? They have seen?
Aksayananda Swami: Not very intelligent.
Prabhupada: Ha?
Aksayananda Swami: Not very intelligent... [break]
Jnana: ...nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen...
Prabhupada: So who, who put all this energy there? Where from nitrogen came?
Jnana: That they don't know.
Prabhupada: Therefore they are rascals. Therefore they are rascals. They do not know, something, and they are speaking on the subject matter. Is it not nonsense?
Harikesa: We know there's no life on the sun because we can look at a fire here and we see there's no life.
Prabhupada: But you are blind. You have no eyes to see.
Harikesa: Well we have our instruments and we look through...
Prabhupada: So what is the use of it? Anything made by rascal, is that perfect?
Harikesa: Well it's better than some mythological book!
Prabhupada: No, book also, you write book and you want to believe, others your book. That is also book. Why do you write scientific book?
Harikesa: Well they're proven, those other books...
Prabhupada: What is proven? You cannot say what is the chemical there, wherefrom came. Is that proof? "We cannot say." Is that proof?
Harikesa: Well we know how they interact. We may not know how they got here but we know what they do once they are here.
Prabhupada: No... Knowledge means to find out the source. That is knowledge. Where from it comes. There is a good example we studied in our childhood. A child was very intelligent so he was beating on a drum, so he was very much inquisitive, "Where from the sound is coming?" Then he cut the surface... (laughing) That is intelligence. Inquisitive... where from the sound is coming? Although it was childish but that is innate intelligence.
Hari-sauri: Scientists are trying to do that. They are taking...
Prabhupada: And that is alright. In future! (laughter)
Smarahari: The scientists say that the sun is made of certain elements and all the stars they are made of the same...
Prabhupada: Then why don't you make an imitation sun here? At night so that you may save so many expenses. So much expenses for electric. The rascal. If you know the chemicals then you make it. Ha? What do they say?
Smarahari: They say there are many suns... but...
Prabhupada: That's alright. Make you one sun, if you know! Many suns but you have not made anyone of them. You just try to make one, then I shall see your intelligence. Huh? What do you say? Anybody?
Aksayananda Swami: They cannot do.
Devotee (1) (woman): They don't have enough power.
Prabhupada: Huh? Then why do you say nonsense! If you have not enough power there must be somebody powerful than you -- you have to admit that -- who has made all these things. But you are rascal you have not... You are simply, ahh, what is called? Speculating. That in future we shall be powerful. But the powerful is already there. What is your credit? More powerful-) you cannot conceive even how powerful He a scientist. Huh? Is that alright? What is your value? The already powerful is there, who has manufactured these things. And you are expecting in future you'll be powerful; therefore you are more powerful. Just see their folly. If you are powerful then make it, another imitation sun.
Harikesa: (half joking) I'm seriously speaking, if we made another one the whole place would become too hot.
Prabhupada: Hah. So you are scientist, you protect yourself. (laughter)
Devotee (2): Scientists aren't very intelligent because today he big thing in the country politically is that whole world thinks they are running out of energy on one hand, and on the other hand the whole world believes that the scientists can solve all the problems and get to know the absolute truth but if they...
Prabhupada: They are creating problems.
Devotee (2): Yes, they're creating problems.
Prabhupada: (sounds of lots of birds in background) (stops) Birds and beasts, they're living without any scientists -- they're more happy.
Harikesa: But they're freezing in the cold and they're...
Prabhupada: No, no one is freezing. That is you are speaking but they are not freezing. Even int the coldest part of the country, Greenland, the animals are living quite nicely. The birds and many animals.
Hari-sauri: But if we preach like that to them, then they'll say 'then what's wrong with becoming an animal then'?
Prabhupada: Huh? But you are less than an animal. Talking nonsense. Put forward the problems, summarise janma-mrtyu-jar-vyadhi solve these problems.
Harikesa: Well we can solve the problem of birth by just killing all the children.
Prabhupada: (laughing) That is not solving, the birth is already there, therefore you are killing. (everyone laughing)
Aksayananda Swami: Birth is still there.
Prabhupada: No. Because there is birth therefore you are killing. So birth problem is not solved.
Harikesa: No, no, no. We're killing before birth.
Prabhupada: What is this before birth. The child is already there... mother's womb.
Prabhupada: Ah. That is you rascal you can say. Unless he has (sic) no life, how it is growing? Such a rascal...
Harikesa: It's a lump.
Prabhupada: ...they cannot understand. Does a dead child grow? Simply speaking nonsense!
Harikesa: That's their whole argument for abortion.
Prabhupada: That's alright but...
Harikesa: You just finished it! (laughing)
Prabhupada: ...but our point is, the birth problem is not solved. If there are unwanted population, you kill them that does not mean the population problem is solved.
Hari-sauri: They're not actually seeing the actual causes of the problems.
Prabhupada: Hm?
Hari-sauri: They're not actually seeing the causes of the problems so they're trying to adjust to them.
Prabhupada: What is that?
Hari-sauri: They're simply trying to make so many adjustments to the problems but they are not solving the cause.
Prabhupada: Yes. That adjustment is not solution.
Aksayananda Swami: You said once, putting the weight from your head to your shoulder.
Prabhupada: Ha?
Aksayananda Swami: You are carrying a heavy weight I remember you said once. You're carrying heavy weight here, to take the pain you put it here. Then again back here. But still the weight is there.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Harikesa: The scientists came up with another one for enjoyment. That they cut this little cord that makes the sperm come into the semen and in this way they can have sex life like anything and they're actually not killing. (Man shouts greeting in background)
Prabhupada: Hare Krsna. Jai! Jaya. Semen, what is that?
Harikesa: Well they say anyway, that... into the semen so they cut this little cord, that tube or something, that has the semen go into the sperm, so the sperm never gets into the semen. So therefore they can have sex life but they'll be no reproduction.
Prabhupada: So one may check, two may check, what about millions? Supposing they can check in that way, it may be possible for one or two, or a dozen, but what about millions and millions? Nature's way.
Harikesa: That's if they, they're doing this in...
Prabhupada: In future. That will solve in future.
Harikesa: They were giving prizes to people who are doing this.
Prabhupada: Yes.
Harikesa: Like TV sets.
Prabhupada: Mutual 'present' society. (everyone laughing) (front bell of temple ringing as Prabhupada enters grounds) Hiranyakasipu civilization, and we are presenting Prahlada civilization. So this is a struggle, but ultimately Prahlada will come out triumphant. Hare Krsna (to bystander) and Hiranyakasipu will be killed. Jaya! (Walks into temple) (end)
